I see from recent Socials that ESP are releasing two new brollies under the quickdraw banner. Any one privvy to the diffrence between these and the Lo Pro brolly. I'm thinking some sort of bi fold spoke system to reduce pack down size maybe??

I'm an all year brolly fan, and used scope brollys since day 1. I've got two recons and then one of the black ops with the folding ribs. It's good in concept but nowhere near as solid as a normal brolly, so hoping these aren't folding ribs. Be nice to see some new brollys on the market as everyone seems to be all about bivvys these days.

Would be nice to see a quality brolly with a decent optional fitted mozzi mesh (ideally magnetic style), doesn't need vents or any of that malarkey.

52&58 inch versions (I have the larger).

The grounds been too hard to get the storm rods in very far, so have just pegged the sides then brace the storm rods against that and it's been great. Last night in it was on the end of a SW setup front on, on a 60 acre pit.
Movie mesh is removable with quite a new attachment type.
Really lightweight and easy to erect (being a brolly obviously), even though the material is tick/laminated type.

I'll check weights but I use mine (58") just with two short poles, and then 4 pegs and feels very lightweight. I use it on the lowest settling and still gives loads of coverage for a 'normal' bedchair @(duralite in my case) with rucksack behind, cool bag by head and brew kit on a bucket next to me.

Looks like the rebirth of the brolly as a shelter. I see Nash and Fox are bringing the brolly back to market as well. Can't beet fishing under a ribbed brolly. Trakker should be done under the trade description act for calling there shelters brolly with out a rib insight.

Is your bed bespoke? If the chair fits your fit.. sitting might be a problem. Chair or mat on the floor seems like the only option.

There are 3 pegging points, i now use mine on just the lowest setting.
Admittedly i'm only 5.9/5.10, but can it on my duralite bed straight up on the lowest setting, no hunching over at all.
I'll try and get some photos up if i have time or happy to Whats app them to someone more savvy

I've the Solar Sleep-tec, so it is on the slightly high side.
I just know from similar spec brollies there is not a chance of me sitting in a chair seeing anything. I dont mind a bit of floor sitting, but in winter its not the one.
A real shame as like everyone else in the thread, I'm happy to buy pretty much most things ESP do.

I guess with it being only 2 ribs on the ground at the back (like the old Nash profile), it keeps the whole thing more compact & lighter, the trade off being less stability in wind. Not that that should matter if pegged with poles.

I've managed to get my kit down to "ultralight" weight levels so I've experimented with lots of weight saving measures.
If using a brolly like this that may not be as rigid as some shelter's, here's some things that may be helpful:
1. I only use 2 short storm poles at the sides of the brolly. I suggest using storm poles with auger points as they offer great rigidity.
2. On the front of the brolly instead of long storm poles I use 2 lightweight nylon guy lines. I attach these to the storm pole attachment points. If you want to avoid tripping over them in the dark, angle them slightly sideways or purchase nylon that has reflective thread built in.
3. I also use the Jag Xcavator pegs (only 32g each). Yes they're expensive but I'm happy to pay for the development work that goes in to these kinds of products and to support UK jobs.
4. This brolly only has 2 ribs which touch the floor at the rear, however it has an eyelet on the bell cap so you can add a twin guy line at the rear.

Best I have done for overnights and keeping the weight down is the korum progress shelter at 2.1 kg coupled with 2 x dymag poles. Shorter ones to go at the sides as below.
It's ok with my compact bedchair for a night.
Pegs I use titanium ones at 11 grams each. Not as solid as bivvy pegs but they do the job.

For non bivvy pegs I've found the Easton Nano Stakes 9 inch at 15g each to be super solid.
I tend to use the Jag Xcavator pegs (32g) at the major corners and the Easton pegs as intermediates.

Yes, I went for the 52. Never had anything except brollys, and this seems to fit the bill perfectly. Also never owned a mozzy mesh, but will definitely be using it. Don't know if I'll bother lugging round all four storm poles.

I'd be surprised if they didn't. They done a front for the Lo pro. I'd imagine it would be a case of clipping one to the same loops they use for the Mozu mesh.. or if youcant wait. I'm sure someone like Army Andy would be able to make you one..

I would have bought a scope brolly had they come out first, the old recon was absolutely spot on, I've still got two! But the 52 quickdraw beat nashy to it...

I have done about 15 nights under mine since I got it. Pegs are sh*t, otherwise it's spot on and an absolute treat to carry / put up / take down.

I have had mine a month now and my advice is to swap out all the poles for something else. I have changed mine to Fox Powerpoint storm poles and also using the Jag bivvy pegs. It feels way more rigid now.

I've got a Fox 60" brolly (current model) and it's heavy but the coverage is excellent with space for a solar dura sore wide bed chair on over nighters and tons of room on days with me a bag and a solar sofa chair under it.
Anyone know how the 52" would be for coverage in both those situations? Would a Solar bed chair fit lengthways and how about with a day chair under it?

Anyone know how the 52" would be for coverage in both those situations? Would a Solar bed chair fit lengthways and how about with a day chair under it?

