Now, currently watching a Korda YouTube vid where they have basically put the drone in air, seen fish and then later on the spot. It's a great insight and entertaining but just can't see that those captures can be as merited as without one.
Also watched a thinking anglers vid of oz Holnes on Milton abbots and once again a drone was utilised, once again, an amazing insight but surely it's cheating
What's others thoughts on this?

Drones probably fall into the same category as bait boats and fish finders.
It makes it a hell of a lot easier.
I'm just glad they are banned on the waters I fish.

I think, well personally, they are above bait boats n fish finders. They literally show you exactly where they are and what they are doing. It's great to watch but using it to help catch fish is to much for me. When you can put it In the air, find where the fish are and then go there just seems a little too easy, still got to catch Them but at least you know where they are and what they are doing

Catching fish at all costs by any means by desperate people terrified of failure in front of the cameras using high tech gadgets which in my opinion should be banned is not angling.
Milton Abbey is a heavily stocked small, shallow estate lake with white marker poles showing where the fish are regularly fed. Good honest angling my backside. You can blank on any fishery but anyone who needs much more than a rod and line to catch on here and then wants me to pay to watch yet another boring amateur video showing a procession of fish and little or no other content can whistle.

I was fishing a Birmingham park lake last summer when a lad decided to come and punish me with a load of utter crap . One of his plans was to get a drone to pinpoint fish on the pool .
“Got to targets to hit” was his justification..

It's **** mate - they are used on one of my Syndicates. Blokes launch them from the car park before even getting their gear out the van or even walking the lake. Literally fly it out of the back of their car - locate fish and then push their gear to the spot.
What can yo do eh. It's a big old water and to be honest, i don't want to pull off.

Carp fishing should be simple not all this crap, in my opinion you will never know if your doing something right or wrong if ur ysing all these equipment and for me thats where all the fun and competition and benefiting from catching on ur own changes comes in! For me the pleasure wouldnt be there using equipments its cheating. But i dont mind watching others doing it

What's wrong with using experience and knowledge to find carp rather than use a drone,I fish a canal that has over 14 of canal between locks it's hard enough to find them then never mind anything else

I wouldn't fish a water that allows drones and I wouldn't fish a lake that allows bait boats. Both as bad as each other and any fish caught with the aid of either would not count for me.
It amazes me the number of ‘anglers' that use a remote control boat . It's almost like it's a normal way to fish.
Holiday fishing in France etc is a bit different and I've borrowed a mates. It makes it easy. But then I would never count a holiday fish as a PB either.

We have to remember that Korda vids although entertaining ain't real life, just like Hollywood. Although I don't condone the use of drones in everyday fishing, using one to make a film has got to be an efficient way of keeping costs down, it can't be cheap to have a crew on the bank, so if a drone helps to make the film in a week rather than 2 then why not.

I think everybody's idea of angling is different, and they're all right. How's that? Well, there's no one right or wrong way about is there.
Personally I don't use a deeper or bait boat, but I don't think it's cheating if you do. Where do you draw the line? A bite alarm? Is that cheating? Didn't have them years ago, but now everyone does. Times change, technologies change, fishing changes. That's life.
Just enjoy your angling and it's all good. Tight lines!

I think everybodies idea of fishing is different. Angling is something else. Unfortunately these days very few people seem to understand the term "sporting" contest. It requires respect and empathy for the "quarry" (target species) using an agreed set of simple traditionally agreed rules The use of high tec equipment including satellites, flying machines, digital video cameras and ultrasound detection units all controlled by powerful software giving high levels of automation breaks those rules. That is not sporting or reasonable.
The bite alarm argument doesn't hold water. It indicates a bite, like a float or quiver tip or bobbin after the angler has earned his fish using traditional means. If you want to go out and catch fish at all costs by any means possible that's your choice. Just don't call yourself an angler.

I tend to agree with your sentiment in general, but the definition of angling is "fishing with a line, reel and hook". So even floats and bite alarms would be taboo to a purist. My point is simply that life is change. Don't sweat the small stuff. Do whatever makes you happy, and enjoy.

