One not my rods has a loose spigot, I have used candle wax before, though I'd like to use something that doesn't make things worse as the wax attracts dust and crud.

Looked for carbon spigot build up spray like Preston's does, unfortunately I can't find anywhere that sells the stuff. The only option I've got other than waiting eons for Vic Gibinson to sort it out is super glue.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Are you able to trim the top section down a tiny amount before the whipping ?

I managed to get some carbon spray from Bobco tackle last year...everywhere else seem to have sold out....at the time they wouldn't post out, so i had to collect from there shop....where about in England are you based....if local i could give you a can as I have 4 cans in my garage......

Used candle wax on my old tench rods last spring, works a treat no drama.

I think you may struggle...after doing a bit of a google, all the manufacturers whom made carbon spray seem to have stopped.

As they were good sellers i dont know why they stopped making the spray, but there must be a good reason for all of them to discontinue the same / similar product...

When i was struggling i did look into thin shrink tube, but manages to get the spray from Bobco....as it was like rocking horse manure i purchase a few cans just in case.....wouldn't get spigot rods again and would always now purchase overfit

coat in super glue.
let dry
slowly sand back the glue with wet & dry paper

repeat until sorted.

the super glue way is the way professional rod builders redo a spiggot, and my mate who rebuilds rods (Chris Palmer Rebuilds) uses this method with success.

That's what I've just done Saint. Just applied and sanded down superglue which looks like it's solved my problem.

Super glue is,nt waterproof , so you will probably have to keep redoing it every so often .

back in the day we just trimmed the top section but I thought these days rods were produced with a spigot wear gap ?

Yep, it'll crack and fragment over time, on the plus side it'll become brittle too so easily removable.

Ha! I mentioned using super glue on a similar thread some time ago only to get ripped to shreds by some waspy bloke who doesn't appear here any more!

As I said then, I've done it with Super Glue for years (Since my North Western SS5's!) and it works just fine.....

It will get wet water finds its way in , it will do the job but will need redoing periodically , one of the many reasons i use harrison blanks , no dodgy spigots.

Considering they came from and sold to me by Johnson Ross (one of the owners, not some guy who works there) and confirmed by Terry Edmonds who looked at them on a casting lesson and said they were because of the reinforcing around the joints, I think I'll run with that. If they've changed from spigot to overfit, I don't know, either way, they're Treb Lites. Mkay?

You know that the image of the rod as you build it on that website is the same for every blank? They haven't detailed every joint for every manufacturer. If you own the rods take a look at those and compare to the one in your link.

i used super glue on mine as already suggested (torrix rods)
had no issues

That shouldn't be necessary with the Harrison overfit joints, I think some rod builders go a bit too tight with the whippings below the joint. It looks great when new but doesn't leave a lot for wear. I'm not sur if the whipping serves a purpose or is just cosmetic to minimise the difference at the joint
I've got a few Harrison rods, 7 different blanks, not a spigot joint among them

If you have a loose fitting spigot prestons joint save is better than superglue , its what i use on worn pole fittings , as said superglue will work but isnt waterproof.bobco tackle have it , never used it on a harrison blank though .

Torrix dont have spigots either.

Would a very thin coat of epoxy rubbed back to a nice tight fit not be better than superglue?

You could probably thin it for that application, would make it easier to get a thin coat

Don't know if it's any use but there is a trick where you mix superglue with bicarb of soda to get a rock hard lasting finish. I've done it to repair hard plastic guitar nuts (the thing at the top of the neck all the strings go through), it sets rock hard and then can be filed sanded as required

This may sound stupid but have accidentally mixed the rod tops up? You could try it on the other two (assuming you have three) bottom pieces?

I was told with my free spirits never to mix them up as they're made together to fit?

Not trying to be a pr*ck but are you sure you're not mistaking an overfit joint for a spigot? Harrisons have always been overfit.

Either that or perhaps they're not the rods you were told they were?

They'd have to be overfit seeing as what they are. I think I've confused things as I'm used to seeing a normal overfit that doesn't have whippings close to the fitting like mine do. They've got 1k halfway up the tip section with reinforcing around the bottom of the tip joint, with 1k all throughout the butt section.

They ain't moody Trebs as they're the same as the 13ft jobs I was arsing around with in Angling Direct in the summer. Not that it's a big thing at all, they're just rods.

Not great pics , if they are overfits they are very worn , if they are spigots they are not treb lites . I cant put pics up but if anyone can i can mail them and you can do a comparison.I re wrote this post as i cant see the weave properly on yours .
