So Active baits have announced on FB that they have a new premium bait like the hydra k but more along the milk type base.
They are looking for people to trial it from next week so got 15k 😆 don't know if they have enough people yet but worth a call if your interested.. they are doing it at a very good price
I would happily use any of their baits with confidence. Will fish it alongside the tuna n nbutyric that I'm doing well on 😊

I know Paul and Geoff rate this bait very very highly - they're sort of following up the hydra k bells and whistles concept but in a non fishmeal bait. They've put a lot of thought and effort into this one and I have no doubt at all it will be a banging bait.
Interesting to see if first hand that's for sure.
Matt

I've caught on all their bait.. I am liking good milks in baits at the moment normally with a bit of fishmeal but this will be interesting to fish alongside what I'm using and it's cheap as in testing phase.. be a good mix of light and dark coloured bait I've got.. I like to confuse them.. lull them into a safe sense of security lol

all their mixes roll really really good corkballs except plan B. I once spent an entire day rolling over 800 plan b corkers for Geoff.....rolled fine. Day 2 of the drying cracks started.....not little cracks, proper fissures through to the cork.....the whole lot went. All of them. Binned. Fair to say I wasnt happy. Paul did do me a mix without some of the powdered more active ingredients that did roll, but i thought that was a fudge really.
hydra k - wow, rolls proper minters....
cheers

If I had freezer space I'd be all over this.
Off to France in July and looking to take an ABS bait with me.
I want to try to avoid the Cats in the lake and was going to take my usual Plan b, but Geoff has just started rolling chocolate orange , and now this new one.

I think it will be a similar situation to that of the Hydra-K. Due to the ingredients,it will be only be available in Frozen Form. I'll have a chat with Paul when I collect mine to find out the full rundown

Just taken delivery the Smell and taste reminds me a lot of i bait but a bit more pungent. Think the fruit is bananna? Could be wrong.. tastes like there is substance to it maybe some kind of ground nut perhaps? It's a pale pink in colour crumbles fairly well but feels like it won't be a problem in the throwing stick.
Will give it a good go at the weekend! I'm sure there's a lot more going on in terms of stimulatory and digestive aids too!

Mine has just arrived the colour in nice I wouldn't say pink though more cappunchino kind of . It looks very similar to any of there nut mixes to be honest in make up with a bit of fleck added. In terms of smell I would say it has a tutti back note to it and also in taste.
The proof will be in the using

I went and collected mine yesterday. It is really hard to put your finger on exactly what the bait smells like. There is no tigernut in it, just Tiger Nut Flour. Speaking to geoff at length, I have no doubts this will be another top class bait added to his list. I also purchased hard hookers (as it was mentioned the bait is soft) Pop- Ups and Glug.
Genuinely excited by this oppurtunity and can't wait to give it a try

Not sure about all this premium bait talk.
Does that mean his other baits are inferior?
I bet the £premium£ baits are no better results wise then his malarky gnz nutmix etc. Which are fantastic baits.

Inferior.
Not really, probably will cost more after the testing is done and released, than the other established baits ABS do due to more expensive milk protein content, and additives and attractors, that's all.

I'm an Abs user and my question is are these new premium baits really catching so many more fish than the baits they have had for many years? Or are they catching fish that rarely get caught on harder waters?
Like I said I have great faith in Geoff's baits, but for most people on most waters are the premium baits producing vastly better results.

At no point have ABS labelled this as a premium bait as of now. That is purely down to the wording of this thread. It is a new bait, in development. At NO point yesterday was any final cost mentioned at all, if the bait passes the final testing stage that is. It way well become a ‘premium bait' along side Hydra-K
The ingredients that go into it, are more expensive to purchase in the first place. And therefore will possibly require and higher cost price to customers
Its that simple

The Hydra-K is the first of our premium range of baits being developed and introduced in the coming year.
So either this is another standard bait or it is in fact one of the premium baits they are talking about.

