I think the best thing they done in a long time was when Mr Peck done a tour of Germany, Holland and a couple of Publics in France.

Well worth a watch then you might be pleasantly surprised, big foreign waters, not always well known.
For some, less annoying now if your not a fan of Ali. The dynamic changed last series, don't think they'd yet settled, be interesting to see if its changed again on this one.

I think it's brilliant. A lot of effort goes into it. Free well produced videos so it's always welcome

funny enough just recently I stumbled on an episode and watched it and was just the 2 of them

I don't dislike Hamidi as a person, but I found the show unwatchable when he was on it. I watched a few since he has gone and enjoyed them far more than I expected. Its just fishing based entertainment, I wouldn't go out your way to watch it, but if its on, give it a try.

I think you have to watch it as a prime time family entertainment show with fishing in it, rather then a fishing programme.
My Mrs will happily sit and watch Monster Carp with me, and (debatable if good or bad) it got her to come a on a couple of weekend sessions after she watched them.
It does grate on me at times but i just mentally turn off to it now. Where as i watch some of the cypography stuff and it has my mind spinning thinking of things and how to apply use in my own fishing,

Thought it was quite entertaining. Started watching them from series 1 after it and the first season was cringeworthy to say the least

Tbh, I didn't like that one, souless springs to mind not only from the fishing aspect but also the presenting, I thought Dovey looked bored and I think that came across. Still, looking forward to the next one, onwards and upwards!

Also couldnt watch it with the big ego in it .There was 1 or 2 subtle digs at small persons syndrome hamidi in the last series as well .Knew it was coming as these subtle digs have been made before about his persona .Patronising jumped up little jerk

I enjoyed last nights episode, probably because I've wanted to fish for SA Commons for a very long time. So nice for a change to see lovely undamaged mouths, no need to angle those away from the camera!

It's almost become soulless, unless you can find your own piece of heaven.
Monster Carp is better without Ali Hamidi, but I think that it needs a longer break, or even calling time, it's becoming soulless itself, just a search for 75lb or bigger fish, which is possibly why Tom Dove looked bored.

I agree with the ending, my 9 year old even commented on it. I was looking forward to the SA episode but was very disappointed. It passed the time but nothing more and that trip and country could and should have so much more to show than they did. Missed opportunity

I'll be honest I didn't really enjoy this one at all, seemed pretty boring even Neil and Tom seemed bored.
I do enjoy monster carp normally just feels a bit forced and rushed this series so far, the ending was ridiculous

I have watched both of the latest series,if these were the only two I had seen I would not bother again.I was really looking forward to the SA one and was very disappointed.There seems to be something missing and they are not as enjoyable to watch

Ali might be a bit hyper but at least it's not all scripted unfunny jokes like it is now. The show simply isn't as good with just the two of them. Needs someone else in the mix imo and it looks like they feel that way too..

I think it'd probably run its course. 8 seasons of them sitting in a swim next to each other waiting for who gets the next bite. Its bound to get old pretty quickly.

I have always enjoyed watching these and mrs d has been known to sit through an entire programme and get amorous afterwards

what is this thing where your fishing at long range and you have to run into the water to strike your rod ! is it to make an exciting shot for the camera ? as i just dont get it ...makes me wonder have i been doing it wrong all these yrs ...alarm goes off you strike the rod put your life jacket on and get in the boat wherever its parked and even easier when you have a guide controlling the boat
as its not to keep there line out of the water as they are using 2 or 3 backleads which again i didnt understand why pin several hundred meters of line to the bottom through christ knows what on the bottom and then drop your lead on the take surely you have defeated the object with the backleads
then why do both of them go out in the boat to land the fish again good for TV ? but who's On the rods when there out have a jolly landing the fish especially as there were lots of Animals roaning around on the bank

I think we see the natural progression of carp fishing. Reduced to winding in large carp from soulless venues, with a very limited degree of ability or necessity of thought beyond move swims. . You can clearly see the anglers are bored stiff and bereft of ideas, hence the ridiculous attempts to create some interest from side stories.
Absolutely zero challenges other than an ability to cast a long way and a bit of rain, no variety, and exactly what the future holds if Embryo, and similar commercial fisheries have their way . Jesus it's all very dull and I fully suspect we have seen the last of this series.

I think the monster carp shows are diluted of the technical stuff due to the fact its on ITV4. They need to appeal not only to carp anglers but others who dont necessarily carp fish or even fish at all. If they went into too much detail and technical stuff then it would bamboozle most of the viewers and would probably be rather boring for the viewer. If you want technical stuff then monster carp aint for you.
At the end of the day in order to keep it on ITV it needs to be entertaining and thats where the side stories come into it. I dare say ITV have a big say in what type of content they are to show to keep it on their platform. Its probably quite the challenge for the guys not to talk too much about the finer details and go into too much technical stuff.
I personally love watching videos and carpy content but its all very samey, so i think monster carp is actually a breath of fresh air and something different to the usual, lets face it most of us like to have a laugh on the bank and seeing others do so is a refreshing/entertaining watch.

