I'm losing the will to live waiting for a reply for a dymag net,ive text the number just asking if he is still doing them, emailed him...I havent phoned as I work nights and would want to disturb him at weekends o in the evening, so my question is which net if not dymag.dont mind paying for quality.

I've got a dymag and got to be honest wouldn't swap it for anything. However if I couldn't get hold of him I'd be seriously looking at the solar p1 bow loc net it looks a lovely bit of kit

Chris brown without a doubt, very very well made net at a reasonable price

Have never handle a dymag so can't offer any comparison - but is it worth 'making your own'? I have used a matrix 3k pole, weston spreader, bulldog arms and a freespirit mesh - only comes in at 35g more than the dymag mk3 and is plenty stiff enough.

He wont be getting the blanks from harrisons at the moment for the handles, that does,nt stop him answering you. All builders are struggling getting supplies its very frustrating. I have just had a load of spreader blocks machined for me , got a box full of nets delivered but only a couple of torrix blanks and arms turned up !!! I know a few builders who are not taking any more orders until things get back to normal as they cant give assurances on how long it will take to complete an order.
Edit Chris brown nets every bit as good.

I'm in my 70s s and it's no effort to hold it st arms length

Brader's if one came up on eBay how much do you think it would go for and no I'm not selling before anyone asks

i wanted a dymag net too andy but when i saw the trouble people were having trying to get one i looked at alternatives, the next lightest net i could find was the matrix bulldog 2, as you know i've bought one, it is light but if i was making the decision again i think i'd just go for another fox net and save myself 80 odd quid

There was a thread on here a while back about contact issues with Dymag - I've emailed him a few times and had no response over the last 12-18 months.
As I understand it the fishing side of dymag is very much secondary to making car parts. I wonder if he is focusing on the car side of things and has stopped the fishing side?

I'd try phoning if I was you.
I've got a Mk2 and a Mk3 and love both of them, they'd literally be the last thing I'd sell and that'd be only if I was about to lose my house or something!
They are amazing bits of kit, I'd have been happy with the Mk2 forever but I got bought a personalised Mk3 as a 40th Birthday present last year (lucky me!)

I too sold my dymag net as i was offered silly money for it .it was the 2 piece stalker.picked up a cb one cheap 36 net .I now make my own with torrix handle and arms machined spreader stainless pins etc . Dymag ,chris,s, harrisons all as good as each other .chris uses some weird coloured whipings , graeme does a little drawing on his .I do like my net to match rods though.
Shame the Terry Hearn net isn't available. The ESP net isn't as bling as the Dymag - I've got the stalker version with the extension - I'd say it's just as light with super stiff arms that don't behave like a blancmange. Really rate the Terry Hearn net.
Mentioned it before on here when nets crop up in conversation, JRC's net they do for around £60 is proper, has a two piece handle and very stiff arms like the Dymag and Terry Hearn's net. For the money, I think you can't best it and apart from the fancy looks of the two expensive nets I've mentioned, it's right up there.

I had the newer JRC two piece one for a cheap boat net. Not too bad when using one section crouched down in the boat but floppy as hell when used at full length. Then the brass threaded lug in the end fell out and it went in the bin.

Yeah, it is the Xlite.
The build quantity and fancy look of the Dymag are worlds apart, exquisite sums up Dymag, functionally, flex wise, there's not much in it. Obviously the Dymag won't flex as much as it's got a reversed tapered handle.
At a guess I'd say the Dymag is lighter. I rarely use my Dymag simply because it's such a work of art. Mad eh?

I have never really looked at Chris Brown nets, had a look at their website after this thread mentioned them.
Whilst I don't doubt they are good nets they look awful in the pictures, in a age where everything is slim line/stealth/blingy they remind me more of a cheapo argos net from 20 years ago.
Do they look better in the flesh or is it a case of being so good that it doesn't matter that they don't look trendy?

I have a Chris Brown 42" with the extended handle it's a bit "agricultural" looking and the handle is a lot thicker than most. However it does the job and doesn't droop like a lot of nets. I needed a second net and got a good deal on a Rod Hutchinson Dreamaker with the extendable handle. Very pleased with it so far although it's only been used once. So can't comment on how it will last. I know the C.B. net is not going to break accidentally. In fact I would struggle to break it on purpose.

No they dont look any better in the flesh but its probably the strongest most bullet proof net that you can buy. If you want a tarty super thin floppy net that you just care how it looks then look elsewhere but if you want a no bull**** net that will out last you the the cb net is the one to go for.

As I fish quiet remote swims no point being a tackle tart.
As Mark Stuart and Ian have indicated function over fashion every time.

