I thought all of the range were >£350?
I couldn't spend that on a new rod from an untested brand in that area (although acknowledge Guru make decent rods). I'd be worried whether there are going to be spares available in a few years? Will they actually be any good? Etc.
They are in the same price bracket as Harrison's, Century and top end FreeSpirit but without any of the experience and reputation associated with these brands.
Also, despite getting rave reviews on social media, I think the advert for them is utter crap. Puts me off the rods tbh as it all seems a bit naff and tacky.

Look crap & cost too much, so will be very popular with the sheep. Wouldn't give Fairbrass the time of day, so certainly wouldn't give him over a grand for a set of rods. Especially ones that will be as stiff as a scaffolding pole.

Agree with you on the advert. With their following all that effort is a waste. It won't sell them any more rods. They could have just stuck a picture up of the butt cap and it would have had the same response of “all hail korda”.
Be interesting to see actual reviews of the rods once people get them. Can imagine Danny and co have been very selective over them but who knows.

There was a thread on it a couple of months ago; I found out that Ka'izen is a brand based in Japan. I don't know if they are big enough to be blank manufacturers themselves although they do do rods under their own name.

I think the Burt Kwouk advert will put a few off.
The blanks look very thick, I assume they will be fantastic, because as a aesthetics point of view i thought everyone wanted thin blanks?. I've no doubt they will be great, and sell tonnes though.

Lead dropping ,this practice will come back and bite us all..
I well remember Dot Beeson or Beeston, and her campaign against lead shot years ago..and that didn't end well..
So yes ,Korda to some people have done the Embryo.,lutra protects thing .however the lead dropping has nullified that ,sadly....
So I take a little issue that they have done a lot for carp fishing and the corporate ,monetary machine it now has become..
As for the rods, they will sell lots and lots..

They did do the underwater stuff first. Think that opened a lot of eyes. That first one on horseshoe probably triggered so much in the industry let alone for the individual angler, on the basis that it showed that your rigs aren't as efficient as you think and you need to do more.
Don't see any other companies setting up a not for profit to help with predation either. Albeit not as actively helping others as they were initially.
Disclaimer before I'm branded a fan boy: I don't rate anything korda, think I only own a 18 year old rig box and a krusha which rarely gets used.

Danny Barearse didn't tour Essex lakes flogging leads for his health, he did it for money, everything they do they do for money, when you have enough only then can you give a bit back..........its a great tax break.

Korda have done more for Carp Fishing in the sense that they have helped increase user participation, which in turn drives up prices and greed. Every time you cannot get on a water, waiting lists are 5+ years, or you're paying more than double what a 24hr ticket costed 20 years ago, you have the glorified salesmen to thank for that. Korda are not solely to blame though.
There's also the little known fact he tried to financially destroy someone for drug use accusations then finally admitted himself he uses/used cocaine.

They'll sell loads. Any successful company will generate lots of haters, that's just how life is.
What always confuses me more is why people care so much to spend their time trolling and posting about how crap said company is. It's the same with Ali Hamidi, certain people commenting on virtually all his social media posts slagging off his products. Why would it bother someone so much that they actually waste part of their lives getting wound up about someone trying to make a living?

I'm not going to be getting there new rods or new landing net
I can't bring myself to spend £250 on a landing net. I use a ngt net 42inch
Think it was £35 dose what I need it to. I don't drive a super car .I drive a Ford
It dose the job . I'd like a super car ..but can't afford one .
I think korda have done loads and created a massive brand and fair play to them
Just like any other company there not doing it for free .
Korda are doing loads to invest in the future of fishing.
An I think good on them

I'll be honest I don't see the problem with expensive rods IF they are worth it problem I see here is they are going into the bracket of century, Harrison and free spirit at that price I no I'd most likely have any of them first for now, that's the most important thing “for now” they might end up being brilliant and most people love them only time will tell.
A friend on my syndicate has ordered some so I'm sure I'll see what they are like soon enough, I've ordered some custom aviators which are what I've wanted for a very long time so doubt I'll end up buying any but you never no

