Ditch the mechanical traps. Roshield bait traps, EBay mate. Just replenished my stocks
I get the wax nuggets, they love it.
Buy a couple of boxes, check them every few months and add some more nuggets as required

Another for peanut butter. They can't resist it and sticks so not nicked without the trap going off if set properly.
Block the holes in your shed where they are getting in.
Put some peanut butter on last night see how it gos i have foamed all the holes that I can see so see if that works

They chewed up my one-month-old Avid benchmark, luggage and clothing last year, despite regular traps. On glue traps now and they can't seem to dodge those.

Just get some of THESE, I have found traps to be a bit hit and miss but this stuff gets them everytime
I bait and check regular. I had chickens until a year or so ago so still dealing with the leftovers. Rats are gone but still got the little feckers under the decking. Luckily my dog lets me know where they are nesting and brings me the odd one as well.
Peanut butter or Jack Russell, but not in a trap 😀 as with carping change one thing at a time 😀 last house we had a mouse problem in garage so brought second hand metal lockers and sonic/electric mouse scarers never had a problem after that. So much so our neighbours complained to us of their mouse problem after ours cleared off 😂 we lent them some spare scarers as my Mrs bought a bulk load 👍🏻

IMHO NOTHING comes even close to the efficiency of those baited boxes after doing lots of research because of the people with wild imaginations
it turns out the Mice dont need to eat it ! they just need to LICK IT !! thats the reason each box will kill up to 50 mice so as there are 2 boxes in each pack potentially 100 mice would be killed
now the Know nothings with wild imaginations will say
but if my cat or dog eats one of the dead bodies (( they call it secondary poisoning )) it will kill it NOT TRUE ! it cannot happen IF IT COULD HAPPEN IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE IT AS ITS ILLEGAL NOW !!!

Peanut butter will work but depending on where you live you need to be careful of rats.
I use peanut butter for setting up ratting around the field. Just be careful what you put down you could get other visitors you really didn't want

I've had traps down in my garage with peanut butter and never caught one, since putting the poison boxes down I started getting the little buggers

I got these and never looked back, just find the odd mouse a few feet away sometimes but usually in the box.
Usually about the time if year they are looking to nest somewhere, no evidence of mice living there now and nothing munched on for years now.

We get plagued by them down here, best deterrent if you don't want to kill them is malt vinegar.
If you couldn't care less blitz some berrocca with breadcrumb or a hard cheese and spread that about

I have the mouse traps as recommended by Gerry in my shed. More as a precaution than a mouse problem... do they need replacing every so often, even if the green poison is still there....i.e. does the poison beco me spent after a period of time, or do they last indefinitely (as long as there is sufficient green stuff).

As they are not that expensive I buy new ones every couple of years but the mice dont need to eat it just lick it and its pretty instant thats why each box will treat up to 50 mice I dont throw the old ones away I put em in other places as a precaution my loft caravan greenhouse etc

Next door neighbour,new to the area...and an angler got all his carp and course gear damaged recently,he didnt get an issue where he lived before...he left unopened bait and chicken feed around.in his big shed...so there you go ..

I left a 25 kg bag of dog biscuits in the basement in the south of France when i went home in November , on my return in April as soon as i opened the door i could smell the ammonia from the mouse urine , i went to where i keep my tackle and bait , the room was full of mice , on the walls , floor , shelves hundreds of the little fu**ers , time froze , they were just staring at me , as if to say what the f are you staring at , i managed to splat a few with a piece of old floor boarding and jump on a few , that night i was rudely awoken with one one my head , they were everywhere , that morning i went and bought 20 mouse traps and loaded em up , all you could hear that day was mouse traps going off , after 4 or 5 days we had the clever few left , we had to resort to smoked salmon to tempt them , the urine smell took a long time to disperse and the mouse shi* took even longer , the 25 kg unopened bag was completely empty !

Mousetrap got a few but the plastic boxes of poison were better at reducing the numbers. Having cats in the house helps but where there is an available food source you will attract mice.

You quiet correct Gerry. No mice issues since i bought them...i was getting something out the shed at the weekend and noticed them, hence my question...i have bought another two and am awaiting delivery this week....i will leave the two i bought 18 months ago still in the shed and put the new two in....

Had one mouse in my trap around a month ago and since it's been untouched. Today I found some fairly fresh droppings in the back of the garage and the trap untouched.
One of the difficulties I face in the garage is that if a noise gets anymore than 2/3ft from a poison box trap then I might not be finding it underneath some of the clutter. Is it still worth getting them even if it might take a week or so to find the bodies after thorough checking?

I've found, beyond all doubt, the best bait for a mechanical trap is Reeses peanut butter cups. Absolutely nails em 😂😂

I bought a couple of those traps OG recommended, really impressed so far and they are working well, always a few dead mice and a few havn't even made it out the trap before dropping dead
Strangely though when I went to check them Saturday one of the green blocks inside had gone walkabouts???

i've had two dead mice so far, both had dragged the green block out before eating on it and dying next to it. It'll be somewhere, have a look about. that or its all been eaten!

Nah it's defo mice. Nailed two. No evidence of rats at all. Just mouse droppings. They didn't come in a plastic film or anything so I'm wondering if they'll be less effective the more they longer they have been packaged up?

yes its true its illegal for any poisons available to do that
as years ago there was secondary poisoning with animals eating the dead bodies now its impossible for that to happen even with rat poisons
with the baited mouse boxes they dont need eat any !

Bought them a good few years ago from Jezza's recommendations, no mouse issues since i put them in the shed.... Every few years i buy another 2 pack from amazon ....not too sure how long they last....but a few years ago they mashed up my wellies, landing net a few bags.... Hence me buying them

Rats are disgusting, and I hate them. To be honest, I never really dispised rats before. At least that's until a rat family invaded my house. It was such a pain to get rid of them. It took almost a year to get rid of them finally. A family friend recommended a pest control company, and they helped me out. Before that, nothing else seemed to work. I even got a cat, and it did nothing. I don't know if my cat thought he was starring in Tom and Jerry, but he was useless. i myself keep birds and have found the best way and quickest way of keeping on top of this problem is to buy a bucket drill a hole either side at the top of the bucket put some water in the bottom of the bucket ,get yourself a empty can drill the same size hole in the bottom of the can then get yourself a cane that fits through all 3 holes making sure that it can spin around then put your chosen spread on the can i use peanut butter on my cans and presto you watch how quick you catch the blighters

We've had the odd rat in the garden since the new neighbors started keeping chickens and cooking on an open fire just behind our garden (don't ask).
Bloody annoying, who really needs chickens in the garden these days, surely it must be more hassle and just as expensive to feed the blooming things than grabbing a dozen eggs from Tesco?

I had the same argument with my brother, earns 60k a year and out there every night feeding the chickens, geese, goats, dog, cat, tortoise, Guinea pigs and poxy parakeet.

To me, rats are the most annoying rodents. I've been afraid of them since I was little, and I'm annoyed by both the sound they make and their smell. Recently I even had problems with them on the ceiling of the house. We have a double ceiling, and two rats managed to penetrate between them and were agitated all day and night. They were making noise, gnawing at the pipes and installations. My father tried to get rid of them with poison but without success. Only some pest control specialists who removed the rats from the ceiling solved the problem.