When I went to Tate Modern my wife told me that I had to be on my best behaviour or she would lose it.
I walked around trying to be appreciative. After about an hour I was looking in a room at the installation, then the description, then the art and looking confused.
Eventually she asked, "What is it? What's wrong?"
I said something like, "I'm confused, this is described as being red acrylic but it looks like metal to me".
The security guard burst out laughing.
Apparently I was looking at an air conditioning vent in the floor not the art work that was behind me!
I literally couldn't work out what was the building and what was the art!
But back to Dymag, why do they have a reverse taper on their handles? If it is so good why has no one else copied it?

Regarding no one else using the reverse taper - it always baffles me why harrison would supply this superior net handle to dymag rather than just use it, or an upgraded version of it, on their own nets.
Surely marketing it themselves would effectively cut out dymag as the middle man and maximise their profits

My understanding is with the reverse taper is the thicker part of the pole is at the net end where all the weight is therefore making it more stable and less floppy

The bulk of the weight is at the net end sure, but it's all supported at the handle end, that's the end under the highest strain

Only thing I can add to it is that I've had a lot and I mean a lot of nets with either a normal taper or no taper and none of been as stable as the dymag can't comment on the Chris brown but people seem to say a similar thing. For me the dymag had come into its own in really bad weedy situations other nets I've had have bent over like a rod in those situations making it hard work. My dymag felt totally different . Is it the reverse taper or Just how it's made I've got no idea but whatever it is does the job very well

my preference is the dymag and what I wouldn't want to happen is to buy a cb net and then dymag come available so I'm really undecided.

Sounds like you really want the Dymag. Wait and try to contact him direct when you get the chance.

I was lucky I got a mk2 Dymag but it was a knife edge choice am positive the Chris Brown net is as good weight and handling wise AND
You can't go chucking a Dymag carbon net around the Chris Brown will definitely be more robust just buy one lol

I used to have an ultra cult landing net handle back in the 90s and that had a reverse taper in it
I trod on it and broke it lol
Still have the north western landing net though

Also have an ultra cult landing net handle with the spiral wrap and bloody solid speader block in the attic.
Not sure what happened to the arms?
Can I get new ones from that will fit?
If so which ones and from where please?
Cheers

Is the Chris Brown net poles reverse taper? How do the fibreglass composite ones measure up for weight and rigidity?

Not reverse taper. Just a nice, sensible, large diameter pole meaning thin wall, very stiff, very light. Spot on.
My glass net is just as stiff, similar diameter. Fractionally heavier maybe, bit rougher round the edges but tough as old boots. I use the carbon in 6+3 length for normal fishing and the glass in two 3ft pieces for boat fishing.
Give Chris a call, really helpful and the nets are incredible value compared to everything else on the market.

A few posts on another thread stating the the new Korda Spring Bow is as good as the Dymag mk3. Be interesting to see if this becomes the new top dog in the net world.

The CB nets look like real work horses, I like them. The reverse taper handles have their own sensible purpose l, I believe the intention is to be able to plunge the handle securely into the margins for a few minutes for fish retention.

Maybe not, but top end money doesnt mean its guaranteed to be top end does it. Time will tell. I wont be buying one. £100 is more than reasonable for a decent net. Anything over that it needs to be pretty amazing to justify the cost

Its easily as well made as my dymag nets, block is even better imo. So easy to get arms in and out and is a work of art and even nicer than the dymag. I love the curve to the arms when there in and looks so much nicer than straight arms. I cant believe how light and stiff the handle is, its even stiffer than my cb handle and thats stiff. It feels just as light as my dymags but havent got one weigh it against anymore. I just weighed my cb carbon handle and the korda one and the korda is 279 grams and my cb handle is 420 grams so its loads lighter. One thing i really dont like is how stupidly deep the mesh is which kind of makes how light the pole is a bit irrelevant but they are bringing out a shallow mesh in a couple of months so not a problem and will fix that issue. The overall finish of the entire net is superb and better than any other net ive owned including my dymags. Even the stainless spike on the even end of the handle is exactly the same diameter as the pole and perfectly flush. Just little things like that makes you see they have really took there time to get it perfect. The bag it comes in is top notch as well. Im tempted to buy another one as a second net 😀

Just back from the tackle shop and had a look at the Korda net. Nice looking, light. The mesh is unbelievably deep - almost 5 feet? Must be for retaining fish in a decent depth of water.

You nearly had me sold on getting one, until I saw the price. Also the mesh is too deep for my liking. I'll stick with my CB for now. Unless I get a windfall after they bring out a version with a shallower mesh.

Already asked for version with shallow mesh but you can only buy the shallow mesh separately unfortunately. No idea why they made the mesh that deep, its way to deep, not sure what they were thinking there. No one is going to retain a fish by jamming there £250 net handle into the lake bed.

At least its only £27 for the shallow mesh and i had a 10% discount code when i bought the net so not to bad. Will just sell the one it came with as will never use it. Bit daft making a net so light then putting a 5 ft deep mesh on that will weigh a ton when its wet and be a pain to move through the water.
