Thread: Barrow Cover

After getting a soaking last night and all my kit, it’s time to replace my +15 year old Angling Intelligence cover.
Any recommendations? Needs to be properly waterproof and a decent size but not so big it drags on the floor. I only use a little trakker x-trail T1 barrow.

It really depends on your style of fishing, but i've never liked thermal and waterproof in a single jacket/sallopettes, especially if in and out of a shelter in the colder months. I like to be able to take off the wet layers, hang them up and keep the thermal stuff on.

I did have the Tundra salopettes, but found them quite bulky and even though i'm not that tall (6ft), size large felt like they were strangling the undercarriage too much. They are very warm though, you certainly wouldn't want to put them on then barrow your kit to a swim.

I've been using them for a few years and love them on my 10ft rods. I use both 20lb Hybron and 16lb FTX fluro and no issues at all. Have happily used 20lb xline on them as well. Smaller, lighter and smoother than tournies, but i will say i've never attempted casting more than 50yds with that set up. Clutch is lovely, not too quick and most importantly for me, it tightens down mega tight for hit and hold at close quarters. A definite upgrade on SS2600 and GS4000's, which i've owned both.

I've been genuinely surprised at the popularity of these, i just assumed everyone was like me and just took the bare minimum kit stuffed into the smallest bag i can get away with. With the ease of replacing hooks on rigs nowadays, i just have simple access to spare hooks, leads and kit for mounting hookbaits. Everything else is in a small bag at the bottom of my rucksack and rarely sees the light of day whilst i'm on the bank. Good luck to Cotswold, they've clearly found something people want.

For fixed bars I really don’t like the 1” spacing on two rod set ups between front and back and it seems to be standard these days. You end up with your rods splayed like a hookers legs.

1” difference between front and back on 3 rod bars is fine but I only want 0.5” on two rod bars.

I like the look of the sub jag stuff for my two rod set up but unfortunately they are another brand that stick to the 1” rule.

So are these the same concept as the Korda Divide system, that korda seemed to flog off cheap about a year ago?

I’m still convinced it was something to do with the line rollers, it couldn’t be anything else. Tried different lines, leads etc, nothing made a blind bit of difference. Never had an issue with other reels with slow oscillation either. Was only ever the 10,000’s. My mates were fine and he never had an issue, in fact he only sold them on recently, 20 years old and got a fortune for them, way more than he paid originally.

There were posts on here about it at the time, a few suffered badly, lots never had an issue. I don’t think it was ever worked out. My mate tried to help me out, We walked out and unloaded my entire spool along a boating lake then reeled it all in through the water with nothing on the end but just at slight tension through a wet cloth. That should be as good as you can get line on a spool, first cast 40yds with it clattering through the rings, curled up all over the show. Just weird??
Never had it with any other reel and I’ve had a lot.

I was the opposite, couldn’t get rid quick enough. Lovely looking reels but the worst line twist I’ve ever had. Nothing would stop it, even replaced the rollers as I was convinced something had to be wrong.
Had some original silver tech mag xsa’s as well, which had no line twist issues but were so delicate, something seemed to break on them every few weeks. Think I kept Felindre in business whilst I had them.

Korda Compac Flat mat is ideal, very light for the size, quick drying. No frills, folds into waterproof carry bag that you can easily clip onto a rucksack if carrying your gear.
