If you're reading this then you will have noticed that the forum is back.

What happened?
Back on Oct 6th one of the databases on my server died, went corrupt.
I spoke with the hosting company (who shall remain nameless for now) and managed to get them to reboot the server, it had locked up, so that I could attempt to repair everything via iPhone and tethered iPad, whilst fishing.
After chasing the hosting company and a few reboots I managed to get the site going again.
It plodded on for a couple weeks and I thought maybe it was a glitch in the matrix and everything was now 'golden' again...

...then Weds 19th (two weeks later) it died again.
Call hosting company and managed to get hold of someone with a bit of IT knowledge. He confirmed that the hard disks were failing. This was a tad annoying as I had asked them two weeks ago to check for that...
So I managed to get SOME of the databases off the server, but the CarpForum database was corrupt. I couldn't get hold of it.
So...I've had to use a back up of the CF database from back in September to get things going again....we've lost a month or so of posts BUT the site is back for those of you who missed it.

Unfortunately, all of the code was lost....and there were some new bits of code that I never had a backup of. So the 'like' functionality is no more (the data up to Sept 20th will still be in the database...so once I rewrite the like functions the thumbs will appear again)

Going forward...
The site(s) are now hosted on a new server I purchased. The server should be slightly faster, and I think I have more storage so I might consider writing some photo upload routines to save you having to host pics on ImgBB etc

Another thing (for me) to tidy up...missing profile pics.
If your image is missing, email the photo to me (link bottom right of page) and I will get them back in place ASAP

Yes, I did manage to catch 3 carp that session...all's well that ends well!

Just as a heads-up, I will probably be re-writing some of the site to make it mobile friendly....as you will know, it's awful on small screens.
I might do it a page at a time...I'll see how it goes once I get started.

Ouch!
Glad you have managed to get most of it sorted.

Be really good if you can sort out image uploads directly, the 'img' tags are the only reason I don't ever put pics up on here.

What I like about Carpforum is that it was created by yourself from nothing, it's unique, not one of those generic off the peg types, nothing to do with the tech giants.
I know some people have trouble posting pics but I don't want anything to change, I've been on other forums that have folded but this one survives, long may it continue.

It has survived, it has been the best forum that I have seen, and there has been some great input over the years that kept me looking in. Sad side is there a LOT of people who have been banned over the years and I can't help thinking it has been modded to death at times too sadly. As a MOD, for me, you should be completely, utterly and totally un-biased, they should be there for one reason, to uphold the rules, that's it and it has definitely suffered over kill over the years for me

There a swear filter for the easily offended and some rules but I feel the majority can hold decent conversation, controversial at times no doubt, but it would be pretty sad if everybody walked down the street the same way and said yes to everything and everybody all time, in fact it would not be real life really would it

Well its back.......

Although the format is still the same as it was 15 years ago you can see some oppurtunity has been missed.... 37 online even 15 years ago it was rare to see less than 100 members online and fishing has come on leaps and bounds since then.

Time for an update and upheavel of the whole site including attitude of the mods, One i used to idolise then he banned me lol what a place.
