Impossible. No one's that busy that they can't slag off everyone else's baits. I set a reminder on my phone each day and use a spread sheet to keep track. I've just checked and apparently I'm slagging of mainline at 8.30am.

Works a treat.

Bait is simply a bag of round balls that cost a tenner but are a necessary evil to catch big carp to some folk, to some it's a ball of sawdust that fits the price tag, to others it's a passion and a way of life

I don't mind the heated debates, I don't mind much, sometimes you need to thrash it out to get to the real points

Don't forget rigs, I mean, as carp anglers it's good to have a full section dedicated to rigs, let's face it, without them we would be totally ****ed, turbo Ronny German chodded up on a slip D bro

I get where you are coming from Joss. My issue with the current ‘situation' is that the people who have been the most helpful contributors are being pushed out and can't be a**ed to post anymore. People like Gav and Mark C (although he might just be living it up in Brazil) have successful bait businesses, hundreds of happy customers who actually buy and use their bait and plenty of real capture shots to share and substantiate the advice that they give on here.

If somebody new to the hobby is getting their heads twisted by bait then these are the people who they should be getting advice from.

In their place the void has been filled with ghost bait companies, regurgitated information that anyone who has been on this forum for any amount of time would have read many times before and fantastical statements about other peoples business interests.

If asking for some sort of evidence or reality to counter these claims is classed as goading then I guess I (and others) have been guilty. As it looks like we will never get there I will apologise and cut it out. It's not the forum members job to moderate Walter Mittys, but I think somebody should when real bait company owners are having to come on here for the first time ever to set the record straight.

Rant over, I caught my last fish on The Cell anyway, so what do I know

Interesting post, made me think about what you've posted. Very rare I read posts in the bait section because on the whole I have no interest in formulating my own bait and never have. My approach is simple, if the water I'm on is dominated by a particular bait I use it. If not my go to was always B5, often I would still use that on one rod along side the dominant bait. Some time ago I got to know I guy that made bait for himself and a few mates and it soon became obvious he was fanatical about it and was always studying the subject and is obsessed with it. He now has a small business producing a very small range of baits and is a perfectionist, doesn't advertise or do social media doesn't need the agro and sells all he can produce. Not sure how he would react if someone had a dig on social media and someone pointed him to it but hope he would just ignore it.

Hard & Soft sub forums?
In all seriousness I get where you're coming from Joss, personally the only reason I came on this forum was because there were questions I saw I could answer, and I enjoy helping people. one glance at my PM Inbox from a mod would tell ya that!

But if you come to a new place with a different opinion, it can upset people, especially if you're torn between getting info out there you think a paying customer should know, and not revealing sources of such information?

Im not going to rise to it this time, but even in this thread which is literally telling us to stop having digs at each other, there is a post with 9 separate little digs. wholly designed to bait me.

A quick look at your latest post shows that 90% of those made in the bait forum is attacks on Nick.
That's not contributing, it's just stalking.
You then wants to be the one who decides who people should be taking advice from.
In my opinion you and your friends are a reason a lot of great contributors to the bait section don't post anymore.

If you find something boring why don't you just scroll on by? Too many forums get ruined by over zealous, self opinionated mods. As long as people don't get too abusive what's the problem?

my job as a mod is to ensure threads stay within forum rules, be it im interested or not.

My point re bait posts of late have all turned into rows, and with personal digs at each other with abusive suggestions. Therefore has prompted my post. these posts are generally from small bait companies, puffing chests. they really should know better.

friendly debates, crack on, nothing wrong with that at all. im not over zealous in anyway shape or form, but im spending far too much of my time deleting abusive posts, where i could have quite simply banned the poster. this thread was designed to act as a friendly warning to calm it all down a tad.

im sure bait threads will be alot better off for it and therefore people would feel more comfortable posting.

As carp anglers don't we know that everything another tells us should be taken with a pinch of salt? We all mess about hiding our spots and telling half truths, etc on the lake to maximise our own successes don't we?
Same goes for here, provide the receipts for what you claim or people will not believe it entirely or at least be sceptical of it. As mentioned below you have Specialized Hookbaits that has a proven track record, and the advice mark has given on particle prep has proven to work by many members.
I'm all for exposing the truths around things, how many carp taxed products get exposed in the tackle section for example, but without the receipts it's only going to go one way, especially if it's directed at a specific company.
We've got to all remember that 100% of the time if we don't catch it's our own fault, not the bait.

it has indeed mate, but of late, its got a bit silly.

ive had countless pm's from people not wanting to contribute due to it. so if it effects the bait section, it needs to stop.

debate away, snide digs between small bait firms isnt good for the forum and it cant be good for their own business

Yes what a great asset to the forum.
Name calling, abuse, threats, false accusations and going into hysterics every time someone points out that has written something that is blatantly wrong. He has chased off more great bait brains than anyone else.

