Terry Hearn vids for E.S.P, the Sticky Baits 'reflections' series, and the Thinking Anglers 'Insights' series are probably the best ones available.
You literally have months of decent viewing to look forward to, whereas these days I'm scratching around for decent content!

Funny how time flies because I used to read this young man's stuff in the Angling times which I found quite captivating at the time, and I have since followed his angling and captures throughout my life. Now he is grey all of a sudden lol and still catching stunning carp after carp after carp. Incredible really, what an angler, one of the best, real deal, no flash in the pan here

I felt that whilst watching this, it was great but just kept thinking if I wasn't watching it I'd be enjoying the next book more. A self imposed 10 year Terry Hearn media ban will be difficult though.

I particularly liked the bit at the end where he said that all the syndicate members had been catching and were happy and that's what you want.

Maybe that will now be the carpy look of next spring, fleece waistcoat (fleece must be on the outside) and brimmer hat, far better than the chunky knit, not good when wet. Could be a bit of tweed, tea ceremony and cake in greaseproof paper soon, AKA the Chris Yates look. Got to be an aging thing

Still use my oval for 99% its over 30 years old now bought a brand new one 15 years ago still unwrapped ! I must watch one of these.

It shows how angling is done. Not just an advert or self promotion with awful drum and base music. That black mirror was unreal.

I watched Tels vid, You Tube popped up a Thimking Anglers Gaz Farem vid as a next up.
Chalk and cheese, Gaz came across as desperate, must catch and a poorer story teller, washed out not a par on Tel.

I watched it last night in the bath. First one I've watched for a good few years. Great watch. He looks well.

met him quite a few times many years ago when he was chasing carp in oxon
and he always had time for a quick chat on his laps around the lake
it was never that hard to find them when it was quiet but catching them was a different ball game all together and thats what separates Terry from the rest of us he always got his target fish and rest of well ..we carried on dreaming about catching them

TH & ESP are probably the most watchable film's out the ,I just wish they'd go back to there Xmas releases dates when it's cold and over the Xmas period they always inspired me for the new year, suppose I could save them but there too good not to watch straight away........

Fantastic film but one that again leaves you scratching your head wondering how he does it 
Found a swim that looked good on Google maps, plotted up in that swim, Swan off to take some photos of butterflies and finches, flick the clipped up rods out just before dark, somehow present bottom baits amongst drifting bits of weed, catch a few in the morning. Simple as that

Exactly that, time is the biggest asset in carp fishing but you still have to catch them, and he does consistently, the majority do not and that is the difference

Sacks are better for the fish if used correctly. Fish can find their own level, rather than bobbing around on the surface.

I'm pleased to hear that he still uses sacks and mats.
Some people would make you believe that if you don't use retaining slings and cradles that you are irresponsible.

I like the fact he doesn't release films every other week,one thing I think sets him apart is he seems to be tuned in to all things nature and his surroundings.

You are quite right. I have seen others copy this and cringe.
Unless it's an exceptionally deep and soft mat, and the carp isn't excessively gutty, then it really shouldn't be done.
There is no need for it, and only serves the purpose of adding some "drama" to his films!

It's great that carp care has come on leaps and bounds, but we used to put fish down on a bit of grass (if they were lucky!) and they did ok. Carp are a very hardy species.....

Off course he is not unchallengeable, yes what you post is correct , in my opinion there are many anglers around the globe that are better then him , they just do not have the big name and probably don't want it.

Two points to note imo, he questioned where the royal 40 originated from....really? An old mate moved a few fish into the ponds when barn elms was lost to angling, and secondly, he mentioned having a 'bird'...

If you've read his book then it doesn't hit the same. If you haven't then I can imagine it's much better hearing it. Saying that it's still great and you can't beat a Tel Xmas tale!

It only took him a short while to catch it. So not much of a story to tell. But Tel could make reading the phone book sound captivating...

Quite enjoyed Tels offering after putting it on for a second time. I turned it off after the 1st few minutes 1st time round as thought it was a recent recollection.
Stickies film, good God, Nick said he didn't put content out for the sake of it! If you like the sound of his voice continually its fine, if you like a truthful film of fishing being hard abroad at times, its fine, if you've never done that sort of fishing you can gleem a few tips but otherwise the ffw button is your friend.

Halfway through the film and I thought that there must be a part two coming out at a later time. Then basically the whole film was regurgitated after he moved swims. I suppose the problem in taking a camera man out there and the level of investment is that the film is going to be released however turgid it is. I still watched it but could've done without the tales of what hard work it is, etc..

They are all victims of the format. Hearn is becoming way too cheezy, didn't even bother, and no, i don't know what you mean. Helleur, normally i kinda like him, but what the hell was this? Booking a swim on lac du durrrrrr, idk, 10 mins and i was gone.
Thoroughly enjoyed jim lightfoot again. Shaz was a staaaaar again, setting up the tent, pumping up the boat, running around with her kettlebell, absolute staaaarrr. Also a shoot out to a dutch vlogger, ferenc fishing. He was out on some dutch inland sea, and yeah it was cold, nothing happening, **** it, i'm staying in my bivvy, what am i doing here etc. I mean, those guys don't feel the need to pretend it's all so special, being a carp angling star and all that, just showing what they are doing. And having said that, hearn and helleur aren't the worst by far, they seem to love their fishing intrinsically, but yeah, the format, if you know what i mean:P

I think Jim has the best content out there, always smiling, always makes me laugh and conveys a joy of fishing that many don't... no ramming it down your throat about how hard it all is or how 'you have to make it happen'... Proper fishing, engaging guy and no marketing.

