Mine runs out in April, however I can see this three week isolation being extended a further three weeks, so little point in renewing til Mays payday.
Why do most clubs seek renewal at the end of March?
Stupidly bought a car in March too. Expensive month!

New annual fishing rod licence gives 12 months
The rod licence renewal date will become a thing of the past as annual licences can now run from the date you choose when buying it. That's instead of being fixed at April 1 to March 31 as has been the case. You will get a full 12 months' fishing now.

12 months from when u bought it bud, tbh mine runs out on the 1st of may we won't be out fishing by then not a chance so I'll be renewing it once we are aloud out again but won't be for a few months yet

If you can't go fishing then it is common sense not to renew yet, and the system allows you to do it. By and large the EA spend our money sensibly even if we don't all agree on all points. Why do you resent paying for a rod license which costs about the same as 5kg of good bait. Somebody needs to keep an eye on our aquatic environment. Perfect it ain't, necessary it most certainly is.

I still maintain lake owners should have a responsibility to check licences and issue minimum 8 day licences on the spot.

Mine was set to run out on March 31st so (as usual) I renewed it the start of March. (I used to do it by Direct Debit).
So I have a current license and will lose a few months - it wont break the bank.
The clubs I am a member of were all renewed before the lock down. The clubs still need the funds though.
My syndicate will run this year 12 months from when we start up again apparently.
Its a pain - we are all put out but we are alive.

Paid all three syndicates and one club before the lockdown £800 for the year also renewed my license not worth worrying about, it is what it is.
im not worried about it, my main syndie would of shut on may 1st anyway till 15th June, the other ticket was an open all year water but at £150 a year there is no complaint from me.seems to be a few members though getting the ump and constantly phoning the secretary asking if they can fish..

I'm not renewing my EA until I can actually go.
River Syndicate I'm in got paid 1st Jan, but that's no issue as the lock down almost lined up with the closed season anyway, just hope we can get fishing again around the 16th June
On our own waters I've just rolled the renewal forward until we can start actually fishing again.
The club water I'm a member of has done just the same .
It all just means next year renewal dates will be later in the year, and same for years to come.

Renewed rod licence two weeks before we went into lockdown, yes could have said wait until we can use it again but its always been a march thing for me to sort my new rod licence out and how much other stuff do we buy that is wasting £15
renewed mine as usual end of March - The EA are still doing the work that our licences contribute to so I'm happy enough to pay it.
I'm also in support of venues making sure anglers have valid licences. makes good sense to me - let's face it, if you aren't prepared to buy a rod licence, then perhaps you aren't as responsible an angler as those who do.

Also renewed as normal. Not bothered about 'loosing' a few quid a month. As said, EA still working.
I agree that waters that benefit from license payers money should check anglers have a valid license, and I know of many that already do that.

Very poor last four posts.
And £2.50 for a month licence? What have you been smoking? Would be nice though!
MOTs have been put back by the government.
The Sky Sports empire have offered to suspend Sports subscribers for the time being.
Probably more examples.
We don't know when we will be able to go fishing again.
If you pay for 12 months, and you lose 2 or 3, I think it's reasonable you should have some cut back.
It's ok if you'e got the money.
Some people have \ will struggle, and I think they are entitled to the time they have lost on their licence.
*If* we can't get back fishing by July\August, then the EA will obviously have to come up with something or there will be a big backlash, and rightly so.
No doubt they are planning for such a scenario.

My experience over many years is that buying a rod licence is the quickest, most hassle free and speedy process that you can experience dealing with officialdom. Get on the net. Print your receipt and you can fish, 5 mins max. 24/7/365 days a year. The licence runs from the time and date asked for on purchase for the period requested. If the money bothers you then don't buy one until you can fish again, then buy one and go fishing. Simples. Not up to the Environment agency to burp you and change your nappy. I renewed mine on last day of Feb as every year. Money is still needed for our fisheries. Come on guys, this is no big deal.

Off topic (a bit) ... back in the day when I used to do a lot of touring with a mate of mine we used to play the very sad and annoying game of 'I went to school with him / her..'
Basically any combination of words that could potentially be a name were followed by the phrase 'I went to school..etc.'
For example - I'll meet you at Victoria Station ..... 'I went to school with her'
so - Rod Licence..... ( I think you can work it out)
try it on your friends and see how utterly fun / annoying it can be
I think lockdown is getting to me....

What the hell are you talking about? Yes, a rod licence is easy to buy online. Doh.
Most of my fishing takes place May-August.
If I pay for a licence and can't fish during that time it's not unreasonable for me to get a refund or be able to fish those four months at a later date (after the licence has expired) .
I have absolute respect for the EA and their work. That is not the point.
The EA are funded by the government btw, who made this decision.