This is not the small stuff. For an angler rather than a fisherman it's what makes him what he is. Your definition of angling is also incorrect. Fishing with a rod line and reel is fishing, not angling. Angling is a code based on absolute respect for the fish and environment.
Go ahead and do whatever makes you happy. Just don't call yourself an angler.

Well I for one understand and totally agree with absolutely everything you say,and that's from someone who is clearly different in my mindset from 99% of the British population..
It's called thinking for myself...
'Yesterday I had three fishermen turn up,they had no idea, they didn't want to learn, had zero respect for the flora, fauna of the lake,no landing net ,no unhooking mat,not willing to listen ,I went up to the pay slot ,and gave them the money back ,and got them off the place'....they didn't even understand why...they were the definition of the new cult of fisherman,...not anglers,...nor would I even waste my breath on them..
There is a huge difference between an angler and fisherman...,an angler would under stand,a fisherman could not understand,....your right half century..for sure..

Guys, can I jusr repeat what I already said.
I don't use a drone, deeper or anything else in my fishng or angling. I take fish care very seriously, and always ahve mat, propolis etc. I take litter home with me, my own and other peoples if I see it lying around.
By small stuff I mean putting it in perspective. As someone already said, compared to Covid, war and etc. how someone fishes is small stuff.
I gert you all take your angling very seriously and that's great. But things cd o change. There's another generation coming, like it or not. Those lads that were turned away? Why not teach them a better way, and hope they'll do the same for their kids etc.
Whether you like Korda, and the drone stuff on Youtube or not, they are popular, and they do promote fish care at every opportunity, but it's also a business, so they have to find and catch fish. If that means using a deeper, drone or whatever, so be it.
This gentle sport seems to provokes ome far from gentle reactions. If I've offended anyone I apologise, and I'll say no more.

They had to go..!

Smooth weasel words. "It's a business so they have to find and catch fish, if that means using a deeper, drone or whatever so be it" all wrapped in sweet reason. Just another way of saying its fine to catch fish at all costs by any means possible to make money. Doesn't matter how you wrap it up. Greed, ego, money, self.
Don't fall for it Wandle. We may be the last generation of anglers. Let's go out true to our colours. Let's keep the faith guys.

Totaly against both drones and seadeepers(being used to find fish) i understand and like the veiws and footage a drone gives but they are blatently being used widely for the wrong reasons in my oppion.
I've never used a bait boat, drone or fish finder and I never will. My thoughts in this tie in pretty closely with Halfcentury - if I can't cast there - be it the distance, under a canopy of branches, snags - then so be it, and I like to think that this allows the fish to have some sanctuary, an area that they feel safe. Boats dropping baits in places where it would be impossible to cast to is just fishing, and definitely not angling in my book.
In tandem with that, I go to the lake for some peace and quiet, some solitude and for a bit of a break from real life. If someone starts driving their boat around (I hate the sound of them) or flying their drone then that is indisputably going to tarnish proceedings. The idiots with boats that leave their alarms on full pelt when dropping their baits are just the worst kind; inconsiderate, unskilled and there for all the wrong reasons - else why would they be so intent on destroying the peace and tranquility of the environment like that?
Boats, drones, fish finders are all simply cheating, in my book; they tip the balance far to much in favour of the humans, don't give the fish a sporting chance and are unwelcome anywhere near me.

Fully agree .. I was fishing the Warwickshire Avon once smack opposite the theatre . From no where a drone appeared in front of me and then made its way towards me . It stopped about 15ft in front of me and around 15 ft in the air.
I honestly felt a bit intimidated and also it was intrusive as I was sat trying to trot a float for a few roach .