"Sweetcorn" Discuss

I'll bet most of the bait contributors could fall out over this.

I'll start, I love it on salad with a dressing also on the cob smothered in butter and always fresh never frozen and I dont mind it with a bit of mixed veg either.

But here is the question how do you like or prepare yours?

why prove the point being made here?

You acted exactly as you described, if not worse, about tank testing and your mate Dean did too when he claimed to have a wonder bait and people asked for the receipts.

Joss needs to start whipping out the bans, especially for people that come on a thread about not behaving like this, and proceed to do exactly that and launch an unprovoked attack on someone that has a proven track record for creating quality bait.

I was just talking to a biggest producer of sweetcorn half an hour a go and he said 5 min boil, quick grill and butter is the way forward, but butter needs to be uncut. I personally think sweetcorn is sweetcorn and saying there are many different ways to prepare it is just absurd

Point being that it was funny to pull Mark forward as an example in a thread about behaviour as he has gotten away with all the things I stated in the post, most several times.
Lots of people have proven track records but they don't behave like that.

I'm not sure you picking him out is entirely by chance. You have been intent on slagging off him and his business for a long time. A lot of those behaviours come off the back of people like yourself attempting to discredit the proven track record for some reason.

Once again, why are you taking a thread about not behaving like this and behaving like this?? You hear Specialized hookbaits and can't help yourself eh Living in your head rent free ain't he

I like it, somebody should start a chain of sweetcorn restaurants with various ways of preparation and toppings,
loose in a basket with diced crispy fried bacon and mustard and honey dressing or grilled on the cob with fresh crusty bread covered in salty butter and spices so you can wrap it round the cob and glaze, endless opportunities.

I didn't use him as an example of being well behaved? You clearly quoted me saying that he has the receipts for his baits as he has a proven track record and his particle prep was the receipts from members on here. I used him as an example of being able to back yourself up.

you literally quoted what I said

P.S. sweetcorn has to be done on the cob, soaked in sugar and salt water for a day or two then on the bbq.

You are correct Bluebeat, I am in Brazil currently. I came back a few days ago for three weeks... Promised the missus I'd be here for her birthday this year. Work is running smoothly without me there... It's 07:41 in Brazil... I have a little gander at the forum every morning.... This morning I see I am getting stick from the usual suspect 😂

Before that, I've just been so busy making sure everything is okay for whilst I'm away. I've had no time to post on here at all. Got tonnes of recent captures I could post... But making things busier is not the one right now. We have to stock the Tackle Box and Fish-On Tackle shops when I return. Plus the new hook baits to go on our website which we have only been selling via special orders up till now.

We are busy enough as it is. Can't make the stuff fast enough.

No not on sweetcorn although I do disagree about only on the board. Love it melted over a rare fillet steak, in a quiche, with ploughman's. The port only comes out with the cheese board after a few pints of doom bar. Isn't lager supposed to be served with a dash of lime for the lady's?

dont do port, stilton only has a place melted over a steak. real mans cheese is the mighty cheddar, broken off the block and eaten by the fistful and washed down with Guinness

You're absolutely right. I've had Guinness in Dublin and it's lovely, in london, not so much lol. However some of the English stouts are nice!

Agreed on the blue cheese bar one exception, when I ate meat I used to love blue cheese stuffed in a burger! It does go up a few pong levels though.

A favourite cheese was always beuvale, there was this little cheese shop in Northampton that gets some unbelievable cheeses in, as well as vine wrapped fig balls which is basically a very sweet spreadable fruit gloop....

Glenn, you must have the answer, the best Guinness I have had
was in a pub in Dublin, it had a very long name (about 5 words) it
was always packed, one night it was about 3 deep at the bar, I
had to mouth my order, pass the cash to others and get my drinks
passed back by other customers, but it was worth it, SO....
what is/was the name of the pub.

Only ones I remember are, the temple bar and neary's, went in loads that couldn't get to the bar just hold up the fingers for however many pints and they would get passed back by customers and like you say cash went back the other way. One I use to go to South side at the top of a hill, think it was the fox did sea food and often had a huge basket of garlic muscles with a pint of Guinness.

