You can definitely improve ecological conditions in any water body if you trap enough. I've proved it, scientifically. I bought 1000 American minnow traps and 1000 large mesh traps. After some changes to the traps they were deployed in a large river. The AMTs were designed to trap babies while the larger traps caught adults and juveniles. The most I caught in one day was 4200 adults over about a mile of river. We really made inroads in the population and the benthic macro invert pop surveys proved the conditions were much improved against a control stretch. It was hard, messy work but it proved to the EA that their advice about trapping making things worse was very wrong. If we hadn't come out of Europe they would have had massive fines to pay in 2027 under WFD because of the crayfish.

My first take last night took out both the others. I refer the members here to the original question.

I'd appreciate some advice please. I've got a really good spot going in an ocean of blanket weed. Takes are coming pretty frequently and the fishing is very enjoyable. A good top-uo follows every session. The big problem I'm having is the baits are fished so close together, all three within 15yds on a line 80yds from the bank, I'm losing fish by picking up the other lines. Recasting always disturbs the swim too. How can this all be avoided? I'm backleading behind leadcore on a slack line but the bottom on the lake undulates considerably.

Mate, you are taking about pituitary (GtH) from the endocrine gland, used since the late 80s to induce spawning in cyprinids by injection. Nowt to do with the stuff we are on about here.

Come on lads, call it out when you see it. It happened on a local lake and nobody stood up to the guy, including the owner. In the end the lad got wind and didn't come back, calling everyone childish and jealous. His insta-entourage backed him up.

The Kev Ellis Asylum ii vid describes eDNA, a process of testing water to ID species within. Its used all the time in ecology and development. No longer need to catch/not catch great crested newts. Just test the water and discover. I'm not sure if hormones can be discovered or not via eDNA. I'll find out but it's certainly not what it's made for. The test is to find DNA shed by organisms not hormones.

I think when you realise the damage being done using hormones, you couldnt take a flippant view. It could easily destroy what we know as today's carping. Maker could have been a fantastic advocate against its use. Absolutely perfect. Instead he has doubled down..This isn't going away. Its easy to buy, easy to apply and the results are absolutely devastating, in more ways than one.
It is easily detected though. If someone comes on to your lake and catches in impossible circumstances, again and again, it's too good to be true so chuck him in.