Kaizen is the Japanese for Improvement and usually refers to continuous improvement in manufacturing... They got the name from this i have been told.
I've had a few casts with the top end distance version of the rods and it was a absolute tool for casting that's for sure felt ok, but obviously no chance it play a fish so cant see it the sacrifice in action is worth the ease of distance.
For me as soon as i saw fuji reel seats i was out (not that i needed any rods)- a top end rod should have better imo

The best thing I ever did was to try my hardest to buy things from companies that specialise in making whatever it was I was interested in buying. The old phrase "jack of old trades, master of none" is perfectly suited for a lot of these tackle companies. You can buy custom made fishing rods to your requirements for cheaper than these.

Im not the biggest fan of Korda one way or other but they did drag carp fishing out of the dark ages in terms of marketing/retailing. You only have to see how the likes of Nash/Fox etc have followed them in this respect. They were/are very much a right time and right place company when they started and have gone strength to strength.
I dont like their chavvy/shouty marketing strategy personally but fair play to them all on their success. Ive listened to a few of their podcasts when they have had the likes of Fairbrass, Spooner, Dovey, Damo as guests and they all come across pretty likeable to me.
Would i buy these Korda rods? .... Absolutely not!! ... , but not because of price ... but because im not that big enough fan of the brand. Plenty of people ARE big fans though and Im sure will happily part with the money needed to buy them. If ESP bring out some Alcolytes in carp rod form at top end money then I would definitely consider buying them ... regardless of the custom made rods options available from anyone else.

In one of the gigantica videos, Tom stokes snapped one of these rods on the cast, I'm surprised they included it in the episode to be fair, and I've seen frank warwick years ago blow up a few free spirits during testing so I know it can happen and I'm not knocking Korda as I do have some of there end tackle in my tackle box, but as for hardware I wouldn't buy one of them tank aerial rods let alone a full set, with the test curves stated and the big ringing set and obviously the price, they just sound over gunned to me, I would love to compare one to one of my Kev baines snipers (£260 per rod when I bought mine) just to see how much more rod I would get from Korda for the extra money

I'm supposed at how low the fishing distances they quoted for each rod were. I'm sure he suggested the 12ft 4lb rod for fishing up to 130 yards? I get there is a difference between a bare lead and a rig, and max distance and effective fishing range etc. But would you really want a pokey 4lb test curve for fishing 130?
Maybe I've missed it, but why haven't we seen Terry or even Darrell put a rig 200 with one of these yet?

When it came to getting Korda leads in Tackle shops, Danny Fairbrass got off his backside and did it himself, visiting goodness knows how many shops in the south of the country.
I know it was the reason the shop I was working in took on Korda leads and the first products, seeing things first hand and a decent work ethic.
However the advertorial and Ali Hamidi marketing put me off.
Still, it's a rare tackle shop that now doesn't have Korda leads, lead clips etc, although there are a few.
It is difficult coming into a market with a new product on a 'flooded' range, some brands manage it successfully, others struggle. Look at Solar bedchairs and bivvies, successful, with mixed price points. Economy, budget and top range.
I have a feeling Kaizen rods may get the Korda followers but struggle after, there are many top range price point rods from various other brands; Daiwa, Century, Harrison, Fox, Greys, ESP and others with a more solid rod heritage.

These rods look proper cheap and cheerful to me, no way they justify the price, they have a nasty reel seat for starters.
Side by side with a £60 Fox Horizon I think it was you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference apart from a few cosmetics.
Not even a whipped on line clip.
I didn't like them at all. Sorry lol

to be fair ... Korda know their market and I dont think these are targetted at the "serious" angler. The reality is, the target purchaser who would buy a Korda rod .... aesthetics would be very high up ... perhaps only second to the brand name (Brand name is everything!) .... many wouldnt know the difference or benefits of the quality of different fittings but would happily pay the premium for the brand name.

