Hi all,
Just seen this advertised of social media, bit like gousto for fishing.
Loads of fairly reasonably priced pre made fresh food to cook up on the bank. May be worth a go for longer sessions as for me I'm terrible at thinking of nice meals to make.

It's laziness and you're paying a premium for the convenience, it's nothing that couldn't be put together with a bit of thought and five minutes spare.
I saw the advert and all the stuff about being so excited you forget about food is rubbish, carp fishing is hardly a strenuous activity with lots of periods with lack of activity, there's always time to eat if you want to, the sponsored anglers implying you don't need to go shopping is rubbish too, you still need to go shopping so May as well pick it up yourself!

Just another company jumping onto the online convenience band wagon. Whether this idea has traction only time will tell.
I noticed they've got Scott Lloyd on board. Not the best social influencer. Dont think I've ever seen him eat anything hes cooked himself on his social media feed. Surprised Deliveroo haven't signed him up a long time ago..

Only looked at main meals as wouldn't bother getting anything else. Just have porridge for breakfast and make a sandwich or something for lunch. The dinners look okay though IMO. You're paying for being lazy which I am when it comes to food on the bank.

See I think they are as much of a rip off as the rest of it. And it's not really paying to be lazy as all they do is give you ingredients. You still have to make it. Makes no sense imo

Pretty much the same as hello fresh, but the food is for pan cooking. I've used hello fresh before, only via discount codes, and it's pretty good, especially as there is no wastage, so I get the idea, but it's quite a niche market, so cant see it being around for too long

Be good if it was well cooked pre prepaired meals that came in a foil tin the right size to be put straight in a ridgemonkey.
Also, the website only has options for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch and dinner are the same thing. Where's Tea?

Bejesus!
Are anglers able to think for themselves?
Is coming up with healthy food that hard?
I shop for myself, it is absolutely no problem to put food in the basket for a fishing trip. In fact I did my shopping today with that very intention.
Dried pasta, some onions, garlic, bell peppers, take your pick of colour, red, yellow green. Mushrooms, baby sweetcorn.
Dried herbs, either mixed herbs or basil, oregano and marjoram.
The hard part is the meat, a couple of pork bellies, maybe some diced beef or lamb fillet.
Boil the pasta, leave covered while stir frying the meat, add chopped onion, baby corn, mushrooms, garlic and chopped pepper and some herbs. Drain pasta, pour into pan with the rest, stir through and eat, either from the pan or onto a real plate.
One dinner, real simple, real easy, healthy. Can be perked up with a couple of slices of goats milk cheese, or even shaved parmiggiano. Or even try a country swap and go for a French roule soft cheese on the side
As for breakfast, I currently have a love of Chocolate chip brioche dunked in coffee.
Lunch, a sausage, bacon or egg roll.
I have even cooked steak, saute potatoes and mushrooms, fried obviously, but with a small amount of smoked paprika and ground black pepper added to the pan as I fry the steak.

I think that's an unfair statement and not really comparable, everyone has differing skill sets, experience and time to dedicate to the hobby. In today's world of social media, it's the easiest way of asking a question and gaining knowledge. I can tie a chod rig with my eyes closed but I hate tying rigs at home and often don't carry a kettle, as I don't use them often, I have a pack of pre tied in the bottom of the bag, it's laziness and convenience combined.
This food thing is completely different, they supply raw ingredients at a premium. You still have to cook under the guise of you wouldn't do it otherwise, it's total ********, we all go shopping, we all eat and we all cook when we go fishing for a prolonged period.
If they were supplying great fresh food in vac packed sachets that you only threw in a kettle to warm through, that would be a convenience in many ways but they're not doing anything we can't and don't already do so the idea hasn't got kegs for me.

Having someone telling you what swim, what bait and range is hardly gaining experience, finding spots and working things out for yourself and learning from your mistakes will help far more in the long run.

Surprised (or rather, sadly not) that so many people seem to be getting genuinely offended by this. It's an idea (not original, but not claiming to be) and the team seem to have done a good job on the website and marketing. The prices are also not extortionate as many are claiming. It's basic supply and demand and I wouldn't be surprised if those involved can make a reasonably honest living out of it.
As for the “sell out” sponsored anglers involved. Get a grip! Suppose some of you would prefer them to claim benefits like some of the “realest” anglers out there.
Anglers trying to make an honest living with a proven business model. If it's not for you, leave them to it.

