Is it just me or is the Korda podcast boring now? I am a fan of Rich Stewart and especially his interviews on Cyp. He is obviously very knowledgeable and knows his history, but for me his Korda Podcasts are not working. Maybe the fact that Simon Pitt was not an out and out carp angler made his chats go off on more interesting tangents or is it that the calibre of guests since Rich has taken over have been poor or too Korda-centric? I'm not anti Korda and their podcast used to be the one to beat, but I think that mantle is now held by the Baitworks guys and the Nash podcast..........

Yep. I totally agree. For a long time I don't think I missed a single one. Driving around in the van I'd listen to them from start to finish. Since the relaunch I've maybe listened to two or three at most. I simply have no interest in most of the guests these days, with very few exceptions. Perhaps it's an age thing for me, I'm 50 and a lot of the earlier guys were my era and waters that I either fished or followed with interest. I haven't heard of half of the new guests, which is probably why I think I've listened to Mr Fairbrass, Spooner and Dave Gawthorn and that's about it recently.

I don't mind listening to almost anyone guest wise and a lot of the time the less well known anglers have more interesting stories that haven't been heard before or do the kind of fishing that I can relate to more!
However, the fella that does the interviews now does so in what I'd describe as a management style, he interviews like he's just done some sort of coaching course or something, it's all very structured.
I used to really like this podcast and listened to all of them start to finish, I now end up getting bored of it and not bother finishing them!

The most recent Clive Gibbins episode was the best after a slow patch. I liked the Alex West one. Could not give a monkeys what Neil Spooner or any of that crowd are doing so I skip those.

I'd have to agree, I hate to say it but I don't look forward to them as I did. I think all carp podcasts are boring now. But they had a short shelf life anyway as you can only say so much about fishing.
Simon had a different interview technique as he didn't approach the fishing straight away he tried to get to know the person.

I just find the questioning far too loaded. He obviously knows what the answers are going to be and he puts the answer in their mouths for them. I like Rich, but I agree it's not working and I've stopped listening to them now.

Totally agree, especially re. the Nash podcasts. Hassan is great and having the likes of John Timmermans and Martin Bowler only makes them better

He may have great knowledge of the Carp “Scene” and it's history but I find it a bit condescending when he interrupts people to put insignificant facts right or adds on to the end of a story with a fact about a particular fish or lake etc.

im totally the opposite....I think Rich has massively improved it. His knowledge allows him to interject and draw out more information. I loved Simons podcasts but have binged listened to Rich recently and really find him a far better interviewer.
Big thumbs from me but understand everyone has an opinion.

I'm actually glad to see this comment to be fair, although I disagree I was worried it was becoming very negative towards him, and I actually like the bloke, just don't get on with him on the Korda podcast for some reason

I second that. Rich seems like a top chap, but for whatever reason he's not clicking on this podcast. I def feel he needs some better guests. People a bit more off the radar??

Trouble is all the best off the radar guys are also fishing off the radar waters. So my guess is they are difficult to persuade to make an appearance.

I like him. Just seems like a really decent, knowledgeable bloke and does his best to get real depth from the interviews, which may not be to some tastes but it is to mine.
Simon really was a hard act to follow, mind. And Hassan is also great, his interview with the Don is genuinely funny and changed my views on the Don.....clearly foolish, but very funny and upbeat.

I listened to every one Simon did, no matter the guest. I think I've listened to 2 with the new bloke, I don't know. Just doesn't have the appeal for me anymore. Also, I can't get out my head that he sounds like Rob Hughes and I can't stand that bloke.
Ine bit of praise for the new bloke though. In the ones I listened too, he always makes effort to explain what's happening/pictures to people who are listening. That was my only gripe with Simon was occasionally they would be talking about a gift they brought it, but would never explain what it was. I've only just started to listen to them and must say enjoyed both Jon Timmermans and Dave Gawthorn. One which I think would be entertaining would be Rob Maylin, especially if he was talking about Savay

For me the issue (and similar for other pods) is it's mostly just another middle aged white man talking about the good old days and how they went after named fish. Feels like the history review has been done to death. Plenty of other topics and interview approaches they can take rather than just discussing a persons biography. Plus how about some diversity in guests?

Agree to a certain extent, but the White Male thing is unavoidable as that's the people that go Carp fishing in my experience, very rare to see anyone from another demographic doing what we do.
The format of telling us about how they freelined side hooked spuds, then were the 2nd person on the Hair Rig blah blah blah has been done to death.
Maybe some guests that are talking about the more modern Angling (not bloody spinner rigs etc) that's going on or some of the venues we don't here much about now days like Raduta for instance would be great, maybe a 3 pod series with a certain angler that has a specific Angling style, that way the interview is broken up to early years, development of their tactic and so on.
I'm sure the Gardner Podcast was trying to go down this route but seems to have stopped now for some reason which is a shame.
Maybe it's not just the presenter in this instance more a mixture of the content not evolving and the presenter not being too inspiring making a perfect storm!?