Where do you draw the line?
Bait boats then... Bait boats with sonar, Bait boats with camera, Castable fish finders, Drones
Enter the bait boat, no way on earth can a man put a baited rig over a nice patch of bait at 170yds. Add sonar, on the plateau at 180yds, add camera, on the small clear spot on said plateau.
Castable fish finders, from what I have seen great for mapping out countours but poor at finding fish?
Drones, a whole other level.
Goes back to merit for me but when people show a picture it is very rare the real truth is with it
Posted a while ago, started fishing a very weedy water. Watched a lad put all his rods out from inside his bivvy, bait boat with sonar and camera, just drove them out into the lake looking for clear spots and dropped them. Merit zero for me, cant see what pleasure you would get, robot carping
Catch at all costs. Forget carp fishing, there are a lot of monkeys who will try anything for a bit of publicity, unless in the case of a drone they say "right lads, I am now going to cheat now, cant be arsed to find the fish (or don't know how to). I am going to fly this over the lake, find them and move onto them
Whatever happened to a passion for fishing, the mystery and the chase
Becoming a cyber sport

I understand drones being used to make an angling film. That's not real angling, it's just for entertainment. It'll cost them thousands to make a vid so I understand they need to make catching as sure a thing as they possibly can.
But anyone that uses one in a real fishing situation is a cheating ****. There's no two ways about it.

PS anybody that says people like Danny Fairbrass or Tom Dove etc arent anglers need to get their heads checked

Could drones not be be viewed as progression?
If used in the correct manner are they any different, all be it safer than climbing a tree to get a high vantage point to find fish from?
What were peoples thoughts when marker floats/Spod's/Spomb's and marker sticks were first released allowing you to find mark and feed areas at range making everything a lot easier
The flip side could be how many people using Drones have the correct Licenses' attained from the aviation authority?

Climbing the correct tree at the correct part of the lake to find fish still requires some skill and watercraft.
Sending a drone up so that you can see the whole lake and it's inhabitants on a screen does not.
Marker floats etc can't be compared to bait boats and drones any more than a bite alarm.

Just another tool, that's all they are. Can't see what the problem is here. No different to a fish finder that I use when afloat.
The only issue with drones comes down to the person flying them, that's why they get banned. No different to idiots using bait boats or lobbing their deeper into people's swims or even taking their dogs that sh1t all over the place.

Some proper laugh out loud comments in this thread
by proper fisherman !!! you know the ones fast asleep in their bivvy being woken up by a fish thats hooked itself !!! they then drag themselves out of bed to reel it in proper skill eh
nothing changes in Carp fishing in the 60s I had someone raging at me as I was using a Heron bite alarm he was shouting thats cheating using an electric bite alarm thats not skill ??
then a few years later we were using hempseed and got accused of turning the fish into drug addicts as it was cheating !
it was EVEN BANNED for a while
there is such pathetic bollox in fishing these days
just enjoy your fishing dont worry about anyone else if its not affecting you just do your thing FFS

Baitboats, Deepers and Drones are all banned or due to be on the waters I fish, I'm actually telling any prospective new members and present members this at present -
“Baitboats, Deepers and Drones are now Banned – it's a level playing field, nobody has any unfair advantages over anybody else anymore, you have got to rely on your own Skills ONLY, no fish stocks are now being put at risk, no deadbaits are being boated out to moronic places, nobody is sailing a damned deeper on the back of a baitboat all around the bloody lake looking for the big Cats, if you don't like it go else were”
This was planned last year, as I witnessed some of the worst, selfish angling practices I've ever seen - and all have involved baitboats. I've heard it all before “I only use it to bait up; I never take rigs out into/near snags” Liar! As soon as they think nobody is watching them out it goes – fish at all cost head takes over.

I was taught this by my countryman grandfather..

When ever the subject of drones or bait boats is raised I always reflect on the old Condor pipe tobacco advert .
The gang of scumbags turn up to the lake terrorising everyone with there remote control boat .
Gentleman sat on a bench quietly engages his remote submarine... and ‘BANG'
Gentleman sits back , lights pipe and enjoys peace and quite with a rye smile ...
Absolute gold

How long have you managed those waters and allowed the use of those things before making that decision from reading this thread. Surely if they had caused bother you'd have banned them before?

