I'v been researching power barrow conversions of late, one purveyor of these has a video on youtube, from one of those "promote something different every week" type of channels, I saw they had recently introduced a range of high end luggage,
among it was a small "barrow satch" that you can hang on the barrow, or wear over the shoulder when parading around the lake,
It' a handbag, carp fishing will be like ladies day at ascot soon, It's becoming a joke.

Only if it makes money.
We've all probably been gullible at some point over the years but I think enough of us have learned that we don't need OMC wrapping paper.
Who's going to buy it? I wouldn't buy it for the missus and she wouldn't know it existed so wouldn't buy it for me.
That leaves gullible anglers buying presents for other gullible anglers, I'm not sure the market will be big enough.

But how are they even going to see this stuff? No bloke is going to buy it.

I will say though, as much as I like the pattern, I can't justify the 130 or whatever it is on the puffer, when Navitas have released one half the price and if that's anything as good as the rest of the Navitas gear it will be quality

Most marketing strategies work on small percentage hit rates and this is no different.
For every 100 readers of this thread, the vast majority will take the pi55, have a good laugh etc. A smaller percentage will visit the website out of curiosity and then an even smaller percentage will either make a purchase ( possibly not wrapping paper though), or have more awareness of the company and it's products for the medium term.

But surely the larger percentage who take the pi55 will cause more damage to the brand than can be offset by the sales of a small percentage that buy from a small percentage that visit the website.

It's December, it's cold and many lakes are frozen, what else is there to do. The thread is about wrapping paper and it's staying on topic.
Just an idea but let the dozen or so get on with it and the others don't contribute as it only prolongs the life of the thread

"Talk about thinking this forum is a major player in carp fishing"
What makes YOU think 'the forum' thinks it's a major player?
The forum is just a platform, like Facebook, Twitter etc
If you are referring to the people using it, there are many users on the site.
Not all would fall into the 'thinking they're a major player' category. There are some users who like to think they know more than others...look up from your screen and you'll notice that's life...people like that are everywhere. I guess it's easier to confront those people via a keyboard than real life though eh?
I should probably point out that no players are major in Carp Fishing...it's a past time we all enjoy. It's not as important as scientific / medical / technical research.
Those areas could hold people who would fit major player status...I don't see the likes of Danny F changing the world in the way that people like Elon Musk or Jordon Peterson can.
So I guess it was just a little rant from you because you didn't like a few things that were said...or you're one of those people who like to define CarpForum as 'such and such' just because 1 thread upset you?

I think what is annoying for me is that much of the stuff they have released is objectively terrible, yet there seems to be an almost never ending stream of people jumping to defend it and praise how good it is.

I think what omc needs is something that is unique to them as Nash in the 90s had the oval brolly and titan Aqua had Chris manifold making top quality brollys and bivvys solar had there stainless
And so on They need something new that is there's and no-one has got
Everyone is selling different types of rig cases and hoodies and jackets
And as for wrapping paper we'll say no more
I did think before omc was launched that something special was coming and was disappointed to see what's on offer
People say well Nash made it but Nash was in the 80s a completely different time it was the start of selling carp gear he had the market practically to himself

I dont think there will ever be anything unique anymore. The market is saturated with everything you could ever need now.
It was always going to be clothing that they released as thats what his backer specialises in and obviously already has everything set up in his chinese sweat shops to churn all this clothing out. The last thing we need is more clothing, you would think its a fashion show and people are out on the pull when there on the bank when in reality fishing is probably the uncoolest sport going. Ali just comes across as a clown when you see him on fb or the tv.

Ali is is a modern day social media/TV "personality" and that works great as a "face" to appeal to a specific demographic .... but i think it is at the expense of angling credibilty when compared to the likes of Nash, Fairbrass etc .... and unfortunately that will reflect the general wider appeal of OMC .... and some of these early products are doing little to contradict this.
I think OMC need a re-brand and will need to bring someone else in to either replace Ali or be the joint face of the company .... A more serious angler who is known for catching fish more than being a personality.

I think it needs a degree of seperation/professional relationship between the two people. It needs someone Ali genuinely respects as an angler otherwise it wouldnt work .... As a business model Ali as "presenter" and other guy as the "expert" .... Ditch the gimmick products is also a must if someone more serious comes onboard.

Few of his fanboys asking him to bring out omc crackers now 😀
I watched a few of the korda videos with him , they are obviously very promotion orientated, but there was one with him and some old drunken ex footballer that was just painful to watch, and really quite sad.
fame and the things that accompany it sometimes lead to the ultimate destruction of raw talent, as clearly shown in this particular instance, it was embarrassing to watch.

Good idea 💡 but the way my kids pull crackers I could see a trip to A+E to remove a baiting needle from a finger or eorse

Well the marketing is working. I mentioned in another thread that my Mrs saw the gear on the GFA when I was watching it and she said the clothing looked nice. Got up this morning to a OMC gilet, I had absolutely no idea she'd got it and I never made any mention of wanting one - to be fair though it feels really good quality, is well padded and fits great.

Did it come in the wrapping paper?
You wouldn't catch my missus watching a fishing programme. She has no interest in fishing whatsoever, tuts at the very mention of it.
It got me thinking, how many partners are like mine and how many will sit down and watch it on tv.

My wife isn't normally game for watching a fishing show, although has watched a few minutes of monster carp here and there but is a good shopper for fishing gear.
This year I have a Kumu hoody and have previously had a Matrix Bulldog MK2, Savage Gear pro folding net, Chub cradle and an ESP retainer. All stuff she has seen me looking at in the months prior to Xmas/birthdays and made a note of.

To who? No pretentious bell ends where I fish. It's a nice present and not something I expected seeing as we've just spent £100k doing up the house.

As long as it does the job why will you look a ****?
Thought of thing you used to hear at primary school.

I think it's quite a nice gesture from your wife...
my missus buys me clothes to go fishing in cos apparently i look like a tramp when i just use my old clothes.... Would i pick them myself. Probably not, but its nice she's took the time and effort to do a bit of research into something she has no interest in whatsoever, its not the gift that counts its the thought behind it......

Yes exactly what I thought. Just a throw away comment.
I tried to get my missus to watch Bob and Paul, she walked out after 2 minutes.
So the chances of her buying me anything to do with fishing is zilch.
Personally I don't see it as a problem, if I had to sit and watch her programmes I'd have to suffer 'Real Housewives of somewhere or the other'
