I had a go with the 13ft rod in a field. If you want out and out distance then for £150 or whatever they will go for then must be hard to beat. 170 was very achievable (12lb line without a rig) and my casting isn't great. Go further with less effort than my Aviators at a third of the price. Can't tell you how they are to actually fish with but they will get a lead out there no problem.

Braided leader, 4.5oz lead. Not how I'd want to fish but works for distance. I've never used the TX2 so can't compare. What surprised me about the Korda rods was the weight, expected them to be a heavy rod but they were fine.

If I was spending my own money on budget rods I'd be spending 60 quid each on the new Sonik heros.
I reckon Sonik have sewn up the cheaper end value rods market and at the same time killed the market for higher end rods.
Fair play to them it's about time someone ripped up the rulebook.

90% of Wychwood rods are sub £100 so Sonik haven't dominated the market.

I could cast my Solace Classics just as far as my Freespirit E Class Gold and there 1/4 of the price.

I think sonik eg xtractors or insurgent have there place cheap enough to leave in boot of car so not to worried if they get nicked or good as a Holliday rod river lake or even sea fishing
But not in the same world as free spirit or Harrison and others
And as for the Korda green there's a reason there cheap

Ok when did you last try to sell some high end rods then.
My Daiwa infinitys which are mint and cost me a bargain 400 quid each have been on tackletrader for months and aren't selling.
Could be that they are sh*te (which they aren't)
Could be that the country as a whole is bolloxed and no one has any money to spend.
Or it may be that you can buy way cheaper rods now with slightly less performance.
I bet if you ask a retailer how many bargain bucket rods they sell compared to Harrison... Free spirit etc it'll be 100 to 1.

I think what your saying is that the bubble has burst this £400 to £500 a rod is absolutely ridiculous the same as most of carp fishing tackle this £1000.00 for a bivvy I think a lot of people feel it's a rip off I've heard loads of people on here saying
So if other companies are making decent tackle a lot cheaper then good luck to them it's about time the others had a big wake up
I see a hoodie for £100 there treating us as idiots

In one way or another you get what you pay for, what one rod will offer in distance it will lack in another department - not responsive when playing a fish or being heavy. Some will come apart after a season or two where cheaply built won't last.

Having had lots of sets of rods over the years, I would say from experience get a rod that suits your needs - be it distance requirements, buy price or quality.

Jeff built me a set of rods recently, stunning finish and simply just quality. I am confident they will last for 20yrs as I look after my kit, and they will give me 10 x the pleasure in using them for what I paid for them (same as off the shelf price for exactly how I wanted them personally).

Very seldom does a more expensive rod catch you more fish unless for specific circumstances like fishing at extreme distances, fish with the rods you have got until you can save to buy the rods you desire if that's what you want out of it all.

Most of all enjoy yourself 👍

The market for high end rods is busier than ever. You just have to look at the waiting times to get custom rods built to see there still as popular as ever. Mass produced daiwa rids do go for very much second hand.

Where? I am not into these rods (I have Harrisons) but like someone else wrote, people would just return them.

I've been on ebay and they have these roads on there, but they are new rods, sold by shops.

I'm no massive fan of Korda at all, but is this really happening already?

Not used these but have viewed them in a shop. the feel cheap. Which they are so fully expected but based just on feel and materials used I'd say these are a tier below the tx2.

On what basis could you return them and want your money back? You don't like them? Not a valid reason to return something unless you can prove they aren't fit for purpose, which is very subjective.

Not the greens but sure i've seen on John Hennessy web page that he's done custom kaizens for both Damien Clarke and Tom Dove. If they don't use the factory built rods wheat does it tell you about the components being used and aren't they the same rings etc on the greens, its just the blank that's different.

If they have purchased from a shop and changed their mind then the shop doesn't have to accept the return ,hence why they could be for sale privately.

I think they do....especially if via mail order, (distance selling regs).....

Surely if anyone was buying from a shop they would make certain they were fully happy before going to the checkout......

TFT's returns are quite black and white;

To be entitled to a full refund or exchange, we must have received the returned item in unused condition in the original packaging within 30 days of you taking delivery.

I purchased a £2K BaitBoat a couple of years ago from TFT, decided it was too big and asked them if I could return it. They refunded without any issue whatsoever....

If I had to fish consistently over 120 yards I would take the Korda rods over the Aviators, even at the same money. Would prefer smaller guides, but who really cares. So much b**locks written about rods and reels, they are just a tool for a job.