Clearly I've learnt nothing in my over half a century of fishing then.
Obviously they'll have their fans and yes, most of my rods have Fuji seats, I don't own any with blingy chrome so knock the sarcastic piss taking on the head, you have no idea on what floats my boat on a personal level.
And yes, what's wrong with having a rod that ls aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well as being functional, it's not exactly hard to achieve or indeed add a line clip for a couple of quid!! I'm confident that there'd be a lot of custom rod builders
out of business if that wasn't a requirement.
Personally, I'd rather spend my money on a custom built Harrison but you guys who like them are welcome to your opinion as I am mine. All I'm seeing is a naked emperor which will no doubt be marketed very well. .
Out of interest, what's the blank then? Apologies if I've missed this bit of information?
Made in China or elsewhere?
Sea Guide rings £20
Fuji seat £5
Shrink tube £5
Probably knocked up for less than £100 and outed for £400 odd. Righto.
There's a reason why these big tackle companies can lash out gazzilions of pounds on consultants, marketing and their owners are millionaires., it's cause we're getting mugged off.
I'm not a Korda basher, I've plenty of odds and sods from them, it's just I can't see the value in these but hey, it's your money, crack on and enjoy 😉

Not many on here who know about rod blanks and rods do like them . If you look at earlier posts i have stated the guides are crap i can get a set for less than you stated. For 95% of my builds and 100% of my fishing i only use Harrison blanks so that tells you what i also think about them. I would though have a fuji reel seat above any other.Like i said earlier the korda rods make excellent runner bean supports.

I've learnt that the forum seems to be full of patronising experts these days who's petty and unfunny attempts to belittle anything they disagree with is getting boring very quickly now.
Anything Korda/Nash/Bait orientated seems to end up like this.
As for an alternative reel seat, well, I don't have to choose one. Firstly, I wasn't the person value engineering this rod to extract every last penny profit from it, and secondly, I wouldn't spend £400 on a mass produced product that I don't like the look of, same as I wouldn't but a Tesla car, they might be the greatest electric vehicle ever produced but they look *****, to me.
FWIW, I've an Andrew Davis Carpathia and you could buy 4 of those Korda broom handles for the cost of one of these, but I know which one I'll still be lusting after and still using in 10 years and which ones will be on ebay for peanuts.
One is an S Class Mercedes and the other is a Kia

Not sure how you've reached that conclusion?
I wouldn't have ruled myself out of buying a Korda rod if it ticked the boxes it need to tick when and if I was in the market for a certain type of rod, this one doesn't tick any of those boxes, the next incarnation might though.....actually, no, it probably won't.

If you're buying a product say from China work it backwards, take off VAT, duty, transport costs, profit for manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer.
If Korum or others can retail a pretty decent rod for £50 then they're knocking them out in China for less than a tenner. You're not getting them for a tenner unless you buy a container load of gear though and have all the associated hassle and the gamble that you're not actually buying from Chen-Yang tackle company but Mrs Wongs knitting shop, trust me, half of them are crooks. I speak from experience.

Some kind of connection with Daiwa would be understandable given DF's previous dealings, so this would be an entirely believable rumour and would probably keep a lot of punters happy (Ish).
By the same token, they're hardly likely to tell you if they're being knocked up in a back street sweatshop lol.

I can't see how you can say they don't justify the price when all you've done is have a look at one.
Isn't the best test of a product in its actual use?
For all you know they could be the best casting rods available with a playing action to die for...
The new Fox X6 Ti rods are actually more expensive than these but literally don't get a mention because Korda have sent a “disrupter” into the market... absolute genius strategy.

Fuji Reel seats for me as well.
The ALPS seats felt horrible when I played with rods with them on, and I have heard of a few horror stories where the fixed non give of the seat caused the blank to break on the top of the seat.

It's certainly no myth, I've had the conversation with many rod builders and distance casters over the years when a few of my rods broke in identical places on big casts with Alps fitted. On a distance casting rod stay away from alps.

