Should be setting my bivvy there today, but corona.... that fish really is immaculate, hope it stays healthy for a long time... it is interesting that it came out so many times on maize, wouldn't say it is getting that big just eating maize... must be really picky eater around boilies.

Great fish and well done to the chap, if you are going to have one fish on a weeks trip must be a great feeling having a fish that size.
I guess the lake will be getting fully booked up already for the next few years.

I was really struck not just at the size but the condition and look of the fish. A very stunning creature.
I thought the guys honesty was so refreshing comes across as genuine modest person and I could not be more happy for him

Just incredible what a beautiful massive carp Fairplay to him he only wanted a 40 lol... Always the way when you have a pb it's all just a blur in the moment. Sometimes it takes a while to sink in.. Well done that man and his mate had a 70+..

Fishing in Holland, we have more common carp than mirrors.
So for me mirrors are more special.
But with carp bigger than let say 60lbs or 30 kg, the massive weight suits commons better.
Sometimes those giant mirrors look like having obese, the giant commons look still like proper fish.
And a 96lbs common is true magic.
Never mind of catching a 30kg+ mirror though

I always fish alone, but, if I was told I had to fish with him, yeah, absolutely no problem, what a smashing guy
Thinking about it, isn't that fish a bit much?
Catching that would be like going on a boys holiday to Ibiza, going out on the Saturday night and waking up next to Kylie. That's brilliant 😂 all tho I do agree somewhat but I have a pb for each country I don't have a over all pb, best way to do it I found. Else I would never beat my french pb in the uk and I do actually just enjoy catching fish I will always get that feeling just by catching a special fish don't matter if it's a 20lb scaley mirror or a 70lb mirror abroad.
I have a friend tho In work who used to go carp fishing almost every weekend he absolutely loved I never thought he would give it up but he went to France twice have a 74lb mirror and then said he never enjoyed his uk fishing again so he sold everything and hasn't been since, he said catching that big mirror ruined his whole fishing everywhere so couldn't go again

ive had fish to 84lb and 2 x 70's in France, they didn't ruin my UK angling, the whole false carp angling scene in the UK did that.

UK angling is what you make of it. If you spend your whole life fishing busy circuit waters then yes, I can see why the appeal can wither. However, if you join a close knit syndicate (a proper one, not a glorified club water) whereby catching anything is a reward, then certainly your UK angling can stay the same if not improve, with a change in outlook.

Agree to a point mate, ive never fished circuit waters, nor will i, i was fishing quite heavily a syndicate water that i loved dearly, then unfortunately as the years passed, some members were let in that caused more hassle than i care to mention and were there for all the wrong reasons and ruined it for me. Since then, ive never found a water where i felt fitted my angling.
Today, i just run my own water with some wonderful people who "get it" I hardly ever wet a line in there and get more pleasure out of looking after it, watches others catch.

I quite liked that video, a very unassuming guy and caught the fish of a lifetime. Certainly seems to be the sort of bloke I wouldn't mind fishing next to.
Isn't it amazing the difference that one pick up made? He would otherwise have gone home fishless and his mate having caught a 70+.

and people that had never known the joys of catching Thames bleak or beautiful coloured Gudgeon or trotted a flowing river catching the lightning biting Dace and plump Roach or Rudd or Chub Barbel or Bream they just wanted a big Carp and so instant carp men appeared
and I ****ed off Sea Fishing for a few years as I was so pissed off with the over night circus

ive had some of the best days fishing with a stick float and a pint of reds.
im only 26 but i strongly believe that 80% of the new so called "carpers" now days couldn't shot a float and plumb the depth!

have to agree with that I will be the first one to admit I was in a bad way regarding fishing due to certain circumstances/chasing big ones etc fell out with "normal" fishing, but luckily now I am again just as happy catching perch in the afternoon as catching 60 pounder in the night... pure fun of fishing again, making plans to fish for bream on my local canal here in belgium in spring and learning my girls to pole fish for silver fish, planning weekend family trips to French rivers... fishing truly is great sport/activity if you look at it without pressure...

apart from the lads I've seen on the TV - Hamidi etc. plus Martin Bowler, Matt Hayes and the like - I wouldn't know a 'famous' carper if I hit him accidently with feeder full of maggots...
always have a rod with me when i'm carp fishing to pleasure fish for silvers, perch, whatever else. you'd be surprised how often a passing carp ignores the carp rod and takes the little wigglers instead...
as for the video and the bloke in it - it's a cracking fish and well done to him. much better than a lot of the videos my youtube feed recommends..

I am fortunate Joss, I fish two Syndicate lakes with lovely fish, both have publicity bans and no named glory hunters.
but it is a shame its come to that.
Like you once said before the bitchiness in carp angling is horrendous when compared to the motorcycle racing scene.

I'm sure there's decent places about, sadly, a few years ago i simply just lost the love for it and gave up trying.
I really enjoy my yearly trips to mar peche and labyrinth with great people who enjoy the week with me on my whole lake bookings. No one is bothered what anyone else catches and its a just like when one catches, we all share it like we've all caught it. That for me is special.
and yes mate, in all the years ive spent at race tracks and in the paddocks with up to 100 riders, i've NEVER seen any bitching at all, home and abroad. Everyone just gets on and helps each other out should there be any issues from a broken brake lever to an accident.
