Hi
Cypography released and then swiftly deleted a podcast yesterday. Seen some accusations of a fish death on burghfield last summer... was this discussed on the podcast?
Can anyone shed any light?

Apparently Elliot clubbed the Burfy common to death with one of his buzz bars as the fish bent it on the take. Obviously not happy. Id of been the same to be honest.. been kept quite by the lake owners for obvious reason. Fuss about nothing if you as me. Thought there might be a bit of a back lash probably why it was deleted..

I saw Elliott posted a video explaining everything on Facebook earlier.
A fish did die, but it was found a couple weeks after he had caught it.
Check his video for his side of the story.
I've not bothered looking around for the other side of the story

There's also a suggestion it may have died in the sack, no idea if true or not though!
It seems someone knows something or they just have an axe to grind with him.

Elliott made a post about it explaining his side.
There's people asking him to clear it up by showing everyone the time on the camera the pics of said fish were taken...which he hasn't done yet I don't think. You'd think if the fish wasn't in the sack for hours and hours he would want to prove them wrong surely?

Think the one that died in the sack as pointed out by Shelley was a completely different fish from Suffolk Water Park. Fingers were pointed at Shelley at the time but he claims he found it!
Elliot caught and sacked a fish which then died 2 weeks later. The rules allow sacking and he says it was done properly in well oxygenated water. Very unlikely that his capture and handling of the fish had anything to do with its demise, can't 100% rule it out but the probability is extremely low.
I caught very special fish a few years ago, had been out in the previous November at 50lb plus but was well down in weight when I was the next one to catch it at 43.3 the following September. I caught it in daylight, didn't sack it but retained it, in 5ft of water for 30 minutes until a guy came round to do the photos. The fish swam off well but was never caught again and was found dead sometime later. Did my handling and treatment of that fish lead to its demise? Again, can't 100% rule it out but just as unlikely as Elliots fish IMO.
Personally the sacking or retaining of fish should probably stop altogether, it's not really necessary these days! Some of these photos you see of multiple retainers in the water having been there all night are truly shocking!
For 90% of captures we should all be able to do a self take with the amount of camera/phone accessories available now. Get your camera gear set up in advance, leave the fish in the net for a few minutes, graph it, return it.

Have to agree that there does appear to be inconsistencies in Elliot's story. Sacked at 2am but photos done at first light? If that's the case, show the photo taken time. Put it all to bed.
Agree with other comments on here, we're past the stage of needing to sack fish.

Without trying to stir the pot, the fish was found dead two weeks later unless there's been an autopsy to prove estimated time of demise.

Yeah a very fair point mate.
Just because it was found 2 weeks later doesn't mean it died 2 weeks after the capture....

The trouble is it's a bloke that owns a fishing photography business. He films everything, all his cameras will be correctly setup and have the right times, dates on etc etc.
He will have filmed the carp returning, swimming off. If the fish was indeed in a good way then why isn't he showing it? Because he can't is the only reason surely.
As stated the fish could have died an hour after bring caught and then found two weeks after, it's a big old lake.

Bit rich this being put out by the biggest stroke puller in carp fishing history, the man that had a sacked fish swim off in the sack, soaps snags, builds dambs trapping fish ect ect.

I agree with this. I can understand initially not publicising the photos as waiting to drop them at a convenient time for the most traction for his business. If in the interim the fish died he might've felt a certain way about never posting them. As others have said it could just be an unfortunate coincidence.
But, now his integrity is in question, they are the key to exonerating him. Why would you not do that now?
The explanation he's given just gives a version of events with no explanation, there's no evidence. If you are someone that thrusts yourself into a prominent position, you have to be happy to be held accountable.

There's no evidence against him either though apart from a known stirrer doing what he loves and I've heard the time span from his capture to it popping up dead at anything from two weeks to five weeks depending who's telling the story. Fact is any carp caught is stressed after capture and no matter how good the fish cared for and how quickly it is returned it could die and most will say it's never happened to me or anyone I know it can happen and the only way to guarantee it doesn't would be not to catch them in the first place.

He emphasised several times that he retained the fish "from 2am until first light" which is about 5am in August so photos done by 6am?

Maybe. I think 99.9% of the chaps subscribed to CYP will know exactly what Slim is really like. I'd honestly be surprised if the business is affected at all. Still, Elliot felt the need to do the video so he must be concerned in some capacity.