Gotta love the butchers in my local farm shop, now that's a bait spot I just can't ignore. Pork chop with the fat and rind still on and kidney in, inch plus thick lamb chops, black pudding triangle shape cut as thick as you like. Oh yeah back on track the cheese department.

Love the farm shop butchers and deli, oh yes cheese and olives, is there a cheese with sweetcorn in it, probably not.
Anyway can anyone recommend a red wine to go with a saddle of venison.

More false accusations here, Pinocchio?
If you are gonna lie about someone at least get some of the facts right, it makes it more plausible.
I sold out of the carp bait years ago, I have no gain from trying to harm your kitchen operation.

Thing is the farm shop near me sells all that I need bar stuff like washing up liquid, laundry pods, pharmacy stuff. It's also cheaper for me than the supermarket as I can buy the exact quantities I need and the quality is superb so nothing gets wasted. Even veg that is not in season can be bought frozen and you scope the amount you want into a bag. Unsure about how to cook something ask and they will advise you exactly how to do it. The only thing missing is a fish mongers but on Friday a mobile wet fish and seafood van sets up in the car park.

T ive learnt a lot from reading what you put on here, never personally had a conversation with you and i only check on here a few times a day and i know for a fact a certain 2 members, one starting with a V the other an M (not mozzi) only show up when you post, gives me a headache when im trying to take in what you're writing when that pair start trying to discredit everything you and others say.

i have opinions about bait, but I'm smart enough to realize 99% of the people who post on here know more than me, so i sit back and normally my opinion has changed after i read the facts Facts dont give a toss about ya feelings

I'm the same but what i do know is carp will eat their own **** a lot of the bait threads are full of **** written, so on that basis I'll stick with sweetcorn and cheese, I cast my first cheese pate wrapped hookbait out in 1978 I've used sweetcorn since a year or two before that I've used baits with cheese powder, cheese flavors sweetcorn flavor , there's not a lot more to concern myself with, I love cheese I love sweetcorn job done.

Lies over lies, at least you got a vivid fantasy. I am quite happy without selling carp bait or having a name, that's why I sold my share of the company and moved on. I have plenty use for enzymes elsewhere.

And since you started to the name-calling:
You're too small to be an ogre, buddy, there is rules there
Also, you don't live in my head,. I assume you live in a hut with six mates and a tall bird.
Are you Grumpy or or possibly Dopey?

Enzymes are a genuinely interesting road to go down and some of the conversations were interesting.

It's clear neither of them like the other all that much, but again, I reckon clean slate and some of Joss booze and cheese and they'd get on.

Both are passionate about bait but take different routes

Both work in the industry from different perspectives

I will buy you both some cheese if we can all promise to behave like Joss wants. He's going grey with the stress of being a mod and being rich x

I don't really Scozza.......I choose a bait I like the smell and taste of which has no relevance to what the fish can smell or taste.....like I say most baits are all using the same ingredients anyway.......yes quality can vary for each but I don't care about that and do not believe it makes one bait FAR better than another......

Choose ya bait and fish with it.......simple.......

Disagree completely a set of ingredients is a set of tools, you can make a masterpiece or a mess same as anything else. There are baits out there that use fewer ingredients in a smart and efficient manner to produce decent but not amazing bait, and others which are a waste of ingredients because they're out together without experience.

Same as baking a cake,

It's not about ‘stopping'. I've stopped with this freak over and over again. It does not matter how many times I stop... It does not matter that I do not visit the forum for two months... This freak will always START again. Do you ever see me starting it? The answer is NO. Think you need to read the thread again. This is likely the 10th time out of no where this freak has gone into one about me or my business. No one on here is ever going to stop him. He'll carry on till I can't be arsed to even look at this forum anymore, let alone post anything.

Apparently it's totally fine for some noddy from Europe to lead an on going attack against me and my family business, over and over again.

And If I have the gaul to defend myself... I'm jointly portrayed as the bad guy? I've let it slide so many times and ignored it... But there comes a point when enough is enough.

I'm off to enjoy the rest of my holiday, one thing is for sure... I will not be looking at this place again, because it just makes me sad. There's a few desperate wannabes on here constantly causing trouble. The root of it is jealousy. The better me or certain others do, the worse it gets. I've seen others being targeted recently, so it's not just me. But it's a common theme on here, with the same suspects constantly.

Never argue with a soppy mug, they will just drag you down and beat you with experience. It's about time I learned that lesson and stuck to it. Me coming here just makes things toxic. I am only here defending myself right now, and I'm getting sick of it.

Tchau all.

Your not becoming one of them Freeman of the city of London are you?

