I'll be out there.
Other than catching carp, being out in extreme conditions (apart from extreme heat!) is probably my fave thing about angling. Forces of nature innit.

Quote: Bank Tackle hand sharpened hooks

The look remarkably like the old J Precision jobbies, before they released the Advanced range. Wonder if they've done a deal with JP?

Quote: Any advice for fishing a lake this deep?

Same as anywhere else mate. Fish where you see the carp.

Quote: Sad, I know but on ‘my’ lakes quite a few people are claiming a fish as the lakes biggy but down in weight, and also claiming fish to be named ones that aren’t?

A fish I have been after for a few years now has been claimed by 2 people, but it isn’t that fish.

If I was after a specific carp, and I had random guys wandering around telling everyone it's already been out, I personally would be happy as Larry.

Quote: WHSmith has more train spotting and knitting mags than it does  fishing mags.

The internet killed the magazines. I would say that the topics you've mentioned probably highlight that fact. At a guess I bet 80% of trainspotters and knitters are old enough to have never got to grips with Google.

Quote: A big weather front could increase pressure by 30 millibars, which is approx. 0.0296 atm. What's more realistic (my guess, not fact!) is that with moody weather comes lower light, which may make carp more likely to feed as those conditions are less conducive to being preyed upon by predators

It's just the conditions that tend to come with pressure systems that do it imo. That big weather front you mention (winds and rain) brings with it oxygenation which leads to feeding. Especially after a period of high pressure which tends to bring calm/hot/humid conditions.

If you get big winds/rain under high pressure conditions you'll still see them having it.

That said, who knows how they experience the effects of atmospheric pressure? I have seen carp show up on the end of a new wind before it's even arrived plenty of times so they clearly sense things that we do not.

Ref moon phases. I do buy it (not necessarily a change to catchability, but defo a change in behaviour), and that's based on what I see during both the new and full moons. Nine times out of 10 you can literally see the increase in activity imo. I don't have the luxury of being able to plan my limited bank time around the moon phases but I'll always keep one eye on the calendar.

A carp I chased around for a few years only came out once a year, on the same moon (harvest moon), 4 years on the trot. Now I won't put my neck on the line and say it was defo the moon phase, but there was defo something about that short period that meant that carp was coming out.

Salopettes..... In terms of insulation/warmth, you'll struggle to match the Tundras unless you go Sungpak, but the Snuggy salopettes aint waterproof. Hence, stick with the Tundras imo.

Jacket wise you have the Snugpak Torrent or Torrent Extreme that can match the Tundra. The standard Torrent is cheaper, with the Extreme a bit more expensive. I went with the Extreme but now wish I'd got the standard. The Extreme is too warm for autumn and early spring imo.

Not that bad inside for a spod reel imo. I've seen miles worse. That's the beauty of Daiwa though..... it'd sound awful on the retrieve but keep going for another 20y.

The original Emblem Spod always had one shark tooth and one spring loaded metal line clip as far as I'm aware. Its successor, which was a different model completely, had 2 spring loaded line clips. The original only ever had one ratio, spool size, line capacity etc, but deeper spools for some other reels (e.g. Emblem Pro) did fit it.
