Just sat and watched latest baitworks European adventure video .

I really enjoy these and the fact they aren't too in your face ...

My reason for posting is that during the film on one of the Dutch lakes the lads describe how a Dutch angler is 'snorkelling' his baits out to his spots ???

Is that a step too far ??

In my opinion it takes the Michael ...,

Been happening for years. Wasn't there a guy called Scuba Sid (possibly Dutch as well) who was doing this on, maybe, Cassien and other waters years and years ago? Can't see that it's any different from using a boat and scope personally. Albeit a bit more risky perhaps.

I don't use a bait boat , boat and scope ... or drone in my angling ... does that make me old fashioned πŸ‘€

I prefer a lead or at a push a marker float ..

Each to there own of course, I just found it mad on a Dutch park lake ..

Exactly that, each to their own, not something I would do personally but I do use a boat, scope, echo etc in my European fishing (where allowed of course). Is it any different to wading a bait out & using your polaroids to find a nice spot? Drones & bait boats... i think that's different again! In this case the guy is using his hands / body etc to position a bait and freebies. No technology used at all. I don't know whether that makes it acceptable or not! Fair play to him. It must take some skill to do that!

We all do that in holland, even in the midst of winter. Much cheaper than a bait boat and all that.

Will have a look, always funny to see british anglers mostly struggling in holland. And this is not a smear or whatever, i'm sure it's the same the other way around, angling is angling but the circumstances can make you scratch your head.

So if you play golf but instead of driving the ball with a club you carry it safely to 3 ft from the hole ready to putt ??
That's golf is it ....

🀣🀣 I'll stick to using watercraft and angling ability of 43 years to catch my fish

An old friend of mine who was a kid at the time used to charge a pound to swim people's baits out to their precise spots, usually on a top of a bar. Obviously a summer holiday job only, health and safety was non existent then. You aren't allowed to wade on that lake today. Oh the fun we had in our youth. The fun police would arrest us all today.

And going back further in time, early/mid 80's the legendary nigel & Robert stock...the twins who absolutely destroyed longfield by placing baits using goggles underwater

@westmidsmoaner - There's always that one "know-it-all" who believes their way of catching fish is the only right way.

I've seen many anglers in Europe, fishing some of the wildest and most demanding lakes the scene has to offer, hand-place their baits using a snorkelling mask. Why does that make their captures any less significant than those achieved using your preferred methods? They've still had to locate productive areas, read the water, and apply all the watercraft skills you refer to. Yet, when the opportunity presents itself, hand-placing a bait is suddenly frowned upon.

Anglers on these types of waters are simply maximising their chances of success. They're often targeting the fish of a lifetime in venues that most people wouldn't even consider fishing. These are rarely local lakes, and with only a limited amount of time available before the trip ends, it makes sense to use every legitimate advantage at their disposal.

Hand-placing baits is not bad angling or poor practice. If anything, it's quite the opposite. It allows anglers to position their rigs safely and precisely, ensuring they are presented exactly as intended. Being able to see how a rig settles provides confidence, which can be invaluable on such challenging waters.

Is this approach necessary on every venue? Of course not. Most waters don't require such an extreme tactic. However, there are situations where it's entirely justified. It's no different from the way anglers fish venues like Rainbow, where lines are often routed around islands and through unconventional features. On most lakes, those tactics would be questioned, yet at Rainbow they're accepted because, in certain swims, they're necessary and have become standard practice.

Different waters demand different approaches. The best anglers recognise that and adapt accordingly rather than insisting there's only one correct way to fish.

If you have 43 years of angling experience to draw upon, you'll also remember that during the 1980s and early 1990s, many anglers swam out and regularly hand-placed baits, even on relatively small UK waters. You only have to look back at the writings of anglers such as Terry Dempsey and Terry Hearn to see examples of this.

Just because it's not a tactic you would choose to use personally doesn't mean it doesn't have a time and a place. Angling has always been about adapting to the circumstances in front of you, and different waters often require different approaches. Dismissing a method simply because it falls outside of your own preferences doesn't make it any less valid or effective.

The only problem I have with someone swimming there baits out. Is when they start charging for the service..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰

As mentioned in previous posts. It's been happening for years. If you've read Terry Dempseys book. He often mention swimming baits out on a lot of the public parks he fished as a kid. A well know angler at the time on a water I was fishing as a kid, was always doing it. I'd think you'd probably see more anglers doing these days. If it weren't for the fact a lot of waters are better policed.. Good angling in my book..πŸ’ͺπŸ‘

As has been mentioned it's been happening for decades on the continent, probably because they also do a lot of what we call 'wind swimming' (stupid term).

The thing that gets me watching some of the Nash vids for eg...it's one thing swimming baits out in near gin clear waters, it's another in dirty water :-X...just stupid!

I'd be very wary of doing it on a regularly fished lake without taking a knife or scissors with me, Imagine getting a barbed size 2 on a shock leader, or a large treble on heavy braid in your toe joint...could be pretty hairy 😱

It could be a bad memory but im sure im rightπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ a named angler on MKF water getting banned years ago for placing rigs and bait whilst swimming on a lilo. I think it was the Pan lake.
