I messaged Steve Harrison regarding the possibility of Harrison building retractable blanks and he came back to me saying they're currently discussing it. I think it's early days but he told me to give him a couple of months.

I'll post more information when I get it but if they were available can I ask what length and test curve are do you prefer in retractable rods?

10ft in either 3.25lb or preferably 3.5lb tc. My choice for when using a bait boat in France making transportation that much easier than traditional 12ft rods (they comfortably fit in the roof box)

Would be 10ft 3, 3.25 test for me. Don't think there's anything else you need in an all round rod in a retractable. There definitely compact enough.

I'm glad Harrison are looking into it. There's definitely room in the market for high end retractable rods. Everything at the moment is mas produced in the far East.

Would prefer a 8ft 2.5lb myself

That's what I said to Steve Harrison. There is no high quality custom built option in the retractable market. I think they've realised there's enough demand.

Demand when they're up to a hundred quid yes. Treble that for a telescopic rod is a bit silly don't you think?

I get what you mean but I was referring to a demand for a custom built option on a Harrison blank rather than the overall demand for retractable rods. Anyone looking at a Harrison rod is probably aware the price will be top end.

Fox have a quite top end retractable rod out thats around £280. They scope black ops are not cheap either and classed as top end ish.

Seriously though, if we even say the rods we're equalish on price (top end) and as good as each other playing wise I wouldn't even consider anything than Harrison. If they were equalish on price you'd also have to ask yourself how much more the company that uses Chinese labour is taking the micky, espesh given volume.

My Soniks cost £45 each, probably made with child labour and caught me as many as a Harrison rod would 👍

Yep, could probably get the Sonik rod unbranded on Temu for half that price too. I thought the convo was about top end price rods not the anglers ability to catch

Just a quick update.

Steve Harrison has confirmed the 10ft 3 1/4lb and 10ft 3 1/2lb TC rods should be available around mid November.

Lower test curves will follow.

9ft models will be next year.

Did they say how much the blanks will cost and are they going to offer standard builds direct from them?

Sweet silver lining as was supposed to order some new retractable customs last month but the rod builder never sent me an invoice then told me he'd cancelled the invoice he didn't send for some reason. Will get some of these built by John Hennessy next year.