So 35p for 3 then, plus the convenience of having it in a recyclable bowl, and the cost of that bowl. I'm not saying it's cheap, but it's not pants-down expensive. 99p for a healthy convenient breakfast is ok money - we've all spent more on worse breakfasts.
Convenience comes at a price. If you don't understand that I'm all ears to hear about how you roll all your own bait, because there's far bigger savings to be had there.

I really just find it bizarre that someone would buy a portioned breakfast for £4 from them that you could just buy everything from Tesco's and split into portion packs yourself and freeze for a quarter of the price and five minutes of your time.

Wise words.
Although if there is a market for this it will do well, if it will fail. It's not hurting anyone, if you don't need don't buy it, if you do then buy it. Simple really.
TBF it's probably healthier than the stuff i eat..

Jesus Christ - what the **** is coming next in this carp game.
Had to endure photos over the last 5 years of bogging cups and spoons because apparently it looks carpy (whatever the **** that is) from bank tramps. Would rather drink a brew out of my boot that one of those things.
Now we have Fink Food with every "superstar" promoting it across social media. These folk would sell their own kids for a bit of media exposure. Only one real angler not showing his colours, good old TH, gone underground for the past couple of years apart from the odd ESP video.

But putting 3 weetabix from the cupboard in my foodbag together with a bowl from home is just as convenient and costs a fraction of the price....
In the grand scheme of things it is absolutely pants down expensive.... 11p per weetabix from your cupboard or 33p from Fink Food.....convenience doesn't cost 200% more.

Fink... Or Fick?
I look forward to reading their business accounts in a couple of years. I suspect they will do quite well for a few months before even the sheep realise things are a trifle expensive.
Home delivery is a proven business model, but these prices are more Fortnum and Masons than Tesco.
And Fareham will get it all stuck in that beard anyway.

You are correct, to a degree, but it wouldn't surprise me if they paid no more than 25p a pot, that's still a mark up of 400% on a pot, and that is high volume stuff, with this, we are certainly at the moment talking low volume, so the mark up doesnt surprise me one bit.

I don't know where to start with all that is wrong/daft about this as a concept - but maybe googling Fink Food before going with it as the brand name would have been an idea (there's already a company with virtually the same name - so getting a good search ranking is going to be interesting from a marketing point of view...what's the betting all the individual packaging is all plastic too - so not exactly a good environmental story either...

Hi guys. I've had an amazing idea. It's called fink ****ter. We all know the inconvenience of carrying a whole lol roll when we might only need a few sheets for a weekend. Plus the aggro of actually tearing off each sheet as you use it.

Pm me to set up a direct debit. For £3.99 I offer a text messaging service to remind you to take a **** in case you are too dumb or lazy to remember.

Sounds about the going rate, as I said it's a quid for a single portion of porridge in the the supermarkets, our canteen at work charge 80p for single portions of various cereals, and that's subsidised, and that's without milk.
This is all low volume stuff, so the mark up has to be more so they can make some form of reasonable return on them.
Obviously this model actually works, well the dinners work, as there are multimillion pound companies out there that work on the same model. I've used hello fresh in the past, and it's been really good, everything you need with zero waste in terms of food.
Everyone can moan all they want, but they've seen a gap in the market and gone for it, good luck to them, if it works it works, if it dont, it dont, it's not harming anyone

Of course they are not going to get away with the same mark up and charge £4 for a pot of ready made porridge oats when they are £1 in the supermarkets....same goes for anything else of that nature......cans of beer, fags etc. I suppose therefore they are relying on people being dumb and not realising they are being ripped off for things like cornflakes and weetabix as that is where they are making money....
If they target the idiots who pay £2 for a "sample pack" of 10 boilies from eBay they will be millionaires next year....

