Does anyone know the range of the new fox mini Microx X?
Carpology did a youtube video on these alarms on youtube, they mentioned all sorts of features, but not the range. I think this is one on the most relevant things to point out in a video, so the fact that they didn't show this in the video makes me think that it might be poor....

if its 20m then its a no go for me. not because i go that far, but my tent is often behind bushes on on an elevation. If the range really is 20m, that means the signal is too weak for my type of fishing.
The reason why they didnt state the range on the website really worries me.

I really can't see Fox only having a 20m range, they've always had one of the strongest and most reliable receivers, even my old MMXR'S went further than that 15 years ago lol.

I like the longer ears too, always thought they should make them longer, my only criticism of fox alarms, other than that, been very reliable for me over the years

Their basically prologic SMX in different clothes.
I've got the standard ones. Good little alarms for day sessions.

I think it's fare enough, I recon most alarm manufacturers would say the same. The RX+'s are top of the range and price, so one would imagine a superior receiver strength compared to the mid range Mini Micron X, hence being more susceptible to vegetation, height, distance etc. I have been a Fox alarm user since the original MMXR's and would confidently use them, unless you are casting out then going home to wait for a bite, the receiver would be good in any sensible fishing situation. Only one way for you to find out if any alarm on the market meets your requirement is to buy a set and try

it does make me wonder how that can do an alarm for £55 with so many features put a question on what are you getting for the extra £120 on the rx micron

It is a good question though. Both the RX and the Mini Microns apparently have ‘D-Sensing' technology. Is there actually any difference between them apart from possible longer range?

it only takes a few minutes for 2 guys to turn on the alarms and walk in the opposite direction then stop when there is no signal, Fox could have done this just so they could give you an idea of the range.

Then again they may prove to be a great budget alarm like fox budget alarms of old but of course no tackle tart will dream of owning them as being cheap they won't have the kudos of the big profit margin high end alarms, some of which I hear don't like rain but that's OK because the customer service is great

I'm waiting to check them out, I was hoping the MX alarms would have had the drop back tone when they were launched, but sadly no. I love my RX's but these will do what I need, have the features I like with half the size and weight too

exactly, the rx plus is ridiculous and gives confidence. Obviously you would never been that far away but i guess the knock on effect of having a super stronger signal is that it emits further

It's easy to check range of alarms. My 'cheap' optonic g2's have a range test and they were £120 for 4 about 4 years ago..... would I be more confident using my ntxr or g2's. Tbh they both have great range and both indicate when I get a bite so there's not a lot in it. Yes the ntxr has a better range but who wants to be 200m plus from their rods...

I had the HD5's and sent them back for refund... poor build quality and felt cheap. One of the alarms kept dropping out of range with the receiver even though they were in the same room with brand new batteries. I was massively disappointed and had no confidence in using them.
They are not a patch on the Ace alarms.

Build quality wise seem decent, not amazing and definitely not in same league as the new Dells, but seem solid. Not as shiny as they looked in some pictures.
Functions all work well, only criticism are the tones, not brilliant, assuming the speaker is an area they saved money on.
Also no night mode.
They do go LOUD though. Can't test range as didn't get the reciever. Going to be giving these as an xmas gift, but really good bits of kit for the money.

I think it's just the plastic lens being a bit fish eye and distorting the colour slightly. Only really obvious on the low brightness setting when indoors and close up. I'm sure it will be just fine when on the bank.

Easy to set up, four sensitivity options, lowest is a bleep every 3cm and highest is a bleep about every 5mm.
Four LED colour options, LED brightness options, 7 volumes including mute, four tones.
Low battery warning led on alarm and receiver, battery check whenever you turn on the receiver.

Must be lower quality materials i thought that when I've seen videos they seem cloudy. Having said that 178 quid for a 3 rod set from poingestres isn't breaking the bank so we shall see...that is if i ever get to use them lol. .

Receiver a little more plasticy and basic, just one button, plus the pairing button. Just like all Fox alarms, set up is easy, the same as always been done. Alarms and receiver feel tiny compared to my RX, which is what I've been waiting for. Silent on and off, again normal with fox. No anti theft if heads are turned off when the receiver is on. But as said these are a budget mid range alarms with good functions.

Pulled the trigger on a 3 rod set for £180 on eBay on Friday night. These will be replacing my original MK1 delkims which have the add on RX2000 transmitters - after many years service!
Am looking forward to something with more modern components and that look a little more visually appealing!

I'm using a set for 6 weeks now and can't fault them what so ever!
Tried the range and i went as far as 50m away from the heads in a non fishing situation.
Signal is powerfull enough imo, as i'm never further away from the rods as 10m anyway.

Got them and had a play to get some idea of the range. Obviously new batteries in heads and receiver.
Clear line of sight between alarm and receiver - still working at 195m measured before running out of road.
Obstacles between alarm and receiver - 4ft thick laurel hedge, 2 parked cars - measured 80m still working fine.
Across 30 m including 2 trees, some bushes, ping pong table (folded) dog kennel (without dog) + concrete wall - still working fine.
I'd say the range is more than adequate.