For arguments sake, what if the user of said drone has immense water craft skills, but has developed issues with their sight, or can no longer climb trees etc, are they not then at a disadvantage due to health? Is it not ok in that instance?
Also, Technology moves on, and we have to accept that people move with it.
I'm not a fan of drones or bait boats fyi. Im open minded enough to see their place, but not for me.

There comes a point when enough is enough, bit like smoking in Pubs – it was put up with for so long and then it was stopped, even thou is was only a minority who smoked.
It's just the same, all were warned well in advance that it would be happening.

I appreciate I'm playing devil's advocate here, but what about baiting poles? While not in the league of drones or boats they do allow you to access places unfishable by casting. If the bloke in the next swim objects, are they to be banned too?
I wonder how many of the anglers here who object to the drones and boats use those, and how do they justify it? OK. it's not in the same league, but it's still the same argument... Thoughts?

Heff, I have made those rules verbally ,having seen baitboats driven into snags and baits dropped right in amongst some very strong branches..,this was after said fishermen, not angler, lol, said they would not do this as it was a safe area..
Drones, well last year,we had a guest using one right over the top of another guest,..which was intimidating and unnecessary, bearing in mind said lake is only two acres, it scared the crap out of the birds who ,I guess thought it a pred maybe..
And as for deepers,we'll I thought I'd go for full house ,as they are not needed ,angling is a field sport not a computer game on a screen..
And yes,I can think for myself ,as I issued these fair warning,verbally...now ,like Kieth I'm going to get the basic rules laminated and put on the gates, which also say 'shut the gates, this is because of predation'
You'd be amazed how many people ignore basic common sense..
I'd like to add, just because things move on does not always mean they are better..in general life and within angling..

Yes,I thought about that as well, only no one has used one as yet ,I mean ,baiting poles..
I'd like to say ,I personally don't use or will use a bait boat ,drone nor do I use a baiting pole..
If I can't reach an area,in my fishing,if it's to far out out ,then so be it ...
I do not subscribe at all,in any way ,shape or form to catch at all costs, nor do I see a blank session.as a failure, or a slight in my angling ability..
Sadly, the angling media and companies promote all of the above,so therefore it must be OK...right..
Wrong ,it's about money, there are lots of ways to catch carp, fish without modern ,brainwashing tech,..
Don't take it personally what ive said,it's not intended that way..

You could say I'm a traditionalist. Fishing is with a rod and involves casting from the bank, maybe wading out but casting out
Bait boats catch loads of fish that people do not really deserve and are an unfair advantage over other anglers, for example, under the trees on the far bank at 120 yd's, fish shows at 150yds and has a nice patch of bait dropped on it, I can go on and on. And BTW I have absolutely no desire of buying one, it ain't cricket for me
End of the day its choices and fishery rules dictate what gets used. If people want to use them that's their choice, not mine

Glad I don't have this problem. Everything is banned on the lakes I fish. Sometimes surprised they actually allow the hooking of fish. ( Lol)

I agree. I don't use any tech either, other than bite alarms. If I blank it's all part of fishing. If I caught every time I wouldn't go!
I think this whole thread has wandered a bit though. The oOP asked about drones in making fishing videos, and I can understand that with costs and all.
As for the numpties on the bank, they can annoy me too. I think people can do what they like though, as long as they're not upsetting anyone else. I guess that's the real point isn't it? A little thought and respect go a long way, for the environment, other anglers, and life in general.
The "weasal words", and some of the other comments from the older anglers here, were a bit uncalled for, I thought. Surely a point can be made without denigrating remarks? That's respect too.

Lol some of these comments are laughable on this thread. How is using a bait boat on a lake allowing bait boats putting other anglers at a disadvantage? Does that not mean if you don't want to use a boat you are putting yourself at a disadvantage?
Don't get me wrong all lakes have their own set of rules and should be fished accordingly. If a lake don't allow boats happy days you spend the time in leading the bottom till you find your spots, marker it and spomb it etc etc. Unfortunately this too can be a disadvantage to you and your adjacent anglers. The amount of time ive had a guy next to me cast a lead out for hours to then spomb for hours i have a better chance catching covid then a fish.
When lakes allow boats boats aren't the problem but the user. Same as driving to a lake the guy driving like a knob resulting in an accident is the problem. Should we ban cars? Well cyclists think so.
If i go to a lake that allow boats and im not too lazy to trek my catamaran along i would always go to the adjacent swims to introduce myself and ask where they are fishing to make sure everyone knows their water. In return they get me mapping my swim inside 5 min if not less with bait dropped keeping disturbance to an absolute minimum.
Each to their own but the name calling on here for someone choosing to use allowed technology is ridiculous.