Didn't bother with the TH film. I've read the book and still have the earlier edition of BC when he writes an article about it. Summer in the City i think I called.

Watch them each year but can't help but notice this year was slightly different. I think TH is happy to step out of the limelight and would go as far as saying that he is falling out of love of the game.
The goalposts have changed since covid for all the full time brigade that use to have lakes to themselves from Sunday afternoon to Friday morning whilst everyone else would be at work. Nowadays, midweek on some waters can be just as busy as weekends and getting tickets for the decent waters are now a complete closed shop.
Still a good watch though and nice to reminisce how it used to be.

Tbh it's nice see that Tel isn't jumping on the bandwagon trying to stay relevant. These kind of videos have a very limited audience in carp fishing. I certainly used to be that audience, but I'm a bit bored of hearing the same stories retold. I don't think it will be long before he dissappear from the limelight all together.

There's probably a lot of fishing he can't film or is taking a long while to put something together. Or he just doesn't want to release yet. He isn't the one to be constantly churning out vlog type videos. We get something special every few years and in between some old stories of times gone by which we've all read in his books keeps things ticking. That list will be exhausted soon I can imagine but there's probably a few undocumented ones there too.

To be fair it was not as good as his usual stuff but I still found it more watchable than 90% of other stuff out there

Falling out of love with game?... not to sure about that... Finding the type of waters and fish he likes to fish for is no doubt getting harder and harder to find. He did mention in the vid he done for Sticky baits that he's finding more and more pleasure in photographing the wildlife around him these days. Maybe that's an avenue he will venture of into someday. Until then he probably finds as much pleasure watching a bobber float moving downstream on the Thames for perch as he does for his carp fishing. Long live Tel and his love for the Angle..

TH strength of appeal is that he doesnt need to stay relevant. Not dissimilar to the likes of Chris Yates. Rod Hutchinson (rip) etc .... The further removed from the public they become the greater their legacy and iconic status (in angling) will be. TH will be one of the last of his type. No-one post early 2000s will have that type of credability.

I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Terry for being Terry and Nick for being Nick. Both providing massive bowls of carp fishing soul food in their own way with little or no advertising.

I've seen him using them on his Thames vids with ESP.. I suppose when you've used basically the same tackle for 30yrs it's hard to change..

I can't remember ever watching a TH film that I haven't enjoyed. I hope he's as nice a guy as he comes across.

Pretty normal with the full timer crowd. Some are diamonds (like Terry), some are absolute wastes of space. Terry has always been able to stand on his own two feet because of who he is.

I will share a funny story regarding those SS300 reels. It made me chuckle at the time anyway. When I was with Shimano, Terry was there at the exact same time pretty much in 2013, moving from ESP for bigger money. It was for a big pay rise. The bloke who was running the Shimano UK show at the time rang me one day in an absolute blind panic to see if I could talk to him. He was at a video shoot with Terry. Shimano had paid for a team of cameramen, the whole nine yards. Terry was refusing to put Shimano reels on for the big time promo video. He wanted to use his SS3000's.
Terry was telling this bloke that it would not look right, as his fans knew him for those Daiwa reels. This poor bloke was so stressed. In a panic. He was telling me that his Japanese bosses were never going to listen to this, or allow Daiwa reels in their video. This bloke was convinced that he was getting the sack. At the time, I'd only met Terry very briefly on the Thames, nothing I could do or say & I told this bloke exactly that.
Don't know how it all got resolved that day... But I do know Terry was back at ESP just weeks later.

I was surprised when he left ESP. Because he started using ACE terminal tackle which were bought out by Shimano I believe.

If I remember correctly Terry's move away from ESP was caused by Dynamite Baits being bought by Rapala who was partly owned by Shimano back then. They also wanted to promote the Ace brand. To my understanding Terry had to choose between his deals with Dynamite and ESP.

I do love the way you guys can romanticise anything whatsoever in carp fishing when it's people that you admire. He was offered a lot more money to go to Shimano. ACE were owned by Shimano. He was already Dynamite. It sort of brought it all together. If you do the maths, it then adds up as to why he then later left Dynamite, I guess when his contract ran out with them.
It may well have just been malicious chat because it was people from Shimano who said it at the time, but he went back to ESP for less than he was on before at first, so they said anyway. Mr Drennan is a business man & clearly nobody's fool. Anyone would likely do exactly the same if your star player left you for someone else, then wanted to come back. But don't let any of that spoil any romantic views you can imagine on the situation.
When you guys work somewhere, if someone comes along and offers you, let's say 2.5 times your yearly wage, you are moving to a new job. End of. There's nothing romantic about that, it's the facts of life. I get the impression that Terry loves the arm around his shoulder that ESP provide for him. They are a great match. He realised that the moment that he left would be my guess. He provides you lot with great content via them since he went back too. Not really the case before that so much.
