Ace i3 alarms and receiver - ahead of their time and most top alarms still don't have all the features these did

The previous version of ESP joggers - the newest version of these are terrible. Go all bobbly after a couple of washes. The previous model where much better and lasted me years.

It was fairly standard CSL with a little bottle of "part 2" which most people accept to be a product called "phytase".

My understanding of its demise as a bait was that either the Corn Steep Liquor or the Part 2 was live enzymes so prone to exploding in the bottles when shaken up in transit or in the post in warm weather which made it very difficult to get out to the shops, and virtually impossible to a non commercial address.

I can remember that Bristol Angling where I got mine from said the Post Office had refused to accept it anymore.

There was a cartoon in Carpworld showing a bloke trying to hold a storeroom door shut as the stuff was expanding and pushing the door off its hinges with a caption something like “live enzymes be buggered, I'm not risking going in there again”

I think it was also the time when readymades were getting more prolific and anglers were going for the easy option.

I have a pair of Shimano 8000 XTEA
that I use on my Barbel rods AND !! got the amazing Felindre Dragon Washers fitted !! that makes a brilliant clutch an awesome clutch

the XTEA range gears were the best ever made!......... apparently due to production cost ?? they changed the material made ( or was it because they wont wear out ?) along with the fact they have 7 bearings make them a rolls royce of reels IMHO
miles better than the new range unless you can spend out on their Thunnus reels that are amazing reels

Edit - I believe these were the XTE, I had a set, wish I had kept them but I sold off my small water set up

Other than sentimental value, can't say there is much I miss if I am honest, it's all replaceable. Tackle and equipment has progressed a very long way, the only thing that grinds me is the extortionate prices and everybody trying to make a killing out of the pastime, new model, upgrade 5 because the got it wrong the previous 4 times etc etc!

Reels are a classic for me. Had my infinity's for near on 20 years and loved, them, faultless. Looking back great big dirty things with a clutch that took forever to adjust and a crap line clip but other than that bullet proof, I can't imagine the bling f today lasting anywhere near that long without wanting to kind of cheap plastic cove that either costs a fortune or is phased out so you have to upgrade

They are churning reel models out left right and centre now, based on a 20 year life, what I guess us anglers want, I wonder what the reality is!!!

I have XTE super baitrunners on my small water set up, they are lovely.
I have aero gt 8010 on my barbel rods and aero 6010 on a few small rods.
All have been changed to single handles so they sit better on the quivers, and they look better

That's when JC had it. Some serious fermentation going on with that. I kid you not, nearly blew my hand off with that, had a tin and the lid had seized on with all the gunge, was showing my mate in the garage, couldn't get the lid off, after a good few minutes twisting a dull bang, seriously hurt my hand and wrist

I stopped using it, some serious bloodworm attraction going on, I had 14 tench one evening and the were all decent sized fish, crazy!

i had one of my best french trips ever using those tins. I was fishing just a golf ball sized amount of pellet/bloodworm mix and a tiny pop up. Virtually no other bait. Caught right through the whole trip.

Before covid I spoke to Jake Wildbore on the Sticky stand at the big one and tried to get him to pester the boss to re-release it. He just laughed and said no chance!

Hell of a product. I kept mine in the airing cupboard. I would 100% go straight back on it if they could release it in the same form.

My guess is that some sort of alien hybrid bloodworm has been created in there by now. You open that and it could be the end of mankind as we know it. God knows what that many years of fermentation has created. I strongly suspect that's where covid came from.

The flask is different gear, hydrolysed bloodworm compound if I recall, basically they left some bloodworm in water, had it analysed for what signals came off and them replicated it and bottled it.

This was a long time ago just as Eric's angling bought them out.

The “Xs” green boilie was a crab and spirulina number Eric's used to sell.

Sam ( current owners brother ) sponsored me in my second to last BYCAC as funds were tight and by far the best product of there's I got my mits on was two hookbaits, a pastel orange peach and pepper and a red scopex and butyric one, ridiculously effective zig baits. Believe they were called aviators.

The flasked compound stuff for me I used to mix with the bloodworm pellet to form a very sticky mix ( it has blood powder within the pellet ) and Jim Shelley later called it tarmac I believe. Once it solidified you could put them in the casting ground bait pouches and send em to Mars!

The fermented bloodworm was in a screw top tin. The bloodworm replication was in an aluminium flask type bottle, never rated that myself

The XS was a hell of a bait, I knew some who used it, average anglers started catching everything.

Richworth Tutti's a great bait for me and badly missed I caught my first 40lb plus in France from a tricky venue on this bait. Not discontinued as many alternatives available but none even close to the original
