Hi
I'm thinking about joining RK Leisure but I live in Cornwall.
It's a 4 hour trip there and the same back.
Does anyone travel this far or further?
Is it a killer?

There are some lovely.places in Kernow ,why on earth would you want to travel up country ,to the rat race and fish busy waters, each to their and all that ,but I'd never do it on a regular basis

( I get asked if I'd like to join such n such lake up the line ,many times I've said thanks,but no thanks )

You're right but I just fancy experiencing wraysbury, church lake etc, iconic waters.
Adds to the experience don't it, I'm a member of 2 syndicates and club waters in Cornwall and they are always busy as well .
Might try it for a season and see how I get on.
I'm 50 next year so if I don't try them soon I never will

John, we met a long time ago now, but why not drive an hour to Plymouth, catch the ferry and drive 3 hours into France / Belgium? You will find a whole lot of waters that are quiet, have some fantastic fishing and have a proper adventure? Just a thought.. slightly more expensive i guess but not sure what the price is of an RMC ticket these days but i bet you could get a fair few trips to France for that amount of money. I know that that's what I would be doing anyway...

Whenever we go to France we see the journey there as part of the holiday, rather than a means to a end, just go with the flow and enjoy it

That's how I view angling in its entirety, always the journey ,always an adventure wherever you go ...regardless of size of fish or venue ..

Out of curiosity i checked the prices on the RK Leisure site for tickets... forgot it wasn't RMC anymore which shows my age and how out of touch i am... but for that money i reckon I could do 6/7 weeks in France each year. 42- 49 days fishing in the wild compared with grinding it out on a weekly basis on busy lakes back here in the UK? Definitely each to their own and all that and I'd take my hat off to you if you fished those lakes regularly whilst travelling from Cornwall but reckon there must be better options. I know quite a few of the lads from down here used to travel to Oxland, Stoneys etc to fish and did well so definitely not impossible, just maybe, a bit of a grueller?

Also factor in that you can easily spend an extra hour or two sat still if the M25 goes tits up. You are driving past a lot of very good fishing. I've fished the waters and although they have some lovely fish and history I don't think that distance is realistic. I found it a ball ache round the 25 from East London on a bad day, 70 miles vs 200+.

They used to do open days where you could have a walk around and give the journey a trial run to get a feel for it.

Can't say I've done 4 hrs each way but I've certainly fished places that are a proper trek. It's all about how much you want it, and you clearly want it to be considering it in the first place. My only advice would be to choose your travel times carefully.... you'll absolutely smash it in the wee hours.

Also - you'll defo be speeding - so don't get caught!

The drive back will be a doddle.... 4 hours either working out what you did wrong, or buzzing your nuts off.

I remember you , I gathered some great info from your fishing skills 👌 I hear what your saying, I suppose that could be an option, I usually do Thursday to Sunday so not sure I'd have enough time, I run a business so can't do any longer.

Only recently got done twice for speeding, 😞
Sat through the zoom speeding course for the first offence, the next day had another drop
On the mat 🤣

Hope your not thinking about doing over nighters..

Travelling that kind of distance your going to be wanting to do a few days at least. You can almost treat it as a mini break. I travel about an hour at most for most of my fishing. That's enough for me. Doing days and over nighters are mangerable. Good luck if you do decide to go ahead with it.

The iconic venues you mention aren't what they were. Personally I drive from the south coast up to Scotland to fish occasionally but I'm in a motorhome and retired so have all the time to do as I please.

I know that, and I know it will be busy , there isn't many places left that hasn't succumb to the hordes, but wraysbury just has a pull to it.

For all of my regular fishing I've had a 35 minute from home rule.
My fishing has been very different from yours though, usually one night, more recently it has been stretched out to 24 hours. I have always tried to get to the lake as often as possible, to bait up and watch as often as possible.
When I was offered a Savay season ticket that all went out of the window. Travelling further and for longer than ever before and having to sleep in my truck overnight. It was absolutely knackering!
But this was Savay, a dream come true. Being older and with more time now I'd join again in a heartbeat.
My advice, do it, join them and enjoy experience. If you find you don't enjoy it, at least you'll you'll have tried, with no regrets.

That was my thought process, if I love it then bonus , if not at least I tried it and experienced it.
There's a 2 year waiting list apparently
