We need James Cameron back to raise the bar on a very unpleasant and illegal form of angling. The commission of a light to identify the locations of carp at night is filthy behaviour and one which is outlawed through SAFA 1975 s1 a) . There are now two YT videos where youths are slinking around lakes with torches at night with the aim of spotting carp. You aren't my brofva pal.
I've seen a few videos going around one as well not long ago lamping for Perch.

Depends on how the word 'Taking' is interpreted within that piece of legislation, and reading further down it also appears that the washing line setup would fall foul of this legislation if 'Taking' means simply catching.

Trying to tie it to that legislation is a load of old cobblers unless we should all be leaving our headtorches at home.
I do agree that having some moron with a high powered headtorch lamping in the night while other anglers are fishing is poor conduct. This guy also likes to present himself as Mr old school etiquette, seems like that is until there is a pound note in it for the boss.

This thread is a bit cryptic for me, who's this guy and how do I find these videos that are mentioned?

NASH got a YT video of Oli, lamping, so no millennials/Gen Z
Not sure how shining a headtorch in the edge(after dark) to observe carp is offensive, as long as no other anglers are disturbed in the process

One guy doing it when nobody else is around is one thing.
Plugging it on YouTube as the latest method for all the dimwits to copy, just to sell ultra bright head torches is something else.
Maybe the carp anglers in Sweden have more than 3 brain cells, over here I'm afraid that is not a given.

I have not bought a carp magazine for about the past 10 years, so it was a long time ago, but someone wrote an article in a magazine about locating carp on a canal on a night by looking for them with a torch so it is nothing knew.
When I go for logs for the fire up top of garden on a night, I always shine my torch into the garden pond to see what my carp are up too and it does not disturb them, probably used to lights coming on and off from house windows etc.
But what caught my attention was, their is a clear pattern in their habits, all the fish have their own little spot in the pond where they would be, even down to facing in the same direction, night after night. Very peculiar.

Modern Humans have a knack of turning everything to sh1t. Left to their own devices there is no knowing where these commercial drug & drink addled oiks will take carp fishing if allowed by the populace. Ask yourself, where will it end? Having a fair understanding of how carp are now treated I'm finding it much harder to defend it. I'm very lucky to have my own waters (rivers and still-water) and access to a few of the remaining places where no exploitation occurs.

Totally agree, mate
Parasites infiltrate where there´s money to be had
Sweden is the exact opposite, and i hope it remains so
- NO media hype or mainstream social media influencers regurgitating everything carpy.
- NO overcrowded day ticket waters
- MINIMAL work done to swims, which are ca 99% left natural, since cutting a branch off a tree
on public property is prohibited. Private syndicates, on the other hand, do minimal work, but
keep swims as natural as possible.
- NO need for booking swims, so bucket system is non-existent, as 9 times outta 10, you
usually turn up to a lake, and mostly likely would be the only angler on there for afew nights.
Natural carp angling experience in the wild. Park lakes do have their setbacks, but you learn to adapt to the hustle and bustle. Stalking is done during daylight hours, and never at night, so "lamping" is unheard of, as far as i know.
Baitboats are allowed on certain syndicates, but strict rules about encroaching on other swims.
Common sense & general etiquette is the norm, and minimal disturbance, especially after dark

It's certainly nothing new, used to do it on the Leeds & Liverpool back in the 90's - only for location thou for pre-baiting, in the stretch I used to target it was 10 miles between locks. It was pretty much impossible to find them during the day as the water was so coloured up from boat traffic.
They don't “Spook” once illuminated, once read that it's because their eyes are much slower to differentiate between light & dark than mammals.
Would never dream of doing it in a fishing situation thou, you're just asking for trouble.

Echo that, it has been done for years but it sounds like it's the flavour of the month now lol
Can't see a problem with it myself unless they are disturbing other people swims or lighting up the banks all night. Like most things in life, everything in moderation is fine, enter the dickhead, different story

Ah yes 'enter the dickhead' ....
the less successful sequel to the bruce lee classic.
Set in Essex and culminating in the legendary 'pub car park battle' complete with vauxhall corsas and supporting actress shouting 'leave it Kevin, just leave it!'

Zero respect for nature not just fish inhabit these waterways. The promotion of this activity on YouTube will only encourage bad behaviour, it's very difficult to impose guidelines and assume everyone will work within them.
Folk forget how lucky they are just to go fishing.
The catch at all costs brigade...

I used to regularly arrive at the lake long after darkness had fallen.
Nothing wrong with walking quietly round a lake with a headlight, but it must NOT affect other anglers.
I even confess to setting up when there was no-one else on the lake or nearby using my car headlights
It is far easier to lower a bait into the margins than cast towards an island.

I remember fishing a canal section of around 2 mile between locks and had a 20.8 mirror out then a 19.4 common out and a few weeks later was back down there again and a chap I'd spoke to while I was down there fishing previously decided to turn up as it was just getting dark and started shining a light over the far bank trees to get his lead there he was literally 10' away from my bivvy and decided to do a night and I blanked 😡😡😡 due to him shining a very bright torch around,of all that stretch of canal he set up by me.
It's the equivalent of an empty bus and someone sits next to you for no reason 😂😂😂

I can only imagine a lake packed with “carpers” all with the must have screwfix ultrabrite LED spotlight being the weapon of choice for the weapons

Might be a market for dim headtorchers
All the lakes I fish are busy with few swims unoccupied. There would be ructions if some knobhead went around with a bright torch. Imagine you have a bait under a treeline expecting a run before dawn and some pratt is bouncing through the bondoo adjacent. It's not going to end well.

Think it was some time last year I watched a Nash video led by their No1 poster boy AB. He was singing the praises of using a powerful headtorch to locate and i assume fish for spotted carp . Nothing new there but what irked me about it was , the venue I question was a stretch of the GUC,I know quite well and is a no fishing zone for various reasons..Admittedly it didn't show him actually fishing the stretch, but the implication was there. The Perch lamping was an offering by Alfie Russel. Interesting yes...totally ethical...... that's down to the individual..not for me tho.