What do the people that have purchased these think of them in general? My only niggling concern is that they look a bit cheap and plasticky and maybe not built to last long...

I would say the heads look and feel ok, buttons and switch seem positive, battery cover is a good fit. The receiver does look and feel a little cheap, but then again it's not going to be sitting out there in all weather's. My only gripe is the LED's on the receiver could have been bigger and brighter, or have a fish eye lens to enhance them. At the end of the day they are only mid entry alarms.

Out of interest do they hold the settings so if you put the heads on silent volume setting will they remain like that necmxt time you turn off and on again?
Out of interest do they hold the settings so if you put the heads on silent volume setting will they remain like that necmxt time you turn off and on again?

Second the Jag aligners or Chunky "O"'s from Thinking anglers or probably most DIY's there alright for alignment although they do perish and not locked up as tight as Jag kits but they work alrightish.
I always liked my Fox Skypod bars as you could keep the alarm in place and tighten the locking thread to it same as the adjustable collars on the solar bars.

There's a knurled collar on the thread of the alarm that you can move half a turn to fix exactly that problem.

I have hard plastic adjustment ones the rx come with ill use them to get it solid, but still doesn't mean they all be same height on buzzbar thats my point. Although talking half a millimeter here lol

How are people getting on with these?
They certainly have good features like colour adjustment, led brightness adjustment, beep for beep from head to receiver and tone sync from head to receiver all in a small package.

I took the plunge and got some of these. One odd thing I have noticed is the sound on speaker of the alarm and receiver if you listen carefully with one beep you can hear it come on it sounds like a walkie talkie channel if you know what I mean?

I really like my Mini Microns!
Using them for nearly 4 months now.
Only minor thing is that the battery level on the receiver is very low already.
I fish about 3 nights a week, but still very quick having to change batteries after 4 months.

I reckon so. If you have your alarms switched for 72 hours per session my arithmetic makes it 1296 hours per battery in 4 months. Don't think you can complain at that.

I didn't notice it on single sticks, but this is now second set of bars I've tried them on (summit first time and gardner now) and has been same issue on both.
I'll try some electrical tape on the thread and see if that helps.

As below, good alarms.
I've probably done 20 nights and days, and the receiver is still showing batteries at 'full' level.
In real life, on the bank, the receiver range is over 200m.

Excellent so far.
Be sure they are turned off before you fit the hard case cover. It would have been good it they would designed the cover so it'd only fit when the switch was in the off position, but again the anglers are the field testers, eh...
I use a girls hair bobble to make sure the cover doesnt come off in my rucky, but if you have them in a buzzer bar case then not an issue.

It went a bit croaky then stopped working altogether. I assumed I'd left it on, so confidently whipped the back off and changed the batteries. No such luck. Dead. Waiting to hear from the place I bought them from re the Fox 'warranty'. Fingers crossed.

I've used these in some of mega storms recently and still working fine, fingers crossed just a dodgy one for you and doesn't happen again. value wise, could be best on market. sensitivity still an issue if its really windy even on lowest setting. I had rx+ and they are a different beast, just downsized to save some money. i dont think any other brand matches fox right now on the alarm front. RX+ best out there and micron x best value for money.

I had a set of three since they came out. I sold them today to a mate for £100. (I paid £170 trade). At first I really liked them. But I've gone through a set of Duracell in the receiver. And a couple of weeks ago one would not turn on. I had to take the batteries out and give them a twiddle, then it suddenly worked again and has been fine since. Maybe it was nothing, but it worried me.

I bought a 2 alarm set recently. When I got to the Trent and put the batteries in, found the receiver volume did not work.
Reported to supplier but they seem to think it's not a problem. I also bought an additional alarm to make it a 3 rod set but the additional alarm would not sync with the volumeless receiver.
I bought another receiver and the additional alarm sync immediately but the 2 rod set ones dont sync with that receiver.
Looks like Fox do something with the settings for the sets which kind of makes them useless should you develop a fault.
Not buying any else from Total Fishing Tackle ever again! Lost £179 as they wont replace or refund!

If you have a dodgy set then go back to the retailer and ask them if they've ever heard of the sale of good act and if they are familiar with consumer law.
Tell them they are unfit for purpose and you are rejecting them and insist on a full refund.

What's the battery life like on the head units on these. I'm trying to decide between these and Nash Siren R3's.

No local tackle shops had them in so I bought the mini microns, used for that session and was going to keep them but bought the RX+ set over Xmas. The mini's seem a nice little set and probably the best value for money set out there right now.

I alternate between my mini microns and my mini micron X, only really using the X if im sleeping as most of my fishing is short sesh.

Every alarm beeps drop back or normal run so as soon as you get a drop back it makes a noise get up and look at the alarms like the rest of us? Most of us actually look at the alarms when they make a noise I don't need a tone to tell me it's a drop back

Spot on, so many times I've been woken with a liner and not bounced out the bivvy as you know exactly what's going on. My mates on the other hand are often racing to their rods just in time to see the bobbin settling back where it started. It tells you far more instantly.

I'm using swingers (much better than bobbins) with a sensible counter weight to suit the conditions, as anyone should.