I was told it was going to make part of the premium range mate due to the added cost of more expensive ingredients hense why they said it would be interesting to see the results when fished side by side with hydra k.
More expensive ingredients, higher price, premium product. That simple

They asked if anyone wanted to try this new bait at a reduced price to 'test' it and give feedback. Not saying they have taken on testers permanently. They just said to me they would be interested for me to fish them side by side with hydra k see how it fares against their other 'premium' for want of a better word, bait.

All the testing would have been done well prior to this stage, now it's just released to paying customers at an introductory rate to get it out there and in the public eye. A company as successful as Abs will have a core of proper field testers. A good opportunity to try something new though, especially if you're someone who jumps from bait to bait.

I was using Matt's bobbers fishing with a bag of chopped, crummed and whole abs bait over about 2 kilo of whole abs bait, and it was crapping it all over the mat, so yes the fish was caught over abs bait..with matts bobber and an 18mm mamba hookbait..Anyway I don't know who you think you are, i dont know you but last time you popped up you called me a dunce, for asking someone specifically why they wanted low stretch mono..if youve got nothing nice or constructive to say maybe this isnt the place for you. Or better yet go fishing and clear your head.

No worries, my frustration wasnt with you.
Personally I honestly think both.. I've had a run of good fish since new year on this combo.. The fish are clearly feeding off the ABS free offerings and the hookbait with a bag was obviously equally attractive to get the pick ups.
Incidentally the black mamba hookbait is based on the hydra k mix if I'm not mistaken with some added special tweaks and enhancements from Matt. The pink Plum and squid bobber ontop is clearing working too and Matt's own creation.

I don't think you are being completely fair there. If you smelt a £1 a kilo semo euro boilie over flavoured with chemicals or say a bag of active8 or krill for instance. The ingredients in those baits stink and as well as breaking them up and looking at them, what you can smell would definitely tell you they are a better fish catcher than the cheap ****. Especially long term. When I was on carp company Jules used to roll their natural impact without any flavours and it still had a strong smell due to the base mix. So what's wrong with smelling a bait and helping form a judgement on it? Even if carp don't smell.

It has been pretty warm relatively. Funny enough 2 of the sessions I woke up with ice on the bivvy and mat after having a couple in the night.

Hi Chris. Abs was started by Geoff bowers years ago when he left premier baits. His mixes have emptied waters home and abroad consistently since. I've used them on and off for years and I've never had a bad batch or bad product from anything they've sent me. I've not used their more modern mixes like hydra k and rock lobster, I bait etc, but I've caught on all their classic stuff like malarkey, 5th element, gnz, mcnut etc etc. People tell me their new stuffs even better.
By cutting out the middle man his prices are pretty reasonable and service is second to none. If you call them and tell them the sort of water you are fishing and perhaps what bait goes in then I'm sure they'll be happy to recommend something.
I'd say use with confidence. Plenty of guys on here use nothing else and they would be my first choice again without hesitation if my current bait dried up. I've seen first hand what their baits catch out of some pretty tricky valley waters.

I've pulled a few boillies apart today
Definitely small pieces of nuts in it
Tastes slightly chocolate
It smells fantastic ... not that means anything but my garage smelt delicious today till I sorted it into smaller bags
And to the guy asking about the baits
All they make is brilliant

Thanks for the info guys. I've not heard of them but I've been 'out of the game' for about 6/7 years. Are they not pushy with the mainstream media? I don't think that's a bad thing just interesting.
Prices do look fairly reasonable for such a quality bait

What Wayne has said in post 91 is absolutely spot on. If you go on their website & click on the heading 'About' there's a 5 minute video of Geoff speaking about the company & what they do. Failing that there's a really good interview with him in the original magazine of Subsurface. Geoff's knowledge of bait is simply astounding. Also when he first started doing bait I believe he made a lot of contacts in the pharmaceutical industry, hence the fact that they're constantly getting new products to try out. I believe this new bait incorporates some of these new products. Definitely use with confidence.

Also when he first started doing bait I believe he made a lot of contacts in the pharmaceutical industry, hence the fact that they're constantly getting new products to try out. I believe this new bait incorporates some of these new products. Definitely use with confidence.
Thanks guys certainly sounds like they're worth a go to me! I'm only going to fishing a local club water whilst I'm still looking for a decent syndicate to get on so let's see how it gets on there!