DJ,..some interesting reversed psychological comments mate..
The person who doesn't wish to use a baitboat decides thus because they might not wish to use such a thing,it therefore does not matter if they feel disadvantaged or no,more to the point..it is whether any fish the angler catches is meritous..ie the one using a bait boat,my opinion is they have cheated, not only themselves but the ethos of angling in some ways..
As you rightly say,a baitboat in the wrong situation ,with a catch at any cost person using a said baitboat can ruin a lot of things for many people.. I have seen it myself..I saw it on Marsh's place before years ago ,indeed a member of my family made his name in angling using one,he'll tell you himself it was a massive advantage ..no doubt about it..
Not that many years ago my family distributed ,designed a baitboat,I'm proud to say I never ever desired one...I could've had a top of the range one ,at any point within reason..
I declined,as even then...the only time I can see a baitboat being of benefit is someone who is unfortunately disabled in some way...

The very fact that it's possible to send a boat out, map a swim, find a spot and put a bait on it in 5 minutes is why I would not use one for my regular fishing.
For me that's just too easy, I like the process and honing the skill to do those things with a rod and line. There is a satisfaction that I would not get holding a remote control.
However, if some people want to fish like that it's fine. I mitigate it by not fishing waters that allow it. Thankfully very few of the waters I've wanted to fish allow bait boats.

I fish many lakes like Sandhurst etc that doesn't allow boats and have done exceptionally well using a rod and line to find my spots and fish it. For me a boat is not something i can't do myself but its something where i arrive late Friday after work something i can do quicker. For me its like a game when I do use my boat. Would always separate 1 rod from the boat and find a spot to fish using bags or few spombs. See which method catches.
I still can't fathom how some see it as cheating if allowed on the lake for everyone to use if they decide to do so. Like saying tiger woods cheating early 2000s with nikes first solid core balls before Pro V's came into place as it gave him an legalised advantage? For me personally cheating is something like some using said fish hormones to attract fish which isn't and shouldn't be allowed but done behind the scenes.
Out of curiosity what do you guys think of carpfeed maps showing hotspots to lakes. Hell you can even buy full contoured lake maps. Or how about info on a good spot by someone leaving their spot and tell you they biting at 20 wraps. Is this also cheating? You didn't find the spot yourself in the end the info was relayed to you.
All I am saying is boats does not (or at least should not) take skill out of fishing. But its a useful tool in certain circumstances which as my previous post can benefit your fellow angler as much as yourself. Call me a fisherman they say, ill leave the "angling" to you boys😂

For me it's not about cheating other anglers. For me using tech is about disrespecting the fish and cheating on the unspoken sporting contract between the angler and the fish.
All the fish we catch, not just carp are marvellous, beautiful and fascinating, puzzling and frustrating. They are also challenging and secretive.
The contract is simple. I am coming to where you live, take you on in your own environment where you are an absolute master of survival who knows every pebble, twig, weed frond, all deeps and shallows, silt, gravel and snags and all the other features of the lake. I am going to try and catch you with a rod and line using my body, my brain and my senses. The knowledge and skills I have learned and practiced over the years will along with my rod, reel, line will be the tools I use.
If you are impossible to find or reach, if presenting a bait is difficult or impossible or you infallibly identify my hookbait, I am clumsy and I alert you or for any reason I can't catch you I will give you best on that day and raise my hat to you and walk away. You know I'll be back.
There is no money in this contract but I may tell a fine story afterwards.
It's not catching you that is important, or how many or how big it's how I catch you. thats the most important thing. I know you will be a worthy adversary. Will I be a worthy angler.

