Thread: Making your own lake

I bought a house with some land about 20 years ago.
Always a dream of mine to dig my own pond so one day I thought life is to short I'm going for it. I purchased a used digger and started digging. I picked an area that had a few trees and was a natural gully on the land. More of a marshy area really.
Had no idea what I was doing but spent a year having an absolute blast . Got stuck a few times,... Local farmer always available to pull me out lol.
My Mate was a landscaper , tree guy so he took any topsoil and the remaining material was spread around the land. I rented a skids steer every now and then to clean things up and create flatter areas.
Deepest part was about 8ft with a few trees and dotted island.
I hit a couple of water springs that filled the pond slowly and with its location it always seemed full. I guess it was 1/2 an acre, maybe less.
I left it for about two years with the intention of learning as much as could before stocking any fish. Unfortunately life changed and I ended up selling the property without ever fulfilling my dream.
Probably not helpful to the original question but I thought I'd share.

I don't think Daiwa are worth the money in my opinion
Had lots of rods over the years. I still think century are the best carp rods available followed closely by Harrison.

I bought the TX2 a while back.
Great rods. Powerful and look good too
Can't comment on the others though

Very sad.
Haven't seen him in years but always enjoyed his company.
We would sit on the Lockwood together just shooting the S

I started fishing the place in the 90s as well, would spend time in Amsterdam then head to the Twente canal.
Last time I fished it was about 5 years ago I think.
Hard to say about sizes these days, back then I remember rumours of 40lb commons and a few big mirrors however as with most lakes in Holland fish can move out of the lakes into the connecting canals.
I fished it often and wouldn't say I did well for the hours I put in. Lots of other lakes and canals in the area that I would say are easier or better fishing
Really enjoyed my time in Holland and Belgium. Rarely saw other anglers on the bank and caught some lovely fish.

Large park lake in a very interesting neighborhood
Good tackle shop close by. Guys who own it will know lots about what's been happening on the lake. You can buy your license there too.
Definitely not the lake it used to be.
Depending on the time of year fish could be anywhere. I liked to fish in the small marina up near the fountain or near the swimming pool area.