Have a look at the small print on Mark Tunley's website. He won't guarantee rods with Alps reel seats against breakages at the seat, nor against the seats coming loose. There's a reason for that clearly.

the same with his kjb rod pods in the 90s

I spent hours talking with Kev over a few years .It was him that told and taught me how to get the best out of the gem of a blank torrix 2.25 . Kev probably knew more than anyone ive ever known re rod building guide spacing and getting the best out of a blank. Alot of people did,nt get on with kev as like myself he had no time for 50ml hoops etc on a fishing rod. Dave lumb has the same outlook both only built/ build on harrison blanks also. I once saw Kev put a bucket 120yds away get down on one knee and put a two ounce lead straight in it first cast .

Ah the 2.25 torrix (baby sniper), unbelievable blank
yeah Kev was pretty no nonsense and like you say ruffled a few feathers with other builders as he just didn't agree with big ringing on a rod, yes I've also been in the back field and witnessed his casting, the smaller ringing definitely makes for more accuracy, that was the thing with Kev he would explain his theories and then prove them to you, very knowledgeable bloke

Because fashion can dictate what is used.
There is no need for a 50mm butt ring on most carp rods, yet that has become fashion for most companies.

Cheaper to mass produce as well, less rings and less whipping.
Lol
Tbh I've spoke to a few rod builders recently and I asked about the alps seats causing breakages I was informed by the tackle box and a couple others that the problem seat is the alps waveform seat on long range rods BUT they are fine on short to mid range rods, I really really like the waveform seats and have them on almost all my rods apart from my s lites seeing they are off the shelf builds.
Apparently all other alps seats are fine 🤷♂️ I still ordered my new rods with alps waveform seats lol
I'll back brads up here though I've never had a problem with one upto now, I don't really like Fuji seats either just always feel like they constantly undo and have to re tighten them up all the time

This gives you an idea of how the costs breakdown.
It's an old article now, and it refers to fly rods (where the top end is several times more expensive than a carp rod) but hopefully it shows how cheap the blank can be and how much gets added on by intermediaries.

Believe I posted this years ago and while material costs have risen especially the high Tec resins I doubt many carp rod blanks have more £30 in materials. The link below also talks of far east manufacture but high end rods like sage, Scott ,Winston etc are all hand made in America.

Just had a look at them in the local tackle shop. They're very light but they look like spod rods - really chunky blank. It's obvious what they're doing with them; minimal, understated looks to appeal to a specific customer base. If it were me, with that much to drop on a rod, it wouldn't be on these.
What's the 3lb TC one like?

Thin blanks area fashion thing - look at beach rods, all thick blanks but thin walls and lightweight. They get more hammering than a carp rod does.

The likes of Harrison, century ect have also put in thousands of man hours designing and developing the tapers, testing new carbon clothe and resins ,building a knowledge database to achieve the product they want then of course someone looking for a quick return takes a rod to China and it's scanned and measured and reproduced at a fraction of the cost. Having said that I believe many businesses are are now move out of China due to rising costs and looking to cheaper places to manufacture.

The problem with Alps comes on distance casting blanks which usually have a larger diameter but section this makes total sense too if you think about it logically.
The blank is built up with tape so for example if you have say a thin 3.25lb 12ft rod and you require 2/3mm of tape to make the 18mm diameter seat fit snug thats a 2/3mm void the blank can flex in. If you get a 13ft 3.75lb rod and maybe you got 0.5mm of tape thats not alot of space for the butt section to flex inside a 6 inch long rigid Aluminium seat that doesnt want to bend
I have had this conversation with a few rod builders and one tournament caster and he knows of a few century rods that have blew just infront of the alps seats which makes sense. But most people who have alps with these powerful rods will never compress a rod to a large enough extent for it to become a problem anyway.

I dont really like alps seats but have them on my century 2.5 graphenes and they are also on my century graphene spod rod which is a quite thick out and out casting rod and thats had some proper abuse but there all still going strong with no breakages. Im pretty sure my spod rod would of broke by now if there was a problem with the alps seat.

Off topic, but it's a bit more than a buzzword of the past few years. History of Kaizen goes back to the 50s in Japan. It then became widespread in the US in the late 80s. It is part of the Lean Six Sigma methodology which for 20 years plus has been the cornerstone of process improvement.
Are we all awake at the back?