A poor first go would be ..'it's not the matter of size, but the manner of a capture'

I appreciate what you are saying. If using tech was the problem wouldn't that include something as simple as a bite alarm? At the end of the day it certainly helps hooking fish more securely in its indication?
Lets gets silly and go a step further what about a weather app? Is that not tech which tells you when a low front is coming in/moon phases or better yet tells you the wind for the weekend. Have you never looked at a weather app and set up knowing the next day wind will be blowing down your face?
Im not here for an argument just to be clear just trying to get a point across because some people disagree with certain things doesn't mean it's bad. For me fishing is a hobby i do to get away from a high pressured office job. I go out to enjoy the outdoors and relax and if I blank it bothers me absolutely zero. Hell most of the time if i do catch i don't even get proper pics as even though realistically a carp can easily be out of water 5-10 min for me it means more getting him back to where he belongs.
All i can say is tight lines and if i do every fish next to one of you lot on a lake that does permit bait boats and I so happen to chose to use mine you will get a complimentary introduction before i cast a line. Ill be the 19 stone ginger that looks like he belong on a street corner 😂

I really don't expect to convert anyone to my way of thinking. If you go fishing and do it your way and you feel the need to use any or all means at your disposal to catch fish at all costs that's your choice. All I'm saying is don't call yourself an angler.
Those rules don't change.
One shivers with fear at the idea of your complimentary introduction., 🧐

Who makes this unwritten rule about being an angler or fisherman?
It literally means the same thing.
I'm not a fan of rc boats but I wouldn't describe their use as catch at all costs.
Arguably those who go to sleep and leave rods fishing/angling on buzzers through the night are in direct violation of some imaginary rule regarding sporting chances?
My preference is to use a single rod with a centrepin or fly reel, but I don't bemoan the use of those fixed spool godless contraptions you fisher people call reels on your multiple rods

Fishing is easy all we need to do is think
That's out of reach of many people!
Either they don't think, or can't be bothered, expecting instant answers.
Somebody used a drone on my lake to get pics of the lakebed on my lake, very clear water, you can see the bottom from above.
The person living in the house on the park complained about it, and drones were instantly banned.
Other rules include no fake baits, so no plastic or Cork balls as hookbaits, no bait boats, boats may only be used to land fish from the weed, or to retrieve tackle from the weedbeds if it snags up, but only if there is another angler or person on the lake in case of difficulties and lifejackets must be worn in the boat.
Not forgetting no climbing of trees.
I try not to get into the bait boat debate but I don't approve of them except for disabled anglers who can't physically cast.
Yes I do use buzzers, most of the time, but I do sometimes use a centrepin and sit and watch a float, or even freeline.

A Bite Alarm gives zero advantage to anybody, hell it's an audible alarm to movement just like a Coin dropping off a Spool into a tin, just like the Penn Surfmaster Clutches we used to use with running rigs - the Alarms just became fancy Rod Rests as the clutches were so loud!
Just like Silver Foil, Bobbins, Washing up Bottle tops, Swing Tips, Quiver Tips, Floats etc all give you a visual indication of movement, just like an Alarms LED does.
My view is – they have all paid the same money, no one has any perks or advantages over anybody else now they are banned – a totally level playing field, simple as that equality. All I've heard off members is “Brilliant!”

Sad times when folk need to ban X, Y, or Z for the "level playing field" if you wish to level up get a boat or a chirp or drone or whatever. Don't sit there whining like some spanked kid. It's a pastime were like everything, tech innovates and things move forward. Some call it progression and few want regression and just to hold it back is in my opinion jealousy. Again, shoe on the other foot, whos ruining what for the majority? Don't like it, take up another pastime. I dont want some nob lecturing me on what they think is an acceptable practice.
Sad times when folk need to ban X, Y, or Z for the "level playing field" if you wish to level up get a boat or a chirp or drone or whatever. Don't sit there whining like some spanked kid. No they will just have to rely on skills rather than up-graded child's toys

