Obviously not that much of a chore you had a gun and rolling table , I started making bait in 1979 every bait rolled by hand now that was chore, took all evening to roll a couple of 1 lb mixes

There’s a 50lb common in there, it’s getting a little tatty now but still a great fish.
Otters are a regular visitor and obviously you have the public walking round, so it’s not the nicest place to fish.

I found it was the braid as when tied to my boat they wouldn’t dive on that either but without the braid they would

Carpers essentials elite hooks, vanadium steel so very tough, very sharp out of the packet and don’t turn over easily as vanadium steel is very hard.
Quite a few patterns to choose from and very competitively priced, I’ve been using them for several years now.

It’s the line they are scared of
Use floating yellow braid on your spomb and they’ll never dive near it

As others said its there if you are lucky and look hard enough.
I just stumbled back across a small lake that I fished for Perch 50 years ago, I recently discovered it was secretly stocked with carp 30 years ago. Some of these fish are now mid 30’s but are rarely fished for as very few members and majority don’t fish for the carp.
My other two syndicates are very well run, one of them is hardly any different to fishing Waveney Valley back in the early 80’s, the other is large low stock private parkland lake where you rarely see more than 3 or 4 other anglers, even though the fish go to upper 40.
Both waters don’t allow bait boats which helps.
Guess I’m lucky