A friend showed me the new Korda landing net yesterday. Looked very impressive to me. Reverse taper carbon handle, similar to my CB. Very light. I was really impressed. Expensive, but then quality always is.
How would it not be good? It's designed by Damian Clarke. He's always been a great angler. He may not want to appear on the TV. There might not be anglers queuing up for an hour at carp shows for his signature. But he's always been the real heartbeat at Korda IMO. I've spoken about it many times on here recently... Perception... And reality. Massive things in carp fishing. For so many carp anglers, the public face is the hero. That is only natural.
I've seen it said so many times since Ali & Korda separated, that Korda would go downhill because of it. Pure silliness that is. I am sure Ali will do really well with his new business. He's always been great for marketing carp fishing.
I bet Korda sell tonnes of those nets.

It's as good as the dymag mk3 I own,I have compared them side by side. The korda is just as light and as rigid but it is easier get in and out of the spreader block

I slated it when i saw it at first Tony but after seeing one ive just bought one now i know they are bringing out a shallow net for it as the mesh it comes with is way to deep for me. Still dont like the loo of the kaizen rods mind.

Not sure it hasnt arrived yet. I presume it floats due to more air being inside the pole due to it being quite thick but i could be wrong.

I think that is fairly new model from diawa
I had a look at these earlier today in Johnson Ross.
My thoughts, very very lightweight blanks that remind me of the Daiwa Infinity Blanks, they feel very "Crisp" in the hand, obviously cannot tell what they're like from a minute in a tackle shop but I'd imagine they are a good fit if you're fishing big, snaggy pits, they don't feel like the sort of rods you'd want to be using down your local day ticket lake.
In terms of the finish, very underwhelming in looks, Matt Black finish with Gloss Black whippings, build quality looked good but they definitely do not look anything special.
The Landing net though did look very nice, I've got a Dymag Mk2 and a Mk3 so know what a good net feels like, this did feel like a quality bit of kit, again very lightweight and did feel rigid in the shop.
Not 100% sure on the styling of the Spreader Block personally, it is quite large, and the Mesh is too deep for me, will be interesting to see if the start supplying it with the shallow mesh instead at a later date!

If they fitted shallow mesh then people would be wanting deeper mesh
.The deep mesh is ideal for retaining fish whilst sort mat and scales out,on other nets I pop the mesh through the arms,it just slides out as you net the fish

Had a good play with these at the weekend , was pleasantly surprised with the 12ft 4lb tc not a stiff as you'd think , hit good distance yet still had a soft tip ,then had a go with the 12ft 6 4lb tc this is a brute and felt like a out and out distance rod can imagine in the right hands you could chuck it miles .All rods super light they will sell loads of these .

Mesh is way to deep for me Tony. It kind of defeats the object of making the pole and block so light then putting a 5 foot deep mesh on which will weigh a ton when wet and be harder to move through the water.

4lb Tc really, what the hell are they being made for “Great White Shark fishing!”
I can see these being banned very quickly by fishery owners when they notice their stocks lips are being ripped clean off!

4lb TC = 4lb of weight to bend the rod to 90 degree angle
2lb Tc = 2lb of weight to bend the rod to 90 degree angle
simple physics = double the stored energy, which in the wrong hands equals a disaster.

Its not reallly a spike, its more of a dome so will take some pushing in i would imagine if you do use like that.

It's about levers ,the force on a stiff rod is applied to you on a stiff rod so in essence you feel the force and pressure , the same force on a through action rod is applied more to the other end , this is why boat rods are shorter in length if they were long and fast taper they would flip you out of a boat .-Lee Jackson showed a video years ago and more pressure was applied on a through action rod when tied to scales .