They are charging near enough the same as my work canteen for cereals, people could bring their own in, but you know what there are people who dont, and still buy the cereal, it's not carp anglers it's just normal people, if they didnt like the price they wouldn't buy it.
I really dont get your angle, considering the mark ups we pay on things like boilies, and terminal tackle.
I get the idea, it currently works, and makes alot of money, I would doubt they will sell many of the cereal options anyway, but it's an easy win for them to put it down as an option in their portfolio, as you never know where it can go

Just shows many carpers aren't anglers or they would realise they are being angled for by these companies, looks like one here has been hooked.

How on earth is a dry bowl of cereal 80p and it's subsidised? Even those tiny little variety cereal packs don't work out anywhere near that much, and that the most expensive way to buy cereal (other than from this mob)?

Because its a canteen, your 80p has to pay for someone to clean the areas, top up the stocks and wash your bowl and spoon.

My "angle" is them re-packaging a brand product at a grossly inflated price....but that is a pricipal thing for me...still, if people are happy to pay a premium for such products then that's up to them.
I would rather just take a handful of cornflakes or 3 weetabix from the cupboard and put it in my food bag....there again, I take a pack-up to work so perhaps that's just my mentality.
As for longevity of the concept in Carp fishing I just can't see it and will be gobsmacked if they are still going by Christmas.....There's probably 95% on this thread who think the same as me judging by the comments so if that is replicated across the board they wont last long....

I think they would have to expand into the camping community for it to be worth while, doubt it will make alot of money, but might have the potential to keep a couple of blokes ticking over. What's more worrying is now I'm seeing hello fresh adverts on here, big brother is watching 😬

Doesn't sound overly subsidised then . When I did some work at the bank of england print works in debden I used to get a 2 course meal with an XL fizzy drink for just over £2. Which to me sounds more like a true subsidised canteen

The thing is, we are on a forum. An internet forum, in 2021. Most modern carp fishermen have no idea what an internet forum is, and 90% of carp fishermen use facebook to ask which flavour goo they should use out of the 20 they have taken with them, and and how many wraps from peg 3. The concensus on this thread has very, very little in common with the modern carp fishing £.

I've had an amazing idea. It's called fink ****ter. We all know the inconvenience of carrying a whole lol roll when we might only need a few sheets for a weekend. Plus the aggro of actually tearing off each sheet as you use it.
So for £11.99 I am will to post you twenty sheets of the finest Andrex already sorted into single sheets.
Ignoring the exaggerated sales price this product literally exists... in several guises. Handy packs of tissues, done by Andrex. As a couple of others have said (although not many) I really don't understand this thread. Assuming, though, that all the critics wouldn't ever buy:
- ready tied leaders
- company-made leads
- ready made boilies
- day tickets
It's an interesting thread but those commenting “3 weetabix for a quid!!!” can save it. It's been established there's bigger mark ups in fishing tackle. I dare say a single pack of pre tied leaders is costing you more.

Paying for convenience. It's a slightly over-the-top example but it rings true - there is superb free angling out there for the thrifty carp angler, of which there seems to be many in this thread.
Personally I fish day tickets... because I can't be bothered with the hassle of finding these lakes. Do you get my point?
Anyway I've probably said enough. I think this is a good idea, one I won't be trying, but that caters for a specific market of which (given the negativity) this thread clearly doesn't represent. I still say good luck to them.

But I'm not debating mark-ups, I'm debating Fink Food taking someone elses product, re-packaging it and selling it for 200 to 400% more under the banner of "convenience"...... would you pay me £30 for a kilo of Boilies if I provided them with the convenience of being ready-glugged so you didn't have to do it yourself?
Yonny's comment about sharpened hooks is a good one but that is taking a hook, putting in graft to make it better and selling on a superior product.
Yes ready-tied rigs and leaders are similar in terms of convenience but there are Anglers who genuinely prefer these, they either struggle to tie them or simply cannot. My mate is as blind as a bat and can't see a thing close up therefore has to use ready tied rigs....he can still get a weetabix out of the cupboard though...
Granted, there will be some who don't mind paying the extra and that's up to them..they will be the same ones who pay the Bait Room £40 for a pot of pop-ups no doubt....