Got to say the gold crocks and the statement at the end that no bullying took place in the making of this film had myself and the good wife laughing loudly. As a previous reply mentions if it was 2 carpy cool guys being serious and to cool to have fun then there would be no veiwers and the show would not be on mainstream tv. Although its far removed from my own angling i do enjoy the boys poking fun at themselves and at leasts its more enjoyable than most of the other negative stuff on tv.

I think it's becoming a parody of itself. Got to admit I now prefer the thinking tackle original shows, even though they were basically adverts for korda tackle products

It's important to remember the two anglers are actors in a plot devised by the producers. They are doing what they are asked to do , it's a job that I doubt they can not afford to do. I have no doubt their personal fishing is very different. The problem is the dull uninteresting format is down to the producers. If you have ever met the producer it's no surprise to me . Dullest individual ever. It shines through in these films.

Exactly this. People take it well to far lol. It's free fishing on mainstream tv they have to appeal to everyone and have a laugh along the way.

Tom Dove is the executive producer so I'm guessing he's involved in the planning...
I mean, it's not Passion for Angling but it's fine - passes the time when I'm cooking dinner. I happen to like their chemistry on screen. I also liked it with Ali.
I feel as though some of the responders here have been personally hurt by the programme. Lighten up!

I watched the 3 episodes on catchup I quite like it apart from as I said the very silly last few mins of the African one where it might have appealed to anyone below the age of 8 years old I guess ?

they both just use the spinner rig it seems ? if I were to criticize is its not spontaneous and Im sure a lot of funny stuff is cut out and the clearly rehearsed stuff isnt really funny

I think you're right on a lot being cut out. These two are really good friends, ITV and the world being the way it is now, will cut out anything that could mildly offend.
Having carp fishing on the TV can only be a good think like you say, but being mainstream they will have to try and appeal to as many non fisherman as they can otherwise it won't be on for long

In my youth I worked in the film industry for just over a year Stage hand at Shepperton film studios
then got offered a job for a company that provided the location mobile changing rooms which we towed their and went out with the crew at night and often the actors too
this was great fun
and a short commercial can be 4 hours of filming they edit it chop it about these washing clothes adverts make me laugh dont know if they are still getting away with it today ? but they just run it backwards so the one thats spose to have been washed is the one just out of the packet BEFORE they made it dirty lol

My point was purely agreeing with the previous post, there is probably a lot of stuff cut that is hilarious, however isn't able to be shared in today's climate, and some stuff left in that is less funny but unlikely to offend anyone.

I saw the church and a big smile came across my face, didn't even hear the blabber. Really enjoyed it, didn't know it was the last in the series, still footies back soon.
Not sure if its still on youtube but there's a great vid from back in the late 80's iirc, might be Maddock, low water levels wading through thick mud...
Ps, the South African episode, I'll have to buck the trend, wasn't keen on the safari Flamingo but the Lion and Zebra had us both laughing, the Mrs had tears rolling down her face, so bad it was good, hints of Monty Python,...

Ps, the South African episode, I'll have to buck the trend, wasn't keen on the safari Flamingo but the Lion and Zebra had us both laughing, the Mrs had tears rolling down her face, so bad it was good,

I see they were wearing the new Korda waders,I don't think there is going be anything left that Korda don't sell soon.I have got to admit their gear is very very good and so is the customer service 👍

It was very noticeable that Spooner was living in those waders that session. In regards to the episode, I enjoyed it far more than the others this series

Seemed more honest to me. If they'd gone and emptied the place I'd be thinking they'd had swims saved, baited etc but it seemed an honest show. Overall I've enjoyed the show from watching them back from the beginning but it definitely has a shelf life due to expire soon

sadly I never got round to fishing it I have seen some amazing footage over the years by some of the anglers that fish it
one of my favourite people that fish it is in the LINK I POSTED BELOW (( post 62))

I think as a company they are spot on. Also the new compac Sling has been a few of their videos which seems to have gone unnoticed. Exactly what I was after, mesh based. Bought the nash one recently, Neil said the release is a long way off

Really enjoyed the final episode. Felt like a proper fishing challenge. A good send off to what has been 8 seasons of great fishing entertainment.

Yeah I kind of feel that may be it for ITV. I think monster carp will continue, but I think more likely to be on YouTube or the like. Possibly only on ITV X or whatever it's called now 😂

Got to agree. I think they're doing it the right way, very calculated, not releasing for releasing sake, quite impressed TBH.

They also don't do videos of new items until they're ready to be released,ESP are the same.Fox do a video and the item can take months before it's in the shops

A non angler wouldn't of had a clue though and it's not rammed down your throat.They could easily turn it into a product advert but don't which is good imo

I had a facebook argument as I am sure when Dovey respooled he was using their new bucket thing the reel of line was going at a rate of knots lol

Sometimes it can backfire of course. Got round to watching the Gigantica and Croatia episodes and couldn't help but notice the awful noise Dovey's reel was making!