I don't blame a rod builder for perpetuating the myth that a carp rod needs to be anything but a half decent bit of bendy carbon for slinging leads as far as the fish. We all have bills to pay. It's the people who eat it up and regurgitate.

Fly rods are obviously different.

I'd feel like less of a plonker sitting in the Uno so I'd probably take that. We're all different.

In this case yes, as I already have a set of Aviators. As a tool to cast a baited rig beyond 120/30 yards the cheap Kaizen are (in my experience) a better rod than the Aviator. The rings are junk, they don't have a tarty weave, but they will put a lead a long way accurately and easily.

As I said earlier, I was in a field, so didn't play a fish, but a load of old cobblers is spoken about fish playing action too.

Don't get me wrong, I was also under the impression that you had to pay a guy in a shed £1300 to get three good casting rods. I've paid that or around that for several sets of rods over the years. I'd never tried a cheap set of casting rods.

All I'm saying is that for long range *casting* these £120 rods perform at least as well and in my case I found them better.

To get tackle that does a great job you don't have to spend tons of money these days. If you want to be flash it's always going to be more expensive.

I'd agree and disagree with that. Some casting rods perform way better than others. But I'd do the same. Only because if I was fishing stupid ranges week in week out I'd rather blow up a set of £300 rods than £1300.

And the abuse they take id happily push the cheaper rods to there limits. But if money was no object I'd use the better material and better tool for the job.

Agree you don't have to spend tons of money....but with all due respect, although there are some very good budget rods around, (I personally love the Shimano TX2) you know the difference.

You sure your rods are actually aviators!?

Imo the proper kaizens aren't a patch on a set of aviators.

Also, my rod builder has some real reservations about the quality of the blanks and fittings (particularly reel seat spacers) after rebuilding two sets (although they were because of customer preferences, not failures etc)

The only other person I know rates the kaizens over the aviators is Terry Edmunds, and his alliances change with the wind. Unbelievable caster but he is to rods, what Jim shelly is to bait.

Just to follow this up, I picked up a set of the 12' 4lb greens last week and tried them out today. For comparison, I normally use a set of century NCS 12' 3.5lb.

Casting wise, very good indeed even with my crap technique. I had a couple of fish to mid twenties and they are fine under the tip and at the net, though I'm sure I was being overly cautious.
Cosmetically, they are fine, understated, not offensive. As a tool to cast a long way for little money, they are certainly worth look.

For 120 quid, I'm impressed.

I watched a Korda shorts clip of Terry Edmonds on Instagram at the weekend casting 10' foot 4lb greens as he'd been asked how far he could cast them in a fishing situation.

He setup with tapered Longchuck 12 to 30lb a 4oz distance lead with a baited rig and banged them out into a very strong headwind, he wrapped up at 25 then 28 then 30 and hit all those on the clip easily finally after 3 chucks at 33 wraps on his 3rd attempt he hit the clip, I would imagine without the headwind as it was blowing quite well and easy to see that he would of done 33 wraps quite easily as well and probably gone a fair bit further although he did add he didn't feel comfortable at the upper range and would advise stepping up to the 12 foot in that scenario for anything more where range was important when trying to get further, for a bottom end rod they look like they would do a job for some on a tight budget in all lengths and test curves.

I didn't elude to comparing what he can do to all other anglers that's why I said would do a job for "some" he's not the only angler capable of casting big distances there are plenty of anglers that can cast a lead that may only have a small budget that could make the most of a rod like this, theres also plenty that can afford top end custom builds that still couldn't cast past 100 yrds horses for courses and all that.

Was in a tackle shop today to compare the Flex to 3.25 C2's and picked up a Kaizen Green to see how it compared and I thought it felt better than both the Harrison and Century rods!

So without hating DF, Korda or their fans is there any one got any feedback on these these in real life because £ 350 for 3 rods rather than each would leave a lot of money in the bank for bait or towards a decent ticket?

Cheers

Terry Edmonds is a great casting coach, and long distance caster. However I wouldn't take his advice on buying a rod. Casting a rod I will hang on every word. I've learnt a lot from watching his vids. Funny how every new rod is the best ever, yet people long for the stuff made years ago.

I've watched some of the vids on YouTube, tbh I'll never try and cast that far or follow what someone like that says. Impressive though 👍

The only vid that stood out was DF saying most of the components on the green are the same as the platinum, just different carbon.

I did wiggle a platinum too out of interest and felt as light as the green - don't think I could have told the difference if they didn't have different coloured logo's.