But convience is a product of sorts, and theres a massive market out there for it. People wont just order a couple of weetabix, I can see this for anglers who might want to do 3 nights for example, and order maybe 2 portions of cooked breakfasts one cereal, 3 dinners etc etc, all you are doing is paying them to take the hassle out of it. It definitely wont appeal to a lot, but it will appeal to some, if I was on slightly better wages I probably would use hello fresh more often, one thing I hate doing is chucking wasted food out, which I inevitably do each week, with something like that you dont have any food waste, and they are quite healthy

I'd also just add that, yes, the 3 Weetabix is probably the most controversial offering. However, the business isn't the 3 Weetabix Company - they have a lot of very convenient and portioned fresh meals. It's easy to focus on the extreme, but a lot of the dinner meals make far more sense financially and from a point of convenience.
Anyway why do I care so much
As said I'll never buy their products. I just think the market's there and the business is getting some unfair stick.

Tbh no I dont get your point when it comes to day tickets. It's a pretty terrible comparison ! You can't really compare as each water is different, therefore meaning that it's perfectly reasonable to charge a different rate for each water, whereas a bowl of Kellogg's cornflakes is the same product wether you buy it from Tesco of from fink food. It's just one charges considerably more for the same product.

My comparison wasn't between day tickets and their varying costs, it was between day tickets and free-to-fish waters. We all know there's amazing fishing to be had for free across the U.K. (look at Alfie Russell). My point being a lot of us can't be arsed to find, travel to, or fish these waters, so we pay for the convenience.
And yes, I can certainly believe someone would pay 70p a breakfast to not have to buy/wash a tupperware.
Anyway I've said my bit I'll leave you to it. I still think the business will be around a year from now.

You seem to be quite defensive about this company are you an investor. There might be similar companies delivering meals to people's homes as some people might need the service (elderly)or just suits their lifestyle to have their meals all ready for them but I can't see how you think this is a good idea or will take off.Surely if you have got time go fishing and are physically able then you can get your food for fishing whilst doing your weekly shop

Let's face it. Once you've set up and got your spots sorted and baited etc there's an awful lot of sitting around. In other words plenty of time to throw something in a pan or on a bbq.
These people who need someone to prepare basic food for them, are they not capable of picking something up when they buy their 48 cans of Stella and 60 fags for the weekend?
Do you think their mums still dress them?

People order from hello fresh and gousto etc because they lead busy lives and getting home from work, dealing with kids, cooking their dinner before getting a chance to sort their own out takes a lot of time in the evenings. It's a fantastic business model, just the same as Joe Wicks with his lean in 15 quick meals.
There's two elements to this fink food that they've pushed.
1) you don't need to go shopping
2) portioned meals and structured meal plans.
Let's pick those apart.
1) as adults and humans who eat food, every single one of us will do a shop of some description, even if it's stopping in a petrol garage for fuel on the way to lake, so it's hardly a chore to throw a pack of bacon, rolls and stir fry into the trolley (£10)
2) regarding the portioned meals, you can either buy packs and portion and freeze at home (maybe an inconvenience) but you get x4 for your money looking at their breakfast option. Structured meal plans... again, we're all adults and even the most basic and lazy of us can pick up a decent ready meal to warm up in a pan with minimum effort.

To get to the shop you need a car, parking money and need bags and a list
Genuine Query
I had a look at there website, and from what I can make out
is that they deliver to only a hand full of fisheries and a few tackle shops
So you can order and go to the tackle shop to pickup your order of food,
So why not go to a supermarket market instead ? More choices
I just can't understand that ?
Unless they deliver to many more places?
If they had a setup with say Uber or deliveroo, or something similar,
then to me that would work quite well,
And be a good setup In my view,
Example,
I'm down engey now, on Uber, I can order a shop from Asda's down the road, and it would be with me within 1 hour, any meat, milk salad, most things in Asda's
If they could do that, it would work much better,
But only delivering to only your home or a hand full of places, I honestly don't see the point ?
Unless I'm missing something?

I had a look at the site out of interest and to be fair nothing seems overpriced. Especially compared to a garage. It does seem a daft idea given the location of people fishing and is mostly processed garbage though
If you have a primitive palate and live on ****, don't like being near people unless they work in a tackle shop or don't know how many beans make 5, I'd imagine it's dead handy

I'm with Spinbowler - one massive rip off which has pushed carp fishing a little bit closer to the cliff edge.

