Try to keep fit. It gets harder if you're not used to physical exercise on a regular basis. Use it or lose it. It's very true.

When I hit 50,,I took a look at myself..pretty fit due to my job ,but a bit porketh, so I cut out crisps, mmmm I love crisps, anyway I have lost 2 stone..

Got into stretching, and Calisthenics...body weight exercises,I just use what's around me me ,benches, tables, farm gates, tractor tyres..

The stretches have been so beneficial, stretch in the morning and before bed,you can do em on the bank..!

It's a breeze mate.

Keep active, get out in the fresh air, look forwards rather than back and you'll be fine.

Happy birthday

Brisk hours walk everyday will keep most things in order for the next 10/20 years if you are not eating and drinking yourself to death.
GIVE UP SMOKING.

Yeah it's pretty much over mate. I'm turning 51 this weekend and I used to be able to bend an iron bar over my erected thingy. Can't do that now - my arm are simply not that strong anymore.

Yes Mickey, learning those stretches is THE ,best I have done..

Some of you rugby fans mightve heard of Phil Vickery,Phil is Cornish and his family have a farm with carp lakes, anyway I know his physio ..got taught three simple stretches, wow,I do these everyday ,twice a day without fail,

I couldn't touch the floor with both hands ,now,I can multiple stretch walk on both hands...Calisthenics is another thing I do ,its brilliant, just using body weight..when out fishing I do these,I don't care if I look a dick or no,...I've said it before, you don't need to join a gym...equipment is everywhere,I chop logs at speed ,thats another thing..pull ups, chin ups on trees push ups on baitbuckets sit ups in your bivvy on the bedchair.your only limited by your imagination..or not lol..

I got a M6L,small rucksack ,mini trangia..night cycling, no lights ,out on the Moor,go ten miles stop have a brew ,watch the satellites...stay off the tv,with its fearmongering, agenda..

That's what I do anyway,I've gone on too much..!!

Welcome to the antique club

It's interesting reading through this

I'm sat here wondering how many grown blokes are doing stretch offs every morning in a purple leotard and black Lycra leggings

Lol,
I was 60 yesterday and spent the day getting a PCR, missing a day on the bank and thinking I'd been cheated of another days fishing, tested Negative back out tomorrow.
It's not all down hill fast, more a gentle slow down and realisation that you've more time behind you than in front, that said there's always time to enjoy another days fishing.
😂😂😂😂

PMA, it's all about attitude, I'm 63 and still ride a 250kg bike, away this year with club members on tour and some members are over 80 and still riding bikes the size. Don't forget life begins at 50.

Hope ur day is better than mine was, spent all day in the savoy hotel london toilet on a Monday, after one oyster from boro market Saturday, treble normal ring sting and ur about there. Happy birthday, retirement is at the forefront for me now, 14 years to go.

For me it didn't all go downhill at 50, I was still playing tennis at an OK standard (club first team and even played county over 50's for a couple of years) but by God 55 has been a different matter.

I've always been injury prone, broken wrist, two shoulder surgeries, knee surgery and a knackered back to name a few (all due to tennis) but at 55, in fact from the age of about 52/53 I've found things much tougher. Currently I'm playing left handed as my right wrist is knackered and doesn't seem to be getting better. I find it just a general lack of energy or interest, probably not help by the fact that playing left handed, and at a much lower level, is tough.

My father, brother and best fishing buddy have all died in the last 4 years and those have taken a toll, mostly my fishing bud to be honest, still miss him and hardly fish now. So I guess emotionally it has been a struggle too.

Anyway, as others have said, try to keep active and eat and drink sensibly, or at least in moderation. Stretching really helps but don't overdo it. If you're active try to stay active and if you're not then try to get active, dog walking, sport, active fishing (not just carp camping) should all help.

Also try to stay positive mentally, and if you find the trick to that please let me know!

I turned fifty this year back in February during lockdown had the best day at work (not) couldn't do bugger all apart from a nice meal cooked by the wife and followed by a nice bit of a cake.

Have a good one it's only another year.

Am 71 now, Still able to do a week wild carping and a 2 night boat session.
Always tried to be active, usual stuff, football until I was 38 and too slow, road running until something hurt, gym, lots of Covid walking, now more joints hurt so back on the road bike.

All the exercise is really so I can keep doing what I love for as long as I can.

Your home gym looks good, carpstar... I envy that, keep at it!

happy Birthday, Devon!

Best bit of advice I would give anyone especially as you get older if you get any pains that last and dont go away get them checked out DONT LEAVE IT !
I am 75 and ignored a back pain thinking it was a pulled muscle and continued pushing a loaded barrow for over a year !!
but it got so bad I could hardly walk turns out a its tumour in my spine thats pushed out and fractured a few vertebrae in my back so now im disabled and got permanent back problems and on chemotherapy
all because I left it too late to get it checked out

DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE FOLKS our NHS is free get it checked out

Cost me my late summer/Autumns fishing Adam been in there twice had a look at it and popped outside for a smoke

John bit far from Leicester but if you're ever passing by feel free to pop in I could probably even stretch to a beer on exit.

I'm 65 now. My fishing is now done during the week, avoiding the weekends . I do a week at a time as I'm also retired. This also means one person less on the lake over the weekend which frees up a spot for the working members 👍 I fish throughout the year, winter included.

Other than a knackered right knee I'm in good fettle. The knee is courtesy of running in boots with a heavy weights on my back whilst in the army. I need to make a decision on it shortly as to whether surgery is the way forward, but other than that I don't notice any great deterioration, still walking 5 miles a day with the dog.

Welcome to the old farts club, and happy belated birthday. 51 here any my main barrier has been 3 teenage kids. Daughter has just turned 16 now so I'm looking forward to doing more weekends next year, the only issue now is the bird who whinges and whines when I wanna go fishing, but I can always do something about her.

Definitely more aches and pains as you get older but I find a power barrow helps. I've now got one eye on retirement before 60 along with a nice Swift Kontiki and, If I'm lucky enough to make it, I'd love to go to all those places across Europe that I've never managed to get to bringing up three kids as a single dad.
