I don't usually post on topics like this but i'm making an exception for this one. A remarkable man and angler, had a massive influence on how i fished back in the day (and often do these days)
One article in particular stuck in my mind - it was all about rig disguise, subtlety, not letting your quarry know it was being fished for. Soft braid hooklinks, pinning mainline to the floor, setting up quietly and so on.
Recently i've been making the effort to line align my rigs "properly" rather than use a kicker, will carry on doing so as a bit of a tribute to the great man.
Very sad news. Rest in peace Jim.

hi all
looking for recommendations for day ticket waters in Kent / surrounds for 48 hours with my fishing buddy, size of fish not so vital but must have
- reasonably spaced swims
- reasonably scenic
Cottington fully booked for when we're going so don't suggest that.
ideas fellas please
thanks

to me it isn't the thickness / thinness that's the issue, its weight and flexibility. Use a decent tungsten tubing and it will settle right down snugly on the bottom. I've been using ESP Tungsten for a while and it's easy to thread, supple and heavy, job done.

i don't use leaders but i know plenty that do, good anglers that I have very very rarely seen have a breakage. They're not in the same league as this monstrosity.
I am finding this whole thing very disconcerting. Its a death trap plain and simple - and it's aimed at anglers that still don't really understand the difference between a safe rig and a dangerous rig to start with! i still see people on day ticket waters tying the hooklink direct to the eye of the swivel - what chance have we got of those anglers stopping to think logically about using the twig? none whatsoever.
snags on things in the lake easily
snags in the net easily (even by Ali's own admission)
won't detach in the event of a break
It's all very very sad that he even brought this to market - even more sad now he's defending the indefensible. Perhaps the way forward is to boycott en masse any outlets selling it and take your business elsewhere. That will make the retailers think.

really???????????
of course it is. What other item that we sling out
1. doesn't detach fairly easily from the business end in the event of a breakage
2. definitely acts like a rake and "wants" to gather crap on the retrieve if it's been activated.
This really is a total no brainer surely?

what amazes me is that they ever brought this to market. Surely at the product development meetings some experienced angler in the group would have said "hang on a minute....." or does AH have such sway that it just got forced through, who knows.

i think the people posting on here about hating Ali are completely barking up the wrong tree. I have absolutely no issue with him whatsoever. My view is entirely based on this product and the harm that will inevitably come from using it.
Cottington Lakes has banned them for the time being - good. Seems there's a growing groundswell of opinion here that logic based, not emotionally based, that this just isn't a thing we should be tying on the end of our lines.
