Ideally you'd want a car charger that has a trickle charge on it as most car chargers bang a lot of amp's in really quickly, you could get away with it but monitor them really closely you could hear them starting to bubble and get warm then I would stop. Have you access to a multi meter if so you could check your original charger to see what it's doing are the batteries showing any signs of getting warm after the 24hrs it could just be that the LED isn't (via the internal circuit) switching

My Attx receiver did the same, I cleaned it off with meths to cure it and it hasn't happened again a few years afterwards

I do sadly, I think it was part of what the BBC showed us kids in the early 70s on a Saturday morning no wonder I started fishing, looks like I'm showing my age too 🥲

I'm probably going to get some hate here but hay ho, in my opinion a helicopter rig is the safest rig as long as you don't drop the lead , I find the word heli safe is a massive contradiction, those who disagree try and shake the hook link free without a lead , if you need to drop a lead use a lead clip.

Have you ever considered just leaving them on permanently and either getting a quiver system or a holdall with reel pouches built in , my reels haven't been removed in years on any of my set ups so much easier, otherwise a tiny dap of oil will cure the problem