I worked with a fella who had that title bestowed on him. He was a massive bellend aswell..

Gave him the right to take his livestock over London bridge if he wished, apparently..

It's a bit like arguing with a 2 year old. Pointless, and it just makes you look stupid. Just try to ignore the stupid jibes. If they want to crap on the floor and stamp on it to draw attention to themselves. Just smile and walk away.

Of course you are completely right Mark. It just gets a bit boring, that's all. I was on my period yesterday. 😂

It will never change, so it's pointless even looking at it.

It's involuntary, the little worm in my head takes over and I've posted before I've got the worm back in check. Having said that I do remember you breaking a few bivvys in short time some years ago.

Same as joss, my dogs have always been family members.

Before her i took a 5 year old black lab bitch that was local to me in after her owner had died and was told by his son who didn't want her and also the kennels where she was that she wasn't a loving dog, how wrong could they have been she was one of the most loyal loving dogs that i have ever seen.

It broke my heart when i had to have her put to sleep a week before her 14th birthday, it took me 3 years before i was able to get another.

Sorry for going a bit off topic

Its better to read a post like that than some of the drivel on here.I have only had one dog when I was younger,it broke my heart when he passed,I have toyed with the idea for a few years now but so far have resisted.

You've never met me, I looked you up after you said I had because I didn't want to be rude, deffo mixing me up with someone. I actually have all the bivvys I've ever owned, all in working order, as I frequently introduce people into the sport and lend them things until their budgets can afford it.

Had two Labs a chocolate KC registered bitch from a local farm and a black lab bitch bred by an old gamekeeper who'd been breeding labs for 50 years both bought as shooting dogs for flushing/picking up etc... I was told not to have a chocolate lab for shooting as they are too head strong "how right they were" but I knew it would be a deal breaker with the wife so we had the chocolate one Jessie first she was adamant we were not having a dog of any sort soon as she seen her it was a done deal then six months later we had the black one we named Bell.

Lost Bell the black one first she picked up a virus in the Brain woke up one morning and she was fitting and frothing at the mouth, put her straight in the car and off to the vets where she was still fitting and within ten minutes she was gone best gun dog ever and was doing it until a year or so before she passed at 11 years and six months old, Jess the chocolate one we lost November last year it was one week before her 14th birthday absolutely worthless as a gun dog but the most loving loyal dog of the two she just wanted to sniff lamp posts and eat.

It was comical on walks on call back shouting out Jessie - Bell had some looks from other dog walkers

Chocolate labs are only about a fraction of a percent different to other labs, unfortunately that's in the intelligence and patience department lol

TBH I'd love a lab, but I'm firmly of the belief we should be adopting dogs not buying puppies and you rarely see labs up for adoption. I also adopt on the basis of trying to pick dogs with a lot of needs / tricky to rehome because these are the dogs thst usually end up back in the shelter if it's not done right.

No bad dogs just owners or so they say. Would love another dog but my waters don't allow them which is annoying as I was recently offered a one year old ridgeback that was the last of a litter.

"I'm firmly of the belief we should be adopting dogs not buying puppies"

I totally agree if your buying a pet especially following covid where people were buying dogs thinking it would help with their boredom or get them out of the house for walkies when in lock downs then realising the dog was surplus to requirements when they had to go back to work and it was at home locked up all day ripping the house to shreds.

I was buying them nearly 15 years ago, 'different times' for a purpose to train from puppies into adulthood as a working dog it would of been no good adopting a two or five year old Lab and then finding it it clears five fields at the B of the Bang or didn't mix with other dogs on the shoot, both of mine were working dogs it's just the black one outshone the chocolate one tenfold she was very temperamental, some days she had her working head on others it was her ****you head and she'd clear a drive chasing a squirrel before the guns were on the pegs.

working / guide dogs are a bt dfferent and cant always been trained from adoption hence why I've started supporting lucys bowl at events wih raffle prizes.

One thing rescues could do is anxiety / therapy dogs. I'd love to set up a charity that focused on retraining rescues to be therapy animals. I've seen the difference they can make.

a trillion percent true mate, yes dogs can have a certain breed nature but its about management of that.

patience, love and companionship is all they need and I don't believe anyone has every in the history of the living organism regretted having a dog for any other reason that the immense grief of them passing on.

Mate i have a English bulldog and they are 100% stubborn little fekkers, nothing to do with how you bring them up.

Previously Rottweilers and all dogs have certain traits you cant change, but you can definitely have a impact on how they interact with people and other dogs.