I know a few guys on the Burghfield ticket. Was a lovely fish that croaked it, one of the real gems (Baz Llloyd fish). No idea about the sacking story and what the actual truth was but, for a bloke that owns a social media company, this would have made good viewing on one of his movies. As has been mentioned, the guy just needs to say when it was released back into the lake as there will undoubtedly be video footage and stills. Will then be put to bed. On the flipside, if it was sacked up for hours after first light whilst waiting for a full film crew to rock up, it makes the bloke a **** in my book.
That's the trouble with the internet the unconscious bias we have. Jim the stroke puller and Elliot the modern day Carpy icon. I'm sure whatever the truth is Elliot was devastated and at worst it is bad luck not bad angling. The trouble for all the people that want to play out their angling for a living is this comes with the territory- Schofield and the intern wouldn't even make pub chat if it was in a normal office.
This could have been Terry Hearn or anyone that puts in such effort for slim rewards, they want the very best possible photos - we all do, but if you earn your money by taking great stills and videos people will always question why you don't make releasing the fish as easy and stress free as possible with very good equipment to hand to capture the moment.
As others have said, retainers full of 20s and 30s plus rechucking a spare rod once in the net isn't good angling - it's greed, selfishness or whatever. I'd allow 1hour only to retain fish in a sling and absolutely no recasting rods until all fish are returned - worry about what you've got, not clicks, not £s or a bait deal. Enjoy it.
No hate here - and we all do things like these, where in hindsight we wouldn't have done the same thing.

Well said. I actually witnessed first hand last year a guy with 3 retainers and 2 nets, all with fish in them. God knows how long they had been in there but the worrying thing was he still had 3 rods out fishing!

It's a bit of a sad case to be honest and a real shame that the fish has died. It happens though. On one side I feel sorry for Eliot as nobody would wish this on anybody and he seems like a nice bloke. Nonetheless, no fish should be sacked for that long in the summer. Unfortunately, it seems like some pretty sharp and aggressive knives are being sharpened and from what I have seen they are pretty relentless! This will soon pass and be written off as another sad episode that once again makes carp anglers look like fools!

It sounds like this all happened last summer.. why is it only been bought to life now?.. people with alteria motives maybe??
Why has Elliott got to answer to anyone? There might be a hundred and one reason why this fish ended up dead..The only person he's answerable to, is himself. Like I've already mentioned. A bit of a none story if you ask me.

I can't stand Elliot or Jim. However this sort of thing is nothing new. I was on Pingewood when Terry Hearne had Jockey, sacked it for a while and it was dead the next day. We don't know the stress the fish have on them from the captures. Simon Crow wrote an article of a fish dying on him in a sling years ago.
Personally i'll never sack a fish, cameras are so good you can get a decent self take shot / video no matter what time night or day you catch them. There are korda videos with fish in retainer slings for 6 hours plus. He needs to come out say how long the fish was in the sack for and just put it to bed. The longer him and squeaky shelley are throwing accusations at each other the worst it'll get.

After this incident and a discussion on wording of the use of a net or retainier when retaining fish, my club is putting an email/facebook post up about doing night time self takes. It may not stop people retaining fish completely, but it should help.
Good thing about my club is most rules are common sense based, but the use of the word "retain" in that rule came about before retainer slings became a thing, and its wording is too vague. So I think the rule is going to be dropped entirely, with education being the best policy.

I agree 100% and it's a rule on my place that a rod can't be recast until the fish is returned. You can only retain the fish in the landing net while sorting out your camera as well. I deliberately don't supply retainer slings.

I think that people wanting to show off on social media etc has caused a demise in fish care.
Did anyone see the CCMoore video of a run recently that caused a few comments?!
Let's all be honest, any sacking or retaining of a fish increases the risk of harm or stress to some extent.
I personally don't see the need when you can take a perfectly good night self take with a 4yr old iPhone, a free timer app and a £7 tripod!

To be fair to Elliot I wouldn't want to deal with a 50 on my own either, the only time I have there was 2 other guys there and it makes things so much smoother and better.
Also sacked or not a 50 is usually going to be an older fish, u gotta remember that we are playing tug of war with these fish by their lips and when they finally are knackered enough and give up we take them out of the water. Just imagine a 60 yr old bloke w went to sit down to eat his dinner but instead gets a tongue piercing and legs it, while that's happening he realises someone is trying to pull him the other way, he's knackered then gets his head held under the water for 5 mins 😁.
Sacked or not there's always going to be the last guy to catch the one that died

Not expecting anybody to relate to this, but my last picture is about 20 years ago. At some point i started thinking this is all pretty sad and what do i have to prove to anybody. Maybe tomorrow i get my fish from some public lake near etang 5 and it will be back in the water in 90 seconds. Good enough for me😉

The accessibility controls on the iPhone have revolutionised my self takes, I learnt it from here and just say the shutter number and all is good, so easy and faultless. I now much prefer doing my own shots and would never ask a neighbour as they are so paranoid about cutting bits off they don't really fill the frame.
As this thread has now turned into a bit of a fishcare one - something I have done for years and try and convince everyone I fish with to do is
Photograph the fish before weighing - all the transferring - knobbing really frustrates me especially in the heat. The fish isn't going to lose any weight in 2 mins, the fish is calmer and you go straight from the scales back to releasing the fish. Why does anyone need to know the weight pre photos?
