Just a bit of fun, (yes I'm bored) a quick poll......Black or Stainless for your buzz bars, sticks, pods, rod support in general....
Personally it's stainless....I really want to like the black stuff especially for its lighter weight in general but I can't give up the stainless look....😂😂

I'd hardly call black a fad... we painted and wrapped every possible thing in the early 80's onwards and it had been like that for years before. I switched to stainless in the 90's when I could make my own gear at work foc, but the weight of it lets it down for me. Now on custom/ homemade carbon singles and I've even modified an original Gardner rod pod to use carbon fittings too.

Solar stainless early days still got it all.
Matrix rock solid stainless nowadays, bombproof and bashproof.
That black stuff lasts me all of 1 trip, its crap

Had the jag stainless Xcavators sticks for years and can't fault them but now most of my fishing is days only now mainly with two rods arriving at the crack of dawn a lot of time settling up in the dark so took the plunge and treated myself to a jag micro pod absolutely love it just so quick and easy to set and no more sitting down for my 1st brew of the day looking at the rods thinking them bloody sticks are level

ive just sent my order to Keith for the Black Carbon Panther (always regretted selling my original carbon "C" Type) .... Ill be keeping my current Titanium Panther aswell and will clear out and sell the Fox Trek Pods i have, so i guess i have a foot in each camp

I do get bemused with the weight thing, I have even heard of drinking lake water to keep the weight down,,, I have a 2 man bivvy, wide bed chair 5 litres of fresh water with another 2 containers of 5 litre in the truck if required. I would never consider drinking lake water,,, I will move in the night if required. My barrow is a 3 wheeled version, I hardly think the the difference in weight between stainless and other materials is even on my radar or ever will be. If I spend 3-5 days on the bank I want to be comfortable

I knew loads of people drinking lake water in the 80s they said that boiling kills all germs I don't think rats pee would be killed I never touched it after I see the water-in there mug a brownie greeny colour far as I know they never got ill they would put there plate in shallow margin under water to soak and wash it up madness

Yes there are filtration systems around and they are supposed to be very good but sounds like a lot of poncing around when it's easier to fill a container from the kitchen tap.

Stainless is fine if you fish out of your car, weights not an issue if you are there for three nights and can make a few journeys to your swim. But on one of my waters it can be over a mile push to the swim, on an overnighter I want to do it in one push there and one push back. The difference between stainless and lighter materials can be several kilos. I'd rather that extra weight was bait.

Lake /River water,being drunk...well I do that,from a couple places that are near to rivers..
I use the Sawyer mini ,16oz filtration system, had no issues,and as long as you back wash the filter now and again it's good for 100.000 fills,..
I'm using it tomorrow, I dont worry or fuss about it because 99.9% of the fluid is filtered,..I carry it as a back up on long trips as I only take a couple litres on the whole..
I wouldn't do it on a commercial lake though,for obvious reasons,although I did drink out of my garden pond to shock the wife for a laugh though..
So there you go..🤣

Well I have both. I have an Defiant S Type stainless 3 rod. That I mostly use for two rods. But the banks are rocky here so take the chassis each time.
But I also I have a black 2 rod Nash KNX pod that fits in a small rucksack for when I cycle to a lake.
The Nash one works OK. But I always.miss the stainless. Not for.looks. dont give a toss. I.miss the weight and stability and sometimes even the versatility.
The Nash will topple at will and god forbid you bump it. Whereas the Trident is so stable I have used it as a foot rest to tie my boot with rods in place and alarms on.

I wasn't just talking about sticks, I meant all bankware. Pod, short sticks for pod, excavators, stage bites, lockdowns etc etc
There's a big weight saving. Not that it matters to me, I'm so small and important i have people to carry my tackle to the swim.

Black cygnet single sticks for me. I have jag black but it's bit shiney for my liking. Could spook a swan that could spook a mallard that could spook Carp.

These blokes never used a filtration system they dip kettle in lake straight on stove I like both black and stainless I think stainless pods are going to be more stable because of the weight if your using a barra weight don't matter black if walking with gear

Personally stainless for me.
It is strong, long lasting and almost impossible to bend or break.
I usually carry my P1 pod and 4 longer extra banksticks, in case I need to raise the height.
I have tried other materials none last as long.
As for the drinking lake water, not for me without filtering it.
I'm never that far away I can't stick a 5l container of water on the barrow, and it is easy enough to keep some more water in the car.
Boiling may remove most nasties in the lake water, but I would much rather not risk Weils disease.

Am tempted by quality Solar stainless in terms of function etc but it all looks a little bling / satellite aerial stylee for my liking . . .lightweight black just feels right to me . . .until it scratches etc at which point it needs replacing . . .

I have a set of titanium and a set of black ali. Have had carbon too. I used stainless years ago and of the 4 materials it would be the last I'd choose now. Too heavy with no added benefit imo.