It's the 58 inch. The bed is the Fox R Series which is approximately 210cm.
@0nslow - your bed is 11cm wider than mine, so I very much doubt it will fit well under the smaller brolly.
I have ordered some lightweight storm poles but that's more to have a single set to use for the brolly and the Frontier Lite (which I use for longer trips) as opposed to the supplied ones being bad - they've done the job so far.

Have got my Trakker MF HDR oval under it, touches either end at 215cm long but the shape helped it squeeze back. A normal shaped bedchair at that width (max 85cm) would get wet.
Aldo have an RLX 6 leg which fits under better as its 200cm long and only 74cm wide.
It is a brolly at the end of the day, they aren't as sturdy as tempests. I spent many years under original aqua 50" and 60" brollies, and they were sturdier with the 4 back ribs touching the ground, but they didn't have the nice pack down size or such a good space saver frame.
If you are set up right and not expecting to stay dry with a wind in your face, they will keep you dry within reason, although when it really rains you then get the splashing coming up off the ground due to the limited front cover.
I like it, it will probably be my go to shelter for the later spring and summer, but whilst the weather is rubbish, it will be my tempest brolly.

A quick measure my bed chair is around 90cm so I'll stick with my Fox it has plenty of life left just feels a lot heavier than what they advertise it as.

When using a brolly I use lightweight carbon storm poles from Nero Angling to keep the weight down and guy ropes. You can make a brolly absolutely rock solid with a few guy ropes and the Jag screw in pegs. I only use 2 short storm poles on the outer ribs and use guy ropes on the 2 central ribs at the front. This keeps the front solid even when the wind gets up.
You can get reflective guy lines if you have a habit of tripping over them but I prefer the camo versions in case you get anyone creeping around in the dark.
A lightweight bedchair cover can also help if the rain does get a bit horizontal.

I saw a picture of one of the new esp brollies and surprised they didnt have four ribs on the floor for a bit of extra stability.

Obviously only having two ribs on the floor make the shelter a lot lighter and more compact/ shorter. Probably the reason it comes with four storm poles to help with stability. Tieing up with the rest of the quick draw range.

From all the photos I saw they looked low and stealth.
Lovely if you're around average height of shorter, but I am 6ft 6 and not a chance from i can tell.

Hello mate,
I had a look at a 58 yesterday at the big one, and I didn't know but there are three eyelets each side, and you can extend higher than the spec.
I am 6.6ft and getting inside it yesterday I would be ok.

I've the same bed, it will be tight because of the legs length but probably ok. I am hopefully looking at getting one soon, so can report back.

I ended up buying one on Friday and doing a night at weekend using my sp c tech (older version) and there was plenty of head height, not an awful lot of coverage at the front buty hey its a brolly so I wasnt expecting much and I have seen a few companies make the sides for them but that defeats the object in my view (light and mobile)
I hear there will be a wrap of sort at some point in the future.
I also brought the custom jag lightweight storm poles and I already had the titanium pegs, stripped back the gs, original pegs and storm poles and the whole thing is a tad over 3 kilos

Really surprised by the head height given it's a taller bed too, that's my main concern having bought a flatliner and being just over 6', sounds good

I'm toying with the idea of getting one, I have a solar cp-tech mk2 standard. I've seen tommys tackle post videos in a 52' and it fits albeit tight but it's raised very high. Anyone used this combo and know if you can drop it lower for a bit more cover?
I would prefer the 58' but by the looks of out of stock everywhere and won't be back for a good while

I've got a 52 and have posted on this on other threads, it's a small brolly designed for smaller bedchairs, the spec they advise in their advert is pretty spot on. I've done a night on my Oval MF HDR and it just fitted, but that was more down to the shape. My other 6 leg RLX fits under lovely as it's a shorter narrower bed, but front coverage will never be great on such a small brolly.

You're absolutely right, the positives of a smaller brolly outweighs the negatives, such as getting in tight swims.
However, to avoid getting too wet if the rain starts here's a few tricks I use.
Drop the brolly very low.
Use a waterproof bed chair cover that covers your whole bed and almost touches the floor.
Use your unhooking mat as a storm side.
Use a water tub and buckets as the other storm side.
Use a barrow as a storm side.
It's usually preventing mud splash which is the hardest.

It always amazes me that manufactures leave off critical information on product listings.

Thought I'd circle back on this, I went ahead and got a 52 inch and my solar bed fits well in there, very pleased with it. The main thing for me was packdown size, I had already tried one of the new Nash scope brolly's but due to the height of my bed I could t push it far enough back. With the 52 I feel like I've got ample cover as you can drop it down low if needed. If I had a 58 with the solar Cp-tech you'd have decent amount of room

I use the lo pro and it has the extended ribs. I think the QuickDraw does not have this and is more a typical Brolly with side flaps.

I’ve mainly used freestanding brollies and is there a knack or method to getting this one up quickly, my fast and light I seem to be able to setup quicker. That’s my only gripe, im impressed with it so far and for anyone wondering it easily fits in the side pocket of the TA slim quiver.
