It's finally here and Ali Hamidi is charging £60 for the thing. Is it just me or is the guy being greedy and charging ridiculous prices already? I really liked the idea of the Tool but for 60 notes he can jog on. I feel like he is pricing out the average angler who just can't afford to pay nearly a day's wages on a a rig multi tool. Its a shame because I liked the idea of it when he first announced it and was looking forward to potentially having one as I thought it would be a third of that price but he has definitely priced me out of buying one...

Ali isn't daft, he knows it's ideal for a Christmas gift and will sell plenty that way.
It is expensive though, a quality cycling multi tool is around £30.

It's not for me, but it looks a nice bit of kit and packaging is smart. If people are willing to pay £60+ for set of Korda distance sticks doubt he'll have much problem shifting these.

I dont think i would use one even if it was free. It wont fit in your tackle box, will weigh quite a bit and you will be constantly opening each bit to find the one you actually want.

I was looking for a specific tool for my bike,it's fits in the frame and only the manufacturer make them to fit in the frame...its also 60 quid,so I bought a bag that fits under the saddle, and made my own ,get me out of a fix ,set up for about 20 quid..

I can't say that's ever been a problem for me.
The Gardner at £9.99 posted seems much better value but I won't be getting either.
My preference is to use individual tools and I only really use one baiting needle and one drill so most of the tools I wouldn't use. Also I have the habit of holding these tools in my mouth while fiddling about doing stuff, doing that with a multi tool would be difficult.
And lastly to use the drills on these multi tools you have to twist the boilie not the tool, something I'd rather not do.

Until I dropped it in a deep margin I had been using the same Fox baiting needle that cost about £4 for 15 years. I replaced it with another one that's not snapped yet!
I have a small Matrix drill for hard baits/Tigers and use the ESP/Thinking Anglers splicing needles you used to get free with their Leadcore for anything delicate! Again all years old and never snapped!

Not being funny, but most Multi-tools have a inherent problem in that the angle of tool of most items when in use is awkward. They are good at one thing, the rest don't feel comfortable when in use, but just do the job.

Add to that, lose the multi-tool, you are boogered, everything is gone.

To be fair, the Wychwood thing doesn't have half the functionality and it looks pants.
Before you all start going on at me that it doesn't matter how it looks, take a second glance at your rods, rod pods, reels, bite alarms and whatever else and tell me that they're all the cheapest / most functional stuff you can get away with.....
Fact is, there is a gap in the market for this type of all in one tool, that looks good and is well engineered; I bet he sells loads of them.

Ali is fully aware that he is taking the pi55 with his products and pricing. He is fully aware of the comments and negativity towards his products.

Multi tools are only ideal for cycling as they fold up small and can fit in a small saddlebag. That's the point of them, but they're a lot more fiddly to use than individual tools. It doesn't make any sense to me for a fishing tool doing the awkward stuff like drilling and splicing etc.
And yeah, Ali is 100% looking at the gift sector, knowing full well that a lot will find their way into stocking at Christmas. It's no coincidence he released it now.

tbf ... The way Ali markets his products and himself will always divide opinion. His hyper excited and shouty marketing strategy was alwas going to annoy some people. He and his backers must be aware of this. He must be aware that his appeal is probably the younger or fame hungry type angler, which is fine to begin with, but it runs the risk of alienating a large part of the market.
To be successful long term i think OMC will need to change strategy imo. I think Ali is tolerable to most people in small doses but i cant see him being the right "personality" for sustained success for OMC. He has morphed towards being more a TV presenter than credible angler in latter years. I think they need find an additional or even replacement primary "face" of the business. The scarf video took a hammering online (unsurprisingly), the tool thingy feels a little desperate and the clothing (jewel in the crown) doesnt seem to taking off. The rain jackets (for instance) are claimed to be water repellent, yet not waterproof .... what does that mean? .... and he is asking premium prices for these products.
I feel for him a little bit, the pressure must be immense (especially if things not going to plan) and there are signs he is starting to react badly on occasions on social media to less favourable feedback. Social media really is a double edge sword and his whole marketing model seems to be reliant on it.
I think Korda might of foreseen this, even before he left, perhaps outgrowing him as they move themselves towards a more calmer, professional and traditional feel (in a modern way). I thought the latest Monster Carp was a sign of this ... and was much better for it (imo).
I wish him no ill, i hope he does become a success for him. He deserves it for taking the leap. It cant of been an easy decision and whenever i have heard him speak on podcasts (without his marketing hat on) he comes across very well. Everything he is putting out is right at the top of the pricing model, and so it slowly pushes others in that direction. The clothing for example is very expensive.
I am at the point now where I hope the business fails and the limelight can be shone on proper companies selling really good gear.

The other stuff is just same as everything else I agree on that. If you cannot afford stuff, don't buy it, lots of cheaper products to cover everyone's means. People need to stop moaning, concentrate on their own lives and just enjoy going fishing.

Yes testing the market if one company sell tackle at ridiculous prices and if they sell other companies will do the same I think there's enough tackle companies out there he's to late needed to start up years ago what with the recession I can only see them struggling leave it to the well established companies the grass Is always greener

On the other end of the scale when Badger Tackle started up they sold at rock bottom prices.
OK not the best quality but I did notice the big boys who were doing steep price rises started to cut back a bit, then companies like Chubb and Wychwood came in as companies in the middle and prices started to be a bit more sensible.
That seemed to last a good few years but with companies like OMC bloating prices I worry that the trend described will go into reverse. Maybe the forth coming recession will put a stop to it?

The thing is with carp angling, is there is no way to properly aim your products at a specific market without a hell of lot of your un-intended market also coming across your products. For example, I have absolutely no interest in buying a £400 Mulberry hand bag, yet the company manage to sell bucket loads due to it's reputation and it's ability to advertise in the correct spaces. The only way for carp anglers NOT to see adverts for stuff they neither need or want is not to follow said companies on social media, or not to buy the magazines. So, a lot of the time you only see products through forums, or when your pals on social media (many with the same mindset) share the adverts and take the proverbial.
It's not ideal for companies, but that's the way it is.
Companies don't have the print to aim their products neither. Niche products you would find in TC may not have ended up in BC. Many people will blame paper costs for the magazines dying, but unless someone can explain to me why 8 train spotter magazines can maintain custom via WHsmith, yet the biggest participation sport can muster less, than I still believe that it's our own inability to adapt that caused their decline. the needle the shape was perfection perfect diameter and the important shoulder increase in size meant you could open up a small hair to just the right size for a stop after being pulled thru a tough boilie
and of course the fluorescent pink colour that made it hard to lose its why I still use it and got it

I've used a leatherman wave for years, and the pliers have been invaluable. From unhooking coots myself and the occasional stubborn hooked fish. I don't need six types of baiting needle. Why no pliers.