I only have the Baitworks, podcast on auto downloads on the app these days, I like the format of presenting the guests are usually not so high profile but have been there and got the t-shirt I enjoy listening to the stories that you haven't necessarily ever seen in print or can see what the angler has had for dinner on Instagram for the last ten years.
I occasionally watch the Nash and Korda ones now on YouTube if the guests are of interest.

The same as the Carpcast podcast, i use to pay for the plus subscription when i reality the free one was better, in the end i got fed up with Jamie constantly slagging off jim Shelley and Nash.

See I really enjoyed the CarpCast, although truthfully never subscribed as I only found it around the times it started to get a bit hit and miss as far as releasing episodes went. I very nearly joined when they did their 'comeback' and promised 40 episodes that year 😂
I suppose it must be graft putting these things together, and if you really aren't feeling it then you won't be producing good content. I also can't fault Jamie for much rather spending his summers across Croatia and Ibiza 😂😂😂

There is the odd gem popping up, but it's already rather "samey". There needs to be some variation in content rather than the same old "I fished X and caught Y"
I may be in a minority, but I'm not really fussed what a salesman caught from a circuit water. Give us the ordinary bloke who manages to "do it" here and abroad whilst also working a trade six days a week. Those are the people I look to for inspiration, or those who are doing it for the adventure rather than the accolades.

Which really means, they chucked a bucket in the swim behind their mate and bummed aboit a bit waiting for them to leave.

One of my favourite anglers has always been Julian Cundiff. Working at a court in Yorkshire, fishing around work and his other interests, and still catching a few. He may not catch the biggest fish, but still catches.
The majority of full time anglers, with a couple of exceptions admittedly, I just switch off.

I agree that the same sponsored anglers telling the same stories is not worth listening to. The issue with getting the everyday guy on is that just because you can catch fish, doesn't mean you have any charisma or colour as a raconteur.
The ‘local legends' on the Carp Chronicles has been an example of that, fair play for trying to spotlight some unknown guys going about their business and catching them but I've not made it past half way on any of them. They have been dry as a bone. I switched off the latest one after about the 5th time he referred to the late 90s as ‘back in the day'
Maybe the podcast thing has just run it's course. Not the end of the world if it has.

I never listened to the baitworks untill recently but have been binging and really enjoying them, to me they have the feeling of the early Carpcast podcasts. My only criticism is that they keep using "ironically" incorrectly, and saying "pacifically" but that's just a personal peeve, I can live with it

They like to say “That's a bit of me” and “Is that a bit of you?” On the Nash podcast. I've heard it said by various fishing plonkers on YouTube videos also. It's beyond stupid.
Obviously there's the classics “at the end of the day” and it is what it is. These also get combined to “at the end of the day, it is what it is”. This particular phrase is a virus that seems to have affected around 80% of the population. They'll be people reading this that say it. You know who you are.

I recently reread his book Big Water Carp, Jim Gibbinson is very dry, brilliant humour, and a very good angler. I loved his articles, and I think he foresaw what angling has become.

I am listening to it now. I started on Brooklands as well my dad took me there in 67 and taught me to fish. Caught my first carp there in 75. I remember as a kid watching the carpers hitting twitchers with their rods 4ft up in the air. Pick up the rod ,take a pace back,and then strike so it sweeps back behind you. Of course I didn't know who they were at the time.

I thought the locky episode was superb. Id heard that albert wasnt good again but didnt realise he'd been back in hospital.
So after I originally posted this topic I did feel a bit bad for Rich Stewart. The latest Lockie and Gary Newman episodes have been better but still not tip top. Having listened to Nash's latest with Nigel Botherway I'm convinced it's more about the calibre of guests rather than the presenter. Much as I'm a fan of the Baitworks chat, (despite the regular mauling of the English language!), the recent guests have been unlistenable for me. For a guest unless you are a natural raconteur, like Pete Regan, you need to have something interesting to say, like John Baker or Simon Scott. Simon Pitt was so good as a presenter because he came at the chats from a non-angling standpoint.

If Hasan stopped saying 'mate' every 5 words, it would be watchable. At the moment, he drives me nuts doing it. He also simply spends most of the time agreeing with the guest and telling them how great they are. Not great.
I preferred Simon on the Korda one, but still quite like Rich's style, at least he challenges the guests. The Dave G and Lockie ones were excellent in my view.