And as (I believe) they are both Daiwa blanks I dont think I could go far wrong especially as I've been preparing to spend nearly a bag on two rods so these could save me enough for a holiday 😂😂

I've posted my initial thoughts below. Now I've had them a couple of months and had a load more use, I can confirm I like ‘em.
When I originally bought them I thought that if I don't like them, I'll punt them on, as you'll not lose big money given the purchase price.

I brought a set of the 12.6ft 4lb as some of my fishing is range and didn't want to break the bank. I will say for such a heavy test curve I have had to really pull some fish away from rocks in a lake and have found them good for this as was worried I pull the hooks out. I find them a bit heavy in weight but it's not like I am holding them for that long really.

Just bumping this up.

Considering a set of the 10ft 3lb Kaizens for a small water I fish. Any user reports?

What about the handle length, is this a full length on the 10ft model? Really don't like the short/stubby handles you get on some 10ft rods.

Cheers

I've used mine a couple of times now, I went for 3lb 12ft.

Cast really well up to about 70 yards with a 2.5oz lead and play fish well too. May get a bit further with a bigger lead, but that's not what I wanted them for.

YAC only had two in stock and they've just taken a new delivery so I'll be popping over to pick up my third rod this week or next.

Price vs performance - I'm well chuffed 👍.

Anyone fishing with these rods in 3.5 tc looking at buying a full set up and they suite my pocket although I'm not a fair brass fan boy. I am torn between 3lb and the 3.5.

Brought a set of the 12ft 6 in June and really like them. Can really punch a lead out with them and not like a broom to play fish on.

I got rid pretty quick in the end.

I found the 3lb too soft, I could only accurately get a 2.5 Oz lead about 60 yards. I probably should have got a higher tc to start, but ended up going with something else instead that I've been very happy with.

The Green was nice to play a fish on though

Hi

How do you find the 4lb for playing fish close in?

I mainly fish pva bags and managed to shear the tip off of one of my Nash Pursuit 3.5lb. But I always found them a bit soft. So considering three of the 4lb12ft Greens as a replacement and will sell the two undamaged pursuits I have left.

Thanks

Ashley

Thanks

I bought a set of these for using in France (not actually been yet though), used them a few times and they seem fine, not as nice to play fish on as my Terry Hearns 3.25's but I never expected them to. Had fish to upper twenties that have had to be ‘coached' out of weed beds and they dealt with them perfectly. Not really had to hit a lead with them but up to 100yds they've been fine with 3.5oz leads.
Really can't complain for the price, they seem quite light for factory built rods in that price range.

I found the 3.5lb absolutely fine mate.My Harrisons 3.25lb are clearly better quality, but I'm a very average caster and I found hitting similar distances with the greens really easy.Had a couple of fish on them and felt pretty good too, having expected them to be like broom handles, they definitely weren't.

Seeing some massive deals on Korda Kaizen Green rods x 3 with money off and the free 5 rod holdall...

Are they lining up another rod? Or are sales struggling?

I don't think the rod sales are struggling I think the divide rod bag is though. It's odd they haven't brought out a dark kamo version and I've heard from a few that they don't trust their rods in them.

A mate of mine has the 13 x 4lb and really rates them.

I'm struggling big time with the whole range, I don't have them and have never owned them as have always believed in quality of carbon and have dismissed low end rods but Korda have blown this myth apart it seems.

You can get them for £100 so you have to assume retailers are paying £60 at the most, that means Korda are getting these landed in the country for about £30... maybe £40. That's blank, eyes, reel seat, make up and shipping.... Absolute madness.

Your thinking is way way in the past, the quality of rods you can get for round the 100 mark now is top notch. I have a set of Gardner coverts, and they are nicer to use than a set Of Bruce Ashby TE . Evolution brings cost down and puts quality up imho, I work in aerospace and see this all the time.

Absolutely I get the point - the but for me is that you have rods at £600 and rods at £100 and from what you are saying minimal difference. I'm not talking yesteryear I'm saying now. Why would anyone choose Platinums when these are virtually 3 for the price of 1?

There was a few on here that know all about blanks rod building etc that get shot down talking about it . If people are happy to pay £100 for a rod thats upto them . Some good blanks being produced in china . Some not all. ***** guides poor whipping cheap glues and resins i could go on and on . No point .

I think rod discussion can be up there with bait discussion. There are some that see them for what they may be, a long bit of carbon that puts a bait where you want it and pulls it in with or without fish. Or an artisan craft.

Cheap bait (pellet and corn) and cheap rods (kaizen green) arguably catch as many fish as rods that cost £2K a set or bait that costs £12 a Kg or £1 a hookbait.

Neither should be shut down as rubbish and both make interesting discussion if that's what you are into (or make your living from)
