I cannot remember the last time I used a shelf life boilie, but was a long time ago, no doubt shelfies have improved.
Was looking at DNA's and Sticky range of shelfies.

What's the shelf life boilie you've had most success on?

If we are talking ever then I guess I'd have to say probably one of the ritchworth baits years ago. But I'm not sure that's a relevant answer for today's world as 2o odd years ago I was fishing what would be termed runs waters now.

I did ok a couple of winters ago on Manilla. I've only decided myself in the last couple of years to go back to shelf life and only use the freezer for buckets and particles.

So I can't really comment too much on modern shelfies. I've switched to DNA this year and although i obviously can't speak from experience about it, my first impressions of the nutta, slk and s7 shelf life's is very positive. They seem spot on. I hope they catch me a few going forward as I like them enough that I don't really want to change off of them even though I'm just starting out with them and their deals are very good. So far the service has been spot on as well.

Hi the lake I am on are discussing shelf life at the moment with the potential to ban it
They are well in with a big bait company and use their Fresh offcuts to feed the lake
They have serious concerns about the shelf life boilies breaking down on the lake bed and think it will only be really known in a couple of years after usage
I have some ccmoore live system shelf life that's now 7 years old and still smells and looks ok apart from having a white coating.
If they are like this after 7 years then what is our lake bed looking like
It's definitely more user friendly for us anglers but what is it doing to our lakes

Only started using shelf-life baits as of last season, went with Baitworks Atlantic Heat, it was very successful for me and miles away from the old shelf-life baits from yesteryear.

This season went with DNA Baits S7 & SLK, results have been very promising so far, very soft for shelf-life baits.

I haven't used either of the above companies fresh / frozen baits so I can't compare to those.

The fish have shown a very positive feeding reaction to both above baits and return for more which is what matters.

Surely they would fill a bucket with lake water and throw some baits into it and see how long they take to breakdown?

These modern shelf-life baits seem miles better than the old ones and from my understanding only contain minimum amount of preservative?

The biodiversity within the lake should have a big impact upon the bait but I suppose not all shelf-life baits are made the same?

For starters I'd chuck your 7 year old white coated bait in the bin.

The bait is obviously going to behave differently in air to water.

Go with sticky Krill range. Not cheap but really effective everywhere I've fished. Absolute confidence in it.

Hi buddy to be honest I had forgotten about it. It was in a bucket at the back of the garage. I binned it when I found it but was amazed at how good a condition it was in and when you split it with a knife it was perfect inside

Either Jason Riders A Baits of Baitworks shelf life range

I prefer the Royal Marine and Atlantic Heat in shelf life over frozen as they are a bit firmer.

I watched a small video of a lake that had been drained on the RH waters and 100s of shelf life boilies scattered the bottom, they reckon some of them had been on the bottom for a very long time and had turned rancid

B5 for me too. They are quite hard, but I have caught well on them from different waters. Unfortunately you have to buy rather large quantities to get a decent price.

In the past few years the only shelf life boilies I have used have been Rod Hutchinson Monster Crab and KMG. I have had some very good fish from the reservoir on them.

The KMG is a long term food bait, not just an attractor package.

I have never used the B5 freezers. Living outside the UK, I don't have the opportunity to buy freezers, but I have used the shelfies for years now and when I blank I never feel it had anything to do with the bait. I sometimes soak them in the water from my boiled hemp or the B5 liquid food but i doesn't seem to make them much softer. They can still be used as hookbaits.

Cherry have their haters which seems to stem largely from the fact the rolling is outsourced abroad to a factory that mass produce a lot of 'euro style' seemingly low quality baits.

Ive seen the range and although I have never used them I know people that have and I don't think they are any worse or better than a large proportion of other baits currently out there and are not even particularly cheap now. Especially when you factor in I think they only deal direct?

One thing I've learnt from this forum is try things for yourself, a lot of '' info'' on this forum comes from regurgitated fake news from people with little or no experience of the product

Quite a few years ago now I used B5, to almost zero success, switched over to a mix of Trent Freshwater Shrimp & Baitworks Atlantic Heat, before making a decision to use solely Atlantic Heat, and have never looked back.

The fact they now do them in shelf life and are not rock solid (very much the same texture as the fresh) is an absolute bonus. I've mostly use their shelf life and results seem to have been near enough the same as when on their fresh baits in previous seasons.

I used the CNC when it came out for a while, did well for me on the waters I fished, did very well in France on it.

All time fave shelfie has to be Dynamite Baits Banana Nut Crunch, I'd still use it now if it was available....I'm a big fan of Banana flavoured boilies.

That's a bit harsh. Personally I would only ever comment on or recommend a product I had used myself. If your not discerning enough to only take advice from people qualified to give it then that's your problem. I would never criticise a product unless I had used it with adverse results.

What I take issue with is people talking with authority on what a bait contains without being aware of the facts.

People can speculate and make assumptions on a baits quality based on personal experience and results BUT unless you know for 100% what a bait contains I don't find comments like its no more than floor sweepings useful or particularly fair on the company concerned whether that be cherry or whoever. In fact it is libelous.

I cant see how you could know this as fact unless:
a) you have visited the factory and seen the bait being made personally
b) if you have had a chemical analysis done

No, an opinion is the bait didn't bait work for me or it doesn't look to be made of very high quality Ingredients

The bait is nothing more than floor sweepings is not just an opinion, you are passing off something as a matter of fact. Big difference.

"the bait didn't work for me" is a fact, not an opinion.
I think it's fair that someone can have an ill opinion based on what they have heard or seen from others.
Admittedly IP100 has a certain way with words that might exaggerate that opinion somewhat

I agree Yonny, i think the danger comes when people simply regurgitate something they've read elsewhere then all of a sudden one persons opinion suddenly is made to look like half the carp angling community feel the same when the reality is if they used or saw the product first hand they may feel differently. Unfounded comments can be extremely damaging to a business as i have found out unfortunately.

I am NOT saying that is always the case or what happened on here before i get shot down.

Not at all chap. Go to the shows when they start again, look at the "bait" on offer at a lot of these stands, half of which you've never heard of the company, selling the euro grade floor sweepings rubbish and then go compare then to some of the better firms baits and you will see the difference in quality very easily.
So just to keep you happy, in my opinion cherry carp baits are little more than euro grade rubbish. There you go, nothing matter of fact about that is there?

Just flicked though this thread. Opinions will always be divided but someone mentioned analysis. There are some very clever people around the bait industry and I assure you that analysing baits is already being done. If it ever comes to light then some companies will be exposed, some will have proof and others won't care one little bit. I'm all for it personally as selling flavoured cow cake for 6 quid a kilo is merely ripping off anglers who deserve a little bit more info and transparency. There is some good companies out there who work hard and honestly but they will be the ones that survive in the end. That's not a dig at any companies mentioned below

On the over stocked day ticket/commercial type waters just about any standard of bait will catch, it when you fish a super rich natural type water that's when the difference between a “ Convenience or Quality “ bait shows up immediately.

I'm fishing a lake that's renowned for being practically impossible to catch anything during June/July/August due to the sheer amounts of natural food, everybody is struggling at the moment, bar one person. I noticed one guy is actually catching a few, what's he doing different – nothing, what's he using that's different – Rolls all his own bait!