The comment you made below and frankly awfull, im glad you now have a different view.
They are many people whos situation might call for a service like this, if its not particularly interesting for you then leave it at that next time please.

I thinks it's fair to say that a lot of people have had to admit that their first impressions of Fink were wrong, including me! I see a lot of their stuff on the bank now and have eaten it, and was very impressed.

True, True....
You would hope so anyway. I'm similar to you not for me personally but can see the use of it to some.
Plus you would scream if you did a hazard analysis of my bank side food hygiene

This has just cracked me up. Utterly hilarious that anyone either thinks there is a viable business model in this, or is daft enough that they dont have the imagination to make their way to a shop and buy some food to cook. I mean come on... If you are really that bad and planning and buying food either ask your mum or do food tech at school, its a basic need not an angling brand to buy into.
Korda is my litmus test on this, if DF thought there was a market here he'd have nailed it with a product line called 'Kooking'
I think I am starting to sound like my Dad!

Can't say I've changed my mind.
What a waste of money, I'll stick with buying and cooking my own food from scratch.
This week was meatballs in tomato sauce, onions, mushrooms, garlic with marjoram, oregano and basil with fusilli pasta.
Couple of beefburgers topped with cheese in brioche buns.
Couscous, tin of tuna, onions, mushrooms, pepper with cumin, coriander, chilli, and ginger.
Three nights dinners there!

Meal prep services are common place now, no surprise there is 1 in fishing. People like to pay for Convenience

There clearly is a viable business model, as they are a trading business and by all accounts doing pretty well out of it.
I wouldn't use it, but if it helps some people then what's the problem?
My Mrs says she can't cook. I do 90% of the cooking, but I work long hours so we just started getting Hello Fresh 3 nights a week. Turns out it's not the cooking, it's the thinking of the recipe and buying the correct stuff that she stresses about. Give her all the bits and a recipe card and she's good as gold. Plus it works out pretty cheap for decent food.
If this Fink thing is like that but for dopey fisherman I can see it doing just fine.
Nick, a tin of tuna with some cous cous is not a dinner

Brilliant .. made me laugh that has.
If I gave my Mrs a recipe card I'd get told where to stick it .

In my opinion, the concept is an encapsulation of how utterly ridiculous the whole carp fishing ‘scene' has become. Why anyone would need to use this service is completely beyond me. Everything from the name to the fact the company are trying to claim that they are focused on sustainability is stupid.
A handful of cornflakes in their own little cardboard container wrapped in plastic. Jesus. I honestly can't cope with it.

I guess the same distain for the ridiculous could be aimed at someone who gets so emotional about what other people eat and where they buy it from, no matter what the pastime.

What's next? The perfect number of squares of toilet paper for your carp fishing poo in its own little packet. Maybe for the premium subscribers, Scott Lloyd will swing by and wipe it for you.
I'm not emotional, I just think it's stupid. X

You do realise this idea is already out there with companies like hello fresh and gusto dont you? All this is is just the same idea marketed at a different audience. The fact that those 2 companies alone turn over hundreds of millions, should suggest it might not be as stupid as you make it out to be.

Hello Fresh and Gusto are more aimed towards Yuppies who work in London, doing 18 hour days and don't have the time to slice a cucumber to go with their falafel.
You're paying premium prices for someone to do the prep for you and then deliver it to your door. That's all it is.
I'm not going to slag the concept off, it serves a purpose. However I still enjoy the prospect of stopping off en route to the pond to buy meat to slap on the stove and a couple of tinnies to blend in with the unwashed. it's all part of the fun.

Not sure what happened to it. But if it was sold as a going concern we no doubt would of seen it all over social media. I think Scott at the time said the reason for shutting it was it was taking up to much of his valuable fishing time. I think we can all relate to that one. Luckily he was in the position where he could do that.

It was a good idea in theory but I imagine the reality was quite different. Loads of regulatory/food safety hoops to jump through and managing fresh ingredient supply chains is difficult at the best of times. That's before you realise the costs are incredibly high when you're not buying huge volume. Fair play for giving it a go, but I can see why it didn't work out.