LOL Skill... That old chestnut. Matey, I know guys with all the gear and an idea and would catch their fair share with or without the tech. You sound bitter and very sad. It almost bought a tear to my eye. Have you thought of a just giving page, ill throw in a few quid to fund a toy for you?
If it helps and it's not hurting what is the problem? I've seen water parks thrive because of bait boats that were plagued by anglers casting into bushes and trees. A nature reserve local to me has now had zero birds caught up in 10lb line that these carp noddies think they need to cast 180yds, and leave trailing for birdlife to hang themselves on. It has its place, but sadly you type tends to think they know best, when in reality they will never see the bigger picture because of the blinkers...

Then don't fish the ‘NOBS' waters then .. Simple .
Leave the good and peaceful waters to the anglers to practice watercraft .

In my experience most people don't want bait boats on their waters. When I was on the VW syndicate a member proposed that we requested that bait boats could be allowed. It was a resounding ‘no thanks' from the other members and the idea was dropped very quickly.
Bait boats would have been a HUGE advantage on that water and people would have caught more fish, but nobody wanted to do it that way.

Its generally the older guys that have a heavy reluctance to change, its not just in the fishing world.
The only constant is change and if you don't embrace you just become bitter and sound like an old moaner lol.

Fisherman - has a beard, a big jumper and goes out in a boat on seas that would make most of us cry like a baby
Angler - sits next to / stands up (if on the fly) a puddle or river to get away from the daily grind / wife / husband / non gender specific life partner (just for you noj)
As for drones. Nasty things. I got one caught in my hair once.

I can totally relate to wanting to get away from non gender specific life partners

Biggest problem with tech be it drone or bait boat is often the idiot controlling it.
Doesn't bother me about level playing field etc but when a boat or drone affects the peace and quiet, other people's fishing and allows a hook bait to be presented in an unsafe area then that alone is good cause for them to be banned in my book.
I don't suppose you would like to venture an option (acceptable practice or not) on a couple of things I've seen recently.
1. I was fishing a small inlet and spent most of the morning tempting one of the lakes larger residents to take off the top. Bait was cast out and looking very hopeful when a bait boat came from across the lake, swung around nearly hitting the carp which disappeared for the rest of the day. Only a fish at the end of the day but in my view not too considerate.
2. Same lake possibly same boat but this time he used the boat to drop his bait well under an overhanging tree that had branches hanging in the water. Carp's safe haven obviously and he soon had a take, the problem was the carp became tethered to a branch. After about 15 or 20 minutes he gave up and pulled for a break.
At best that carp had a long length of line to drag around. Leave it up to you what you think could be the worst

Tech or no tech, bad practice can be applied to either party. I have seen p*** poor casting, cracking off lead core into trees and bushes. Death rigs, undercooked particles spodded out by the lorry load left to rot. I've called out animal rescue several times for destressed swans, cygnets, geese due to the so-called purist anglers that only care about themselves, I could carry on, but you get the gist.
It isn't the tech it's the angler behind the rod irrelevant of whether tech is involved or not. To ban technology is just ignorance and says more about the guy running the water than what statement they are trying to make.

I would agree with you. However people who control clubs / waters have to cater for the lowest common denominator.A.K.A complete 'king idiots. If you have an exclusive syndicate where every member is vetted , then things can be different. As long as the people doing the vetting know what they are about.

I totally disagree with most of that in this and other posts, although you do say it's the angler behind the rods.
I quoted earlier about people struggle with thinking, it's true, some or many anglers don't think about what they are doing. They are either idiots or genuinely have no idea.
To remove that 'not thinking', the idiot factor, you have rules many fisheries have imposed, like no bait boats or drones, even no leaders etc.
It is not about removing technology, it is protecting the fish the environment peace and even privacy of other anglers, that way the rules are simple, idiotproof, you remove the idiot or inconsiderate angler factor.

I think most of us have seen poor and dangerous practices but the fact remains that if bait boats had been banned on that water the carp wouldn't have ended up tethered to a tree. A sad day when you need to legislate for idiots and inconsiderate people but they do share our world.