Active Baits run by the best bit man in the uk, producing top quality baits that even a **** angler like me can catch using it. Done really well on Malarkey, 5th element, i bait, mc nut and now using their prototype bait.

Does anyone know if ABS sells their 'off-cuts' etc? I love using them in my spod mixes and don't understand why more companies don't try and sell what is effectively their wastage

I would imagine they are going wait until the waters warmed up, more people are out on the bank and a lot more fishing is being done with it, to get a better idea of what it's actually like. My guess would be you'll see it on general release ready for the big autumn munch up.
Bare in mind you are pretty much using a finished bait anyway. It's not like if you called abs and said “I think it needs a bit more x or y that they are going to change their mix. This isn't a bait development stage, this is bait testing so it must be pretty much ready to go as it is.

Just had an 18lb common on Matts pink Plum n squid and black mamba bottom bait again as a single. Only been here an hour and lake is fishing 'hard' apparently. Just put some of the test bait in but I've kinda mixed it with hydra k on the other spots.
It's a little bit light in colour for me to use on it's own (darker baits have been working for me recently) but we will see, a mix of dark and light. The actual bait is lush can't see my Mr carp wouldn't want to eat it if it's in the right place

Carbohydrate type bait as Geoff calls them, milks, some tiger nut flour, liquid chocolate flavour and tutti fruity some kind of new digestion aid that breaks down the protein of the bait I believe.

Landed my first fish on it yesterday. The lake had been netted 72 hours before that and fishing was expected to be tough! Already built alot of comfidence in this bait but then again, I have with all of the products I use from ABS!
I always said it would take alot for me to move away from The Cell.(at one point I said I wouldn't go fishing if I couldn't use Cell) I have caught so many fish including my PB of 56lb 8oz's in France using it. However, I now think I might have found a bait to replace it. It's early days but I'm VERY impressed!

The cell was engineered by abs so no surprises to me. Mainline baits are a great at marketing never felt the need to use them as I've always used a bait that works and is better than theirs but hey I can't fault the approach there have, very much like Richworth. Pile it in and it will do well. Can't fault them or thier users it's a confidence thing.
Yet I was happy to use SBS RH JB Prem ABS NB and of course RW never did well using ML but then never really tried.
ABS is quaility but then I've sat behind various products scratching my head and wondering why I ain't catching. Possibly me using a bait that's not working at the time or purely tough luck.
Struggled with lobster black snail a fews year ago and yet prems Matrix Stim was killing it. Odd game really.

I'm not one of these anglers who uses a bait because it's used by the korda boys or marketed heavily. I don't follow the crowd, I use something I have 100% confidence in and for a long time Cell was that bait for me!
Very interested to hear ABS egineered The Cell originally. Is that a fact?
I also use another custom mix from ABS and I honestly cannot stop catching fish on it. I know 100% nobody uses that mix on my club waters and its taking it apart, working right the way through the year.
I'm not saying after 1 fish I know everything I need to know about this bait as I think it'll take at least 1 full season for me to have that 100% confidence but the early signs are good and I am happy to leave The Cell at home to give this new bait a fair crack

Not really. Geoff put them onto an ingredient/ mix. They still had to formulate a bait from it that would roll through their machines etc. Plus how was he to know that korda would promote the hell out of it? I bet he's given loads of people the nod on stuff over the years and they've done nothing with it.
Now if he knew what it was gonna go on to do that would make it one hell of a feck up
Mind you I don't think any one of us would mind being a pound behind mr bowers. In fact I wouldn't mind being a million pound behind him. I'm sure he's not that bothered. Plus have you stopped to think where mainline might have bought their brococell from?

