Wondered if you have seen evidence of carp spawning, not chasing, not finding males in milt, but actually spawning? Thanks all.

They have shut some of the Lea valley park lakes

Nearly all the lakes down my way are full on spawning mode and been shut now, one started on Sunday and a lot of the others have all followed. Funnily though my syndicate hasn't started yet but don't think it will be long with the weather we got this week n the weekend

Nothing on lake I'm on I'm into my second night here till Saturday morning and had a 13LB fully scaled out alread,they just cruising about during day not many tho

Started yesterday on mine. Hopefully the weather holds for them, they were at it in the rain today apparently.

I thought it was 18c. At any rate, none of my waters have kicked off, even the shallower ones (Essex/Cambs). Usually around the end of May down my neck of the woods - it hasn't actually been that warm of late. You do sometimes see some false starts, where a few males start chasing around in the shallows. I deliberately don't book any holiday to fish end of May/early June for the risk of sessions being cancelled due to spawning. Early to mid May should be a safe bet, but hey, carp don't use calendars

Few around Sussex are. My syndicate not yet but it is quite deep. Got a overnighter on sat night but wouldn't be surprised if they go at it by then

Had a fat female & milting male Friday night , bream & roach spawned two weeks ago, expecting the carp to follow very soon

Seems v early to me, but some lakes local (cambs) going for it, my guess is, this will be a 'stop start affair' more so than normal.

agree, much earlier than usual, but the BBc have said that spring is also earlier this year, and birds have laid their eggs on average 3 weeks earlier than usual. Nature knows!

But then we were still getting frost at the beginning of may, crazy bloody weather.

WW3 is imminent, the carp know this, the birds know this, making the best of time left. We're doomed I tell thee, doooomed.

I know this is a bit of a piece of string question. But how long do they normally take ?? We are booked on a lake on the 22nd of May for 72hrs, but the fishery has closed the lake today because of spawning. Could they be finished by the 22nd ??

I think it should be ok but I do know they can spawn more than once if conditions are right.
On another note the bird life are going mad on my lake especially the Canadian geese fighting and following each other round and basically kicking off

Totally depends on if they spawn properly or stop and what the fishery policy is. One of our club lakes just shuts for at least 2 weeks once they start spawning sometimes 3 weeks if they go again etc.

Not seen any signs of it happening yet on my regular waters up north.

Currently on a 6 day session, no signs of life let alone spawning.

Yeah, likewise in the North Midlands/South Cheshire, no signs yet.

My Essex syndicate is closed for a month for spawning. Saw signs of it last Monday when I was there, so I'm not surprised.

Does seem early, though.

Not at all, still a month of the old closed season to go. Even when they have stopped going at it they still need time to recover.

And what happens if they then spawn in june and july? That's 3 months completely wiped off?? Just seems to me far too excessive, obviously doesnt affect me, but for me, may, june, and July are the best times to be out

I just went back through the Facebook page of my syndicate, it's exactly the same time as they spawned last year.

Agreed that is a 'stop/start' thing, that happened last year as well

Be at it now

Yep I agree. He closed for 2 weeks last year then another 2 weeks when the next cohort starting getting busy with it.

I will raise it with him when I'm next down!

Definitely started at Lakemore when I left, explains a lot.

My lake in Tonbridge closed on Sunday as they started spawning closed for at least 3 weeks.

Spawning time must make canal carp fishing even more tricky. If they are all grouping up in one section you could be miles away from every fish in the area! Can't say I've ever seen canal carp spawning.

I have seen Bream, they don't mind anyone watching them splurt their jizz everywhere right next to the bank. It's a fairly lazy affair as to be expected.

I've seen canal carp spawning once on a stretch literally in the centre of Coventry .

I used to walk along the cut to work every day and it was gin clear as it didn't see many boats .

I never saw a sign of a carp or even a fish in a whole year . Then one day walking home I saw them .

I was mind blown to be honest as there were some fish pushing 30 lb if not above it and also several ghosties and other koi that had obviously been tipped in from a garden pond etc .

Great way to see what fish are in your water.

I had a walk through Victoria Park this morning and saw plenty of carp cruising around. Was a warm morning but they looked pretty chilled, not sure if they have had a go already or not to be honest.

I took the dog for a walk round Shakerley Mere here in Cheshire last Wednesday, the Carp were at it big time, it is a shallow silty mere so no surprise it heated up quickly really.
I noted signs for a match 2 days later (Carp charity match I assume) so I popped a e-mail off to Lymm Anglers to let them know in case it might be of interest.....didn't

Canals are full of surprises they really are,my profile picture is my pb carp and that was from my local canal