Length of a Rod, Action of a Rod, materials it's made of, number of sections is all utterly Irrelevant-
Example: take a 3 1/2tc 8ft Rod and a 3 1/2tc 13ft Rod, both will bend to exactly 90 degrees when a weight of 3 1/2Lb is applied to the Rod.
How the Rod bends and were the Rod bends depends on the design/make up of the Rod, but both will store exactly 3 1/2lbs of stored energy when positioned at 90 degree's

Spot on.
The angler will have to exert more pressure to bend the longer rod to the 3.5lb test curve on the longer rod.
BUT... the mate on the other end "holding the line" will be more easily able to pull the tip over on the longer rod.
Again, simple physics.
This is why these short but beefy rods are a horrible fish playing option and could end up doing more mouth damage if there is a sudden lunge from a fish.

Yes , but a shorter lever will exert more pressure. If you have to pull for a break, what do you do? Point the rod directly at the lead thus reducing the rods effective length to zero.

No they won't, if both Rods are 3 1/2 tc (as that was the test curve specification they was built too) when both are bent to 90 degrees are exactly the same, that's the bench mark for fishing Rods, the standard measure it does not vary.
I think what you mean is - it's more user friendly to have a 13ft Rod bent to 90 degrees than it is to have a 8ft long Rod of the same Tc in your hands being bent to 90 degrees

Longer rod fast taper when bent 90deg will exert more pressure on you , than a through action rod ,both could have the same tc and length but as a rod bends more the pressure is applied at the other end .Don't think anyone could apply 4lb of pressure on a fast taper rod where it would feel more comfortable on a through action rod Hope that makes sense .

That's not how it works though. That "stored" energy is exactly that. Your putting your energy into bending the blank, rather than pulling the line. The reason you can put way more pressure on if you just point the directly at the lead so it doesn't bend at all.
A soft rod will be 90 degrees a lot quicker than a stiff rod will be. When it's 90 degrees, the rod is shorter, so it's way easier to put more pressure on. The same principal as holding a heavy weight out full arm length is a lot harder than holding it close to your body.

As far as I know there is also no standard for clamping the rod when measuring test curve..some are clamped at the reel..some are sat in a butt cap, so 1 3.5lb rod could be completely different to another..
The test curve of a rod is nothing more than the minimum load required to bend it through 90 degrees, with the Rod positioned horizontally.
That's taken from a well known Blank manufacturing company.
It really is that simple.

"Another problem is that there is no standard way of clamping the handle during measurement, and small position changes at the handle can make big differences at the tip. Put simply, the whole concept of measuring test curve is flawed"...that's from Harrisons website!

Just goes to show its a useless number. You could put a quivertip on the end of a broom stick and call it a 0.25lb test curve.

Keith,
2 rods, both 12ft 3.25 TC.
Rod A - through action = this rod is roughly 8ft long when the tip is 90 degrees to the butt
Rod B - fast action = this rod is 10ft long when the tip is at 90 degrees to the butt
this means that with Rod A, you can exert a LOT more force on the line than Rod B. Ttry it.
Fast action rods cast a relatively small weight (compared to a fish) longer because the arc of the lead is bigger because the rod is 'longer' in the cast.
random pic to show what I mean by the length of the rod.

This isnt exactly true...
If the angler only pulls with a force of 3.25lb then both rods will exert the same force!!!
If the angler contines to pull harder and pulls the equivalent of 5lbs of pull then both rods will be exerting a pull of 5lbs...
The difference is that the angler will have to pull harder on the longer rod (lever) to make a pull equivalent to 5lbs due to the lever being longer and the pivot point being further from the angler.
The shorter rod (lever) will still be pulling 5lb but it will be easier for the angler to exert that amount of pull.
At the other end, it really doesn't matter how long or short the rod is, as 3.25lb of pull is the same on both rods.
If the pressure is increased then it is the same at the other end. The only difference is how hard the angler is having to work to exert that pull.

Heavier the lead = more mouth damage.

Just a quick question... has anyone on here actually fished with them?
I'm currently using 12ft 3.25lb FS CTXs which I really like but I can't get them to hit 120yards (before anyone says I've got lessons with Terry himself this summer already booked).
I'm planning on upgrading them to some 3.5lb TC rods soon as that will add a few yards at least. Should I look at the Kaizens? Or should I go for some customs/other off the shelf rods?

