I see so much gear up for sale on the face book selling pages which state never seen the bank or used once with the reason that they are upgrading?
How can you upgrade if you've never used kit or only once?

Its obviously BS. I saw an advert a few weeks back exactly the same thing about a set of reels that had seen the bank once yet the handles looked battered and there was paint chips all around the reel seats. Half of these muppets must think you were born yesterday.

Only used a handful of times is another and they want 90% of the new price, see a set of three reels today that you can buy new for £1500 but seller wanted £1350 NO OFFERS, you'd be made not to buy new with the knowledge that should you have any issue you would the the receipt to take them back to the shop.

Someone keeps listing a ridgemonkey bait boat on ebay, used once. They want £650 for it, you can buy it new for under 500

Someone near on a local facebook page had a "used once" tempest with all the extra's with it and wanted £1200.
Comments underneath said that you could buy them all at full RRP brand new and it was cheaper... apparently was selling for a friend who wouldn't drop the price
Now a days i generally give away or swap my old gear (beds, bivvys etc) they have served a purpose for me and if it helps a new person get more into the sport its all the compensation i need.

Granted a lot of the time it could be BS and people over valuing their kit but I personally have sold equipment that has GENUINELY only ever been used once. I dont fish much and often buy kit on a whim, only to decide that it isnt quite right for my circumstances when I do actually go. There are still some honest people out there....

The one I don't get is people buying something brand new, deciding they don't like it then selling as new at a loss. Why not take it back to exchange or refund?!

Agree with this and have also done the same . . .currently have an Actor Plus that I'm probably going to sell because after using once I don't actually like it . . .not all people are full of bs . . .

Weird thing for someone to get annoyed about. Better to get annoyed by the countless other irritations relating to selling on Facebook.

I've got a brand new, genuinely unused reel for sale on here. Now selling it to offset an overspend on a new boat purchase. I'll take the loss as it wasn't planned, things do happen sometimes.

I got back into fishing this year after a layoff and made some mistakes which cost me - Sonik Vader reels and CTX rods for example both terrible products that I'd only realised once I'd used them, so they went as used once.
When I was looking for replacement stuff there was also a lot of people selling up because they didn't like fishing so there was the chance of some belting buys out there.
But I rejoined a forum instead and looked to see what others were using and so far so good 👍

i have 2 Cayman bivvies in the loft that have never been used .... I have various sets of rods that have only been once .... not looking to sell any, as bought when on sale and hope to use in the future .... i dont think its uncommon for stuff to have been unused/used once etc and then be sold for variety of reasons

I'm the same. I have about 3 sets of gear just in case my brother or son or nephew want to come fishing with me. Sadly my brother emigrated to Australia and my son lost interest in fishing. I guess my nephew will get it all when I pop my clogs. I'll never sell it.

Agree with this as I am probably going to do the same with my Deeper. Used once and it really isn't for me so don't want £200 of gear sat in a cupboard so will prob sell at a loss. That said I fully understand where the op was coming from looking at some of the crap being sold and pushed as new or nearly new

Its gets me as well..... Mint condition, only one small burn in the ground sheet, and two missing pegging points.
Translates to.... stove went over, I panicked and jumped up and ripped the pegging points out

I couldn't agree more. I recently sold a Tempest V2 Air Utility front & groundsheet on Ebay and I think the chap was surprised it had never even been out of the packet.....skull cap went too (new)....must be a lot of micky takers out there though for people to be so sceptical.
I also tend to buy when something is too good to miss, the last example having sat in a box since Feb 19 after a house move. 3 Shimano X Aero 4000, thought I'd try the double handle...hmm. Took 1 out this year, put it on my Greys Floater rod (again rod not seen light of day for years) and guess what...yep...I can't stand the double handle, so 2 new and 1 like new.....unless I can be bothered to find a single handle replacement.
Also done the used once in France quite a few times, fickle bugger me
EDIT, also found a load of PVA stuff bought from a show for...yeah..JIC...wonder if I'll get away with only used once for that

I paid a crook by the name of Dave blackys Custom Rods over 1600 notes for a set of four custom built Harrison trebuchet lights.
He forgot to put the line clips on and clearly forgot to mix his epoxy evenly as tip rings where spinning on the two rods I used having not chucked further than 40 yards.
I got a friend to see to the tip rings but to be honest with the lack of skill that dishonest man used Im waiting to get them rebuilt by someone more reputable.
So essentially I have four extremely expensive rods, two used once, two as new lol
If they didn't have personal decals which are sentimental I'd probably have sold them as blanks to a rod builder.

I've sold lots of stuff that has been used once or never used. Normally things I have bought online with the intention of fishing somewhere/a different style which never transpired or simply didn't like. Most recently this was a pair of unused freespirit CTX and a ESP stalker. I have a few other bits here to flog at some point.
Whilst I agree some people are taking the piss, there are some genuinely barely used/unused bargains.

How long ago was that? I had a similar issue with a set from him, returned them and got my money back, wast an easy process though. I did start a thread on here in relation to my issues. Was a while back and cant find it now, not sure if threads get deleted after a certain time or if that thread specifically got removed

Unfortunately in these times it's all about supply and demand, I've just bought a brand new car for 7 k less than a 2nd hand version of same car as I'm prepared to wait.

What I find annoying to say the least is ads selling tackle that they clearly know nothing about with lame words like been out the game for a while what are these worth! Obviously stolen tackle, then there's the sellers that want virtually retail price for what is regardless of use 2nd hand used goods. I don't get why people for a few quid more won't buy new and get the cover that comes with a new purchase. Unless a second hand item is a 3rd off retail at minimum I wouldn't entertain paying out for it but for some odd reason people continue to overpay for used or 2nd hand tackle.

These so and so reels retail at 185.99 each grab a bargain at 130 each....yeah, no tackle shop has ever had them at retail. Shimano xta big baitrunners is one of the ones that always stand out. Seen em as low as 95 quid each at times, people trying to sell a set for 450 quid.
