I keep looking at Vintage glass rods some are lovely ,polystels,Northweston and so on,but I've managed to keep the itch ,under control, so far..

Ive been fishing since i was 8 so nearly 40 years, and have never sold any rods, plus i have all my dads rods in the attic...putting the above aside and just rods i use in my fishing currently.

1 pole.

I must have easily another 30 rods and 6 poles, for general fishing / barbel fishing, most of these are my dads as he didn't really like still water fishing and would always choose river fishing over still water...i on the other had prefer still waters.....

I wish you had never asked this because now i've had to think about it... 20 carp rods, maybe a couple more, although 5 are currently residing in France with my son so I'll probably never get them back. 3 spod / marker rods. 3 float / match rods, 1 avon rod, 1 beautiful, gorgeous Normark spinning rod. 2 beach casters, 1 pier/boat rod, 1 fly rod & 1 whip. It is highly likely that there may be a couple more random rods as well.

I find it difficult to get rid of / sell rods - each 'set' or individual rod has a story attached to it or a memory and at some point in time were treated like an extra limb, hence the reluctance to let go. There were 2 exceptions to this, i sold a set of Chimera's recently to a lad i have known for 30 years, lives locally to me and is venturing out to France to fish with my son and needed stepped up rods. They're in good hands 😅 even though i do have some pangs of regret that I won't use them again - they caught me my first Cassien 40 and in retrospect I should've kept them...The other was a set of diawa powermesh 2 1/4 lb tc rods which were lovely rods but surplus to requirements at the time and the cash was used to buy some custom built ballistas so I don't actually regret that sale.

Too much nostalgia and sentiment wrapped up in a bunch of glass / carbon / cane but, for now anyway, I wouldn't get rid of any of them - they connect me to more than a fish...

3 Carbon Carp Rods – 2 North Western 12ft 2 3/4Tc and a 12ft 21/2Tc Tricast Legend if I use a 3rd , plus 2 off 9ft 6” vintage Cane Carp Rods, Hardy “Palaconia's” both built in 1958

Pair of original John Wilson Rovex Avon Quiver deluxe, can be set in many modes, and also for the River- a rare Carbon 11ft 1 1/2Tc North Western mated up to a also rare English Racing Green Dowling Centre Pin.

3 off 8ft Sonic extractor Recon's in 3 1/2Tc, I use for roving Predator Fishing.

All get used; none are permanently wall mounted regardless of value.

Uncountable off top of my head, I know I have a holdall with my spare carp rods in and I have about 12 to 15 rods in it, then I have my carp rods currently in use, 3 plus spod and marker rods. Then I have a good collection of deadbaiting and lure rods, beach rods, float rods, feeder rods, fly rods, barbel and Avon rods. A good few have never been used and about 8 years away slung a lot of rods away into a skip to make room for more.

Don't ask how many reels we all have, my collection is bigger than rods and once again, reels I have never used.

Not enough...I started cataloguing some of my kit this year, 72 rods so far but I've not dug them all out yet.
How many do I actually use each year? Quite a few of them as I chop/change what I take depending on venue...so probably 4 or 5 different carp sets get used each year.

The others I haven't sold simply because you get feck all for stuff second hand compared to what you pay for it.

Wow..is all I can say...thought I was the bivvy king till.i read some of these lists,and Karlos,wtf ,data sheets in how many rods you have..

Good man, I've a list online saved like this including approx values should something happen to me and the boss/daughter need to sell them...morbid I know, but its also to remind me of what I've actually got shoved under the spare bed!

I've been keeping said spreadsheet for 30 years next year, I started as our house was burgled (my gear was safe, didn't have that much at the time)
If you really sit down and count it all its staggering, I still remember totting up my large Fox box and contents, I'm sure it was over £800.....nuts!

I can only imagine what some of the chaps have now value wise with £1000 reels etc :-0

I did think about the security before posting that list...

Some of the kit is at my other house, some at my farm and some at my brothers.
If anyone makes it past the cameras and security where I live they'd have earned the right to pick what they want from the list! 😂

An excellent thread Adam, well done for starting it.

I do envy those who just have one set of rods, and that's it, nice and simple. Unfortunately, life is not that easy for me, further complicated by having 2 lads 9 years apart which has increased the amount of rod sets in the house.

Keep all the carp/catfish/lure rods fully set up so they all have their own reels, because I can't be arsed breaking them down and messing about swapping reels. Every cupboard and wardrobe in our house has a set of built up rods in it, much to the wife's delight.

I've a fraction of what some of you lot have - and still probably got too many.

I've a few favourite rods. Some old split cane jobs handed down from my dad. A custom made beachcaster. That beautiful racing green carp rod...

My question is for those of you with multiple sets of 3's... do you use them all?

I go back to my favourite rods every time and I've some that I've not used in years.

What prompted this thread was how and where I fish ,and the amount of tackle I need to actually stand a sporting chance of being successful..

As I got older,I realised I didn't want,or need to have so much kit,especially, as l just love angling in general..I'm very fortunate to love both carp and course fishing ,..so that's why I'm minimal...

However,I note and see a lot of kit owned and regularly used ,and that's great ..on this thread,so that to me shows a level of interest and commitment to their hobby..

Long may it continue..!

I'm similar re getting older and not needing or wanting as much kit and will be shifting a lot next year. I've always fished the rivers and sea as well as lakes I'm surprised living in your location Adam that you don't own any fly rods,fly fishing for bass is my favourite form of angling as it's so simplistic and can be minimalistic which I appreciate more and more as I get older.

Your right though Goose,I have amazing sea fishing behind my cottage,I just don't do enough of it,despite my grandparents/family home being literally next to one of the best ,bass areas,including mullet in the harbour..where I lived til I married,...

I do some Tenkara, fixed line fly fishing which I'm crap at ,really I need to get out on the cliffs ,on those special areas ....its ,well kind of wasted on me,...

Think I'm too ingrained a course angler lol....

Forgot to say,we got no proper course rivers in this area,but..I have found a stretch with roach and perch ,although it's a spate stream mainly..

I proper envy ,those guys who have rivers with chub ,n Barbel,where they live..

I'm very fortunate to love both carp and course fishing ,..so that's why I'm minimal...

I'd say a average age for my rods is over 20 years, the oldest being 33, a fine Daiwa Harrier float rod free back then with cigarette cards but even bought think they were the grand sum of £30. I think I have 2 of the quiver rods too, 1 with a broken tip:-( ear marked for a swing tip conversion at some point. I longed for Daiwa Whisker rods back then but could never justify the price, they're still nice rods and I often find myself thinking about one on Ebay!

I kept my coarse rods as, I never expected my Carp fishing to be anymore than just another way I fish and certainly not to become almost my exclusive fishing type for over 30 years...but...I still enjoy all the other aspects of coarse fishing and I'm presently erring back towards general coarse.....we'll see. One things for sure, even if I did fancy a new seat box for my old Shakespeare I won't be buying 1...the prices

I know I'm getting old at 50 next year but how do the youngsters afford some of the kit out there, I know if I was one I'd be paranoid about posting...how sad :-( Then again I bet its all over Faceache

3x Hi-S 220, (which I don't use much now, used to cast up to around 48-49 wraps with them)

3x Hi-S 10ft, (currently my fave rods, so light to use - can still hit 25 wraps with them if needed)

For spodding I have a Harisson Trebuchet 13ft, and a small 10ft ESP quickdraw spod rod.

I've been thinking along the same lines. I have more gear than I need and will have to cut down before I retire. Some money from a few sales would help with day to day costs of going. I just hate letting anything go. I'd rather give it to my relatives than sell it.
