Hi all. As per title
Looking for a copy of Terry Dempseys book. How much should I expect to pay for a good condition copy? Realise there was only 1 print run but don't know how many copies were printed hence it probably commands a premium.

Just looked at the ad. Only 1 pic of front cover. No description of book itself apart from '1st cass' I person's idea of 1st class isn't always everybody's! Ideally it needs more pics ..back cover, spine ,inside leaf etc. Any discolouration to top of book?? It's all a tad vague tbh

Just had a look at what's out there £63 seems cheap. Most of the second hand book sellers are asking £150 plus. Ask the seller for more pics. Will give you a better idea of condition.

I thought £63 seemed cheap.. too cheap perhaps? Given that the seller hasn't given a description of the book that most true booksellers would provide ( only quoted the sleeve/back page) suggests they either don't know what's expected or it might not be as tidy as expected.

It's listed in first class condition. By a seller with 100% positive feedback over nearly 1k sales. The dust cover is absolutely mint. Looks brand new.
Not certain what more that you could ask for personally 😂

I'm lucky to have a copy by the sound of it! It's a great book and actually one of my favourites.
I guess the decision you need to make is whether you just want a copy to read or a collectible version. I have hundreds of angling books, most carp related, and they have all been read and reread (some like the Urban Myth on multiple occasions). This means that they're a bit tatty but still readable! I have said it on this forum before, I don't understand why some of these out of print books cant be released as a kindle version to increase accessibility? Maybe an opportunity for Terry and others to earn a few more pennies and get their work out to a new audience...

I sold all my Angling books last year on Ebay as they were making mega money and taking room up in the office, im sure Urban Myth didn't do that well though.

Hi Tc actually I was after info rather than the book as I had already sealed a deal on a copy for just over a tenner more. This too is in VVGC ..it arrived today and upon inspection it was all the seller had said it was. No yellowing of page tops, no rippling or denting of dust jacket, spine still pretty stiff and secure. Even a signed dedication to the seller. I'm more than happy with it.. Will prob get read once then found a home on the Angling books bookcase.
Having a look through that list is an eye opener..some v good titles there. Am already on Little Egret mailing list and have had a couple of limited editions off there.

I have a few of those books the seller has up for sale. Can't believe the price of them. Some of them seem way of the Mark. There's a copy of Tels " Still Searching " for £70 odd quid. As far as I'm aware that's still available as new?? I thought the bottom had fallen out the book market. Obviously still a few people out there willing to pay top dollar for some of them.

Jeez I've got a few quids worth of books stashed away, although not in the immaculate condition of that seller.
I knew Waddle was worth a fair bit, but some of the others surprised me, especially the Eddie Price book.

2nd edition is available new. The one below is a signed 1st edition so not far off the mark.
Prices are actually down on books at the moment. Went through the roof during covid, like everything else, but the ones on the bay up for covid prices tend to sit there doing nothing now.
I moved house a month ago and had to box up all my books. Seven big boxes full. Couldn't believe it. They've filled a massive bookcase at the new gaff. Dread to think what they're worth.... loads of rare ones and 1st editions. I still pick most of them up from time to time to have a little browse.

Not long re-read urban myth. It is a good book. One I missed out on was nige sharps. I read a mates copy in a weekend years ago but never got myself a copy.
I've got loads stashed under the bed in boxes. New house will have a new bookcase for them though. It'll be a sad day when print is gone forever, can't beat a proper book imo!

Do you actually enjoy owning the books though, knowing they need to be within reason, in vgc to get the top prices 
No dust/light, scratches/tears/dings/marks etc etc, got to read them on a felt pad, wearing gloves, read & repackage, can't smoke or own pets...
and the worse thing, you'll probably not even get a copy because 'collectors' will buy them by the dozen to drip feed the market (I don't blame them though).
My copy of Tels 1st book is in vgc and it actually went on the bank with me

Only book I've bought recently was Bob Roberts Mighty Trent.

Got many a good copy of all the major titles...Thing is i read most of 'em sitting on the ****ter....Not sure quiet how much that devalues them tbh .... :(

Same. That's where most of the reading gets done! I don't buy books for resale purposes though. Buy them to read and enjoy wherever that may be. I think actually reading print is so much better than on a screen. Something that already seems fairly alien in this day and age!

I've never bought anything, apart from property, thinking about it's future value and I very much doubt I'll be selling any of my books. It'll be my son that will be rubbing his hands lol.

I went through my collection last year when I was bored and searched latest sold prices on eBay, came to nearly 3 grand, most have only been rad once.
The price of these books, I have a small fortune in a old suitcase sitting here. And thats with out the set I lost many moons ago to a crazed ex.

Absolutely right Mark. My son has asked me to list things with an approximate value at some point. I've got a few cased fish and stuffed birds and animals dotted around the cottage. Obviously not to most people's taste, but worth a few quid to the right person.

When terry released the 3rd book and the big hoo haa about crap packaging
I had one of the damaged ones that they replaced so actually have 2 copies of that lol

Reading ALL pages