It's just an ingredient, it doesn't make every carp swim from one side of the lake to eat it! I love brocacel and yeasts but it's only a very small part of an effective bait. You have to hand it to mainline for how they promote their products and who they use to punt it. I do find it odd how they took all this time to bring out a fishmeal!! Geoff was around at just the right time and got hold of some really good fishmeals and lots of anglers went through Geoff to buy many things. If only he'd got Facebook in 1986😂😂😂😂

one of mainline original mixes was a Pro-fish, they had a GLM mix ( was a good bait) and there's liver and marine still going and think NRG was originally a milk protein/ carb type mix (90's) which disappeared then the other NRG came out

Interesting reading this, first thing I used to do with all going baits is find them in the shop and understand what the the ingredients were.
Activ 8 had fishmeal and pretty basic claimed ingredients really, which used to surprise me really, very basic, I used to to thing the activator was the key...
If you look at a lot of mainline mixes they ain't exacltey ooozing top quality ingredients, so what's doing the business...

It is on a website or forum. You wrote it not long ago on here. Your 'mate' told you, you said there in those posts. If your 'mate' rolled Mainline Activ-8 for 15 years, and did not know that there is fishmeal in there... Well, that's hard to understand. It's easy to understand how someone who had only smelt the bait completed, might think that. The activator hums. But anyone with any knowledge of bait, whom has put eggs near Activ-8 base mix... They know that it is a fishmeal.
We roll our baits with no liquids in. The Activ-8 base mix is a fishmeal. It has a proportion of fishmeal in there, without any question. No one has ever told me that, it's just very plain to see. Do you want me to actually send you a bag of Activ-8 base mix? You can have a smell yourself. Then come back and tell me again, that your mate, and the internet says that it is not a fishmeal?

Active 8 def had fishmeal in it, when I mucked about with it around 2000/2001. Maybe not at the 40 to 50% levels of Geoffs mixes, but at lower levels, but it was noticeable by taste, texture and smell. Prov66 and Liver/ Keramine I thought, could not detect any PDF though.

I don't know EXACTLEY what is in them unfortunately so cant give a honest comment.
I have rolled and used Activ8 like I already posted and I know that the base mix ingredients were pretty basic that's why I came to the conclusion it was the liquid that was the real attractant, but its probably the combination in reality. Activ as in fermentation, yeasts, sugar products, CSL etc. active... What's the white coating that they develop...
Happy to be wrong, I'm sure Mark or somebody can shed some more light on this?
I know the ABS baits have yeasts, carbs and sugars in them, the nut range, the I Bait is supercharged with them, I spoke to them the other month about their bait

The Grange bait from Mainline contained fish meal.
It's the whole package that makes these baits whether they contain expensive or cheap ingredients.

Ok so I quickly went on the mainline page and looked for active 8 basemix. It says that activate is not a fishmeal but contains 8 ingredients some of which are new to carp fishing. Can anyone shed some light on this. I'm not trying to start ww3 mark just stating what I always thought and was told was a mix of semo, soy, maize and additives. I find it odd that they say on the page it's not a fishmeal. I can find out for certain tomorrow

Ok so I can shed some light on the argument. I am wrong and apparantly active 8 did have a tiny amount of fishmeal. There was an article about mainline not using fishmeal around the same time which is why I always thought they didn't use it. The web page says it's not a fishmeal hence why I always thought that was the case. I will hold my hands aloft on this occasion. The lad I know from mainline said it was grange that defo did not contain fishmeal (that was csl semo etc). Apologies mark, no need for ww3

So yesterday on the way home my phone rings and its a number i dont recognise, a chap on the other end sounds just like mr hearn himself. He asks about buying some particle and then goes on to say that a well known friend that we have in between (and this bit was true) has been singing our praises and that he loves one of my baits blah blah. Then he says he is thinking about leaving dynamite and looking for a new deal and i start getting all excited thinking that we have finaly hit the big time and all my hard work is paying off..........turns out it was my fishing buddy calling off his works mobile and him and his mates are pissing themselves in the background
i totally fell for it
I guess what goes around comes around

Either, put any decent bait in front of a fish and they will eat it.

One of the baits I use from this company is a fishmeal based bait in stabilised form (shelf life) never had a problem with it at all. I have used there baits for a very long time now and have no issues with using Frozen or Shelf Life baits from ABS.

I made my own bait years ago, I still make my own hookbaits, it's not a case of being lazy. I don't have dry storage anymore for the sacks of ingredients. I can buy bait of decent enough quality to catch me fish for an affordable price.
