Different era now, loads of quality tackle options, when i started out in the 80s tackle options were thin on the ground, as were shops and suppliers specific of carp fishing equipement, a lot of the gear was often cobbled together from other pastimes. Nash, as mentioned and Fox have been pioneers over the years for me, series 2 hooks rocked. JRC beds and chairs and Gardner to name but a few. Gardner spods were the first tried, bolile one with the brass ring used to burry well in the silt and the particle one used to tail walk well and dispatch the load out of the back a lot of the times, plugging with groundbait lol. Enter Korda who are one of the more modern pioneers, the Skyliner spod at the time was an absolute game changer, which again is now history compared to a Spomb, as were their original wide gapes for me before they upped the wire gauge but this will be in tune with 3.5lb pokers π
Nash and Aqua shelters are iconic, as the fox evo once brollys went out of favour. Remember turning up to a famous northern water with my Hi-top, driving down the road it was, Armadillo, Titan, Amadillio, Titan nearly all the way around π

Got some scope ops retractable in 10 foot and really like them. If i was fishing a water at range i would use my 12 foot rods every time

0.38 mono straight through is no good for distance with with bags. You are lobbing, not casting otherwise you would be cracking off all the time. You need to try the tapered leader first, the torrix have some serious power in the butt, if anything I would say the tip is too soft to get the range you want. High quality carbon rods are built to take it, try the leader first and watch some casting videos, if you believe the rod is not enough, I would then look at an upgrade.

If you are not using a shock leader i cannot see any point upgrading. 0.38mm mono could easily be parted with a proper cast. Looking at the weight you are using and the bag i reckon you are doing more of a lob than a cast. I reckon if you were to give it more you could easily crack off and in such cases you then need a shock leader. If you are convinced you want a different rod, again, without shock leaders, i would look for something like a 3.5 test with more of a through action, the Torrix are very tippy in my experience, i had two sets and did not like them, to me they felt unbalanced. Powerful butt section and a soft tip action.