I fished a match on fox at abbey last year and the guy in the peg next to me was using these in the same tc. He was hitting the far bank (130 ish) with no issues at all. I'd suggest that new rods won't really help

For sure - I'm working on the setup as nearly all my fishing for the past few years has been under 50 yards. Just a few venues I'm now fishing may need a longer chuck of up to 120-130.
Currently using 15lb Thinking Anglers (0.35 or 0.37 I think) OGX straight through but about to change back to 0.33 ESP Syncro (12lb I think) with a leader. Lead - I've found 3.5oz is the best to cast on the 3.25lb rods. Nearly always a leadclip. I'm getting longer and more accurate with the practice.

New rods would help. Just it's better and more effective to improvise technique first.

Have you tried 4oz? Personally find that better than a 3.5 on a 31/4 rod.
What leader you going to be using, a full length shock leader is best.

Insightful as ever. Assume your mates dogs have bought them and said they are rubbish?

Sorry agreed silly post. Gave up using Korda when their hook links broke on me several years ago

Don't have to like my opinion, I have no faith in Korda. At the same token I should not have posted anything.

I'll try the 4oz again - I found the 4oz on my previous rods was too much for the 3.25.
In terms of leaders - I use the ESP ones which are tapered or Armakord in 50lb.

If I needed to use solid bags then the heavier test curve will become more important

You can always drop your lead size if you are making up bags.
2oz of bait plus 2oz of lead or 3oz plus 1oz equals 4oz,
You'll get to know roughly how much bait to go in a bag.
I'm hitting over 100metres with a bag and 3oz lead on a 3.25lb tc rod.

I have the FS 3.25 lb CTX 12 ft.
I like the rod - very light and slim (reason I bought it as that was my priority), but i would say it's closer to a 3lb TC rod.
A Fast taper, softer than stated Rod, with a Marmite finish.
I tried between a 3 and 3.5 oz lead , and was more consistent with a 3.
Depends on casting technique I guess.

Suppose it may be different from rod to rod. But I'd be surprised if it was. After all put a 3oz lead on it and give it to a big caster and they're going to be putting more load than us normal casters do and I'm more than sure they'd cope with it so I reckon (although it's just theory) the 4oz won't be too much. Don't be scared of breaking it. You'd be hard pushed to break a 3.25 rod with a 4oz
I'm sure I was told to add 0.5-1 oz on the lead size over the tc
2.5lb - 3oz
3lb - 3.75oz
3.5lb - 4.5oz

I got an original greys prodigy 3.5lb and its like a broomstick. I reckon it needs 5oz to get the best from it which is why I haven't really used it and it sits in the loft. Would make a good marker rod or light spod rod though.

It is different from rod to rod i have two sets of 3 1/4 rods one set a 3.5 lead casts slightly further than a 4 but the other set a 4 oz out casts a 3.5
A big caster casting a 3oz lead wont be overloading the blank but a 4oz lead may overload the blank.

re: " Alot of people did,nt get on with kev as like myself he had no time for 50ml hoops etc on a fishing rod. Dave lumb has the same outlook both only built/ build on harrison blanks also. I once saw Kev put a bucket 120yds away get down on one knee and put a two ounce lead straight in it first cast . "
as an old school angler, this is refreshing to hear!
i HATE rods with 50 mm
so what you say is for accuracy...
Q: is there any PROOF that having a 50 mm does in fact cast FURTHER?
Anyone?
cheers!

Do 50mm guides cast further? That question really does open a can of worms really big casters say they do but for the most if using thinner casting lines i don't think they do i think 50's can help with thicker more wirey lines or flouro though, i also think 50's can upset the balance of some rods

There's a reason tournament casters use large rings on fixed spool set ups , do large rings make a difference to all rods and all anglers ? So many variables do what suites you.

Fair enough it's a rough guide I suppose it also what suits each caster and what they are personally capable of
My point being someone like Terry Edmonds or similar would put more load with a 3oz lead than I and most others would with a 4 oz.