So I can't share my opinion?
Been a member of this forum for many years, over this time I would come to the conclusion that it's been fair and well run, and somewhere that people can share their own opinions on topics. Democracy is good!
I don't know where we will be in 4 months time, but a scenario where some people could lose 3-4 months of their licence could be possible, and my argument is that those people should be reimbursed in some way . e.g. licence extended.
I don't think that's unreasonable, and that's my opinion that I want to share.
Are you saying I can't do that on this forum? Are you a mod \ own the forum?
If you are and I can't share that opinion and it's not the right forum for me, then fair enough, I will bow down.
Maybe you're right .. f*k those who are scraping the barrow (which you obviously know nothing about) pay their hard earned for a licence, but then told they can't fish.

Are you going to ask for some road tax back as well as you're not driving as much? Maybe offset that with an extra contribution to council tax as we are all making more rubbish at home...
You licence fee doesn't just pay for you to fish. It covers a lot of ongoing work that is still happening so that we can all still fish in the long run.
That's why I don't mind paying it.

You are entitled to your opinion and you have expressed it strongly several times in this thread, and I don't think anybody is trying to stop you. Democracy is good but is based on managing disagreement and conflict. In the end we have to accept the will of the majority. I think it may be time to agree to disagree as you are clearly in a minority.

As already pointed out by many others it's pennies in the grand scheme of things, just be thankful you aren't one of the statistics at 4pm each day.

Just take into account if a high percentage have the same opinion like you and leave it to the last minute to buy their licences the likelihood is the website won't be able to cope with the volume of traffic when we can go back fishing.
And you maybe stuck not being able to get your licence anyway. Your choice but just food for thought.

What the heck are you virtue signalling about you clown?
Here's a couple of words you snowflakes seem to run away from: "personal responsibility", I don't litter, I pick it up when left by others.
You have absolutely no idea what I do or not do for the environment so making your half baked assumptions is based on ignorance and supposition. Are you in 'Fishery watch'? Who are pro-active and work without funding, much like the original Anglers Cooperative Association under the tutelage of Alan Edwards, who were around long before you picked up a bent pin and a bamboo cane. I was a long term ACA member before it became a government outlet, trumpeted as having a voice in parliament which the AT does. Alan Edwards took more polluters to court, and won, than the EA ever did and he did this without any rod licence money.
Sometimes you post a decent amount of sense, sometimes you just like the sound of your own voice.
What voluntary work do you do for the environment, club or syndicate work parties don't count.
When the EA actually put back the effort commensurate with the funding they get from coarse anglers then I'll be more positive in my support.
Desk jockey muppets and mutual back slappers like the AT are just as bad.

All this over having to pay £30 / £45 and only getting maybe 10 months of fishing shocking really. it's not expensive for a years fishing when you could use that many boilies on a 48 or 72 hour session

£30 for my 2 rod license divided by 12 equals £2.50. Therefore, I am only paying £2.50 a month for a license.

Some people buy 2 license not just one. 4 rods you need 2

If you wish to use 4 rods it's your choice and you should pay. On many day ticket/ commercial waters two is plenty for fish safety. I have had sessions in spring and summer when keeping one rod in the water is hard enough.I think four rods is greedy given the size of most UK lakes. Where does it stop.

I know you've been carp fishing for 742 years and all that but it still don't make you qualified to judge someone you don't know either. So, in response to your armchair diagnosis, physician heal thyself seems appropriate in your case.
Thank you for feeling the need to contribute no real input whatsoever other than having a dig, I'm neither your son nor angry, just so you know dear.

Large lakes over 80 acre no other anglers within 100yards. Sometimes need 4 rods. If I was fishing a day or club water I would only use 2. But I tend to avoid them and also holiday lakes
ignore me I'm just grumpy got 3 days off and housebound

I purchased a rod license through the legit gov.uk website a couple of days ago. Got all the confirmations and a license number reference.
Today I received an email stating due to a technical issue that the fee would be refunded to my account and I would have to reapply. This email looks a little dodgy so no way am I clicking on the link to get another license. Ill just wait to see if the money is refunded.
Anyone else had this?

I've had a very similar one from a bogus TV licensing that I just deleted / reported as phishing
give the EA a call to check - they'll have your address details to confirm

If the e-mail looks dodgy, just hover the mouse over the link and the true link should be shown on the bottom left of the screen. I had a convincing looking e-mail from Virgin Media telling me my connection would be cut off because they couldn't collect my fee but the link was going to a talktalk address! As always, if in doubt, don't.

Reports from Chertsey of anglers on the Thames, under the bridge.
