Im wanting to replace my standard fox butt rests because they dont grip my new rods and slide forward easy when on the pod.
Can anyone recommend me a but rest which will grip my rod well, I am using Shimano TX2's

Solar p1 rests are very good. 2 size options. Pricey but will last an age. Just depends on what sticks etc youre using and wether you are bothered about colour matching etc

Pop then in a cup of warm water then close the opening, when they cool they'll hold the shape
That's assuming the new rods are a similar handle to the old ones, if you've gone from Cork to shrink tube it ain't gonna work

Ive messed around with cheaper ones for a few years but finally got myself some jag lockdowns start of last year by far the best I've ever used, wish I got them sooner

Another thumbs up for the Solar P1 back rests. The grip on these is adjustable so you can tighten to suit your particular rod grip. I tend to swap between these and the Jag's but the Solar's really are a good shout 👍

I have the Jag Lockdowns and think they are great but.....you still can't really beat the John Roberts Butt Grips at about £3.50 each

Used the same John Roberts grips for donkey's year's. When I went from duplon grips to shrink tube I just put a tie wrap around each grip and dropped them in a pan of boiling water for a few seconds to narrow them down.

The ESP ones are fine in three different sizes to suit, Cork, duplon, or Jap shrink or abbreviated.

Sorry don't want to hijack the thread but does anyone know of a good butt rest for a small shrink wrap handle. Got a vader x rs and the handle is very slim so not sure for what butt rest...

I got these today, about £3 each.
A cheapo copy of the original solar butt rest but much less expensive, and made from lightweight adonised aluminium.
No better than my old rubber butt rests but a bit more pleasing on the eye.

I got the below ngt rests and added some black draught foam to the inside of them, they fit my rods perfectly and still look very plain / minimal / discreet

I bought the Jag Lockdown due to the feedback on here and they're very good.....however I would say they are a little shallow and if there's enough of a angle between line and rod, the rod can pop out with any decent sort of drag pressure, ie, not totally free running.
I also have the Solar P1 minis and its not a problem with them. I dont think you get the full benefit from these unless the pinch point is above the half way point on the rods diameter, you need to get the tension right to avoid lifting pod off the floor, depends on your lifting/striking style I guess.
I'm not sure I'd rec the lockdown if you fish tips up or are likely to do with any sort of drag tension.

Now that I'm in my 50's I've decided I can say exactly what I choose - harsh but fair . . .hours of fun winding up my semi-woke teenagers
As for Jag lockdowns vs P1s got both but ditched the Jags - P1s win based on versatility and security IMO

The one thing I don't like about the Solar butt rests (I'm still using the original ones) is that they make a dent in my full duplon handles when I'm locking down the rods.

I like the look of the Jag rod locker system and would happily combine this with my P1s if ness - just find a neville ball peg (very unfashionable for reasons that escape me) in conjunction with a P1 is more than sufficient for UK snag / locked up fishing

If anythink to go by with the sonik stanz banksticks I would steer clear, the mechanism on them barely grips the internal stick at all

I've still got original Solar stainless U rests and a tie wrap on my rod butt's, which serves 2 purposes:
A 'finger lock' when casting, and to stop the rod being pulled forward.

Another vote here for the Nash Butt locks. not cheap but very solid and don't mark the cork rod handles

Thank you. Looks ok, but with a savage take looks like it would pop off, even on an angle. I fish with my rods up high and very locked up. I think the new Nash ones look pretty good for my needs.
