Good Afternoon,
I ahve been toying with theidea of getting a rod pod due to going through a set of bank sticks 4 to 6 months due to hammering them into hard ground at a gravel pit.
I know the RP1 looksvery effecient when it comes to its setup and pack away time but i am wonder if there is anything else on the market when i could leave the alarms attached to the pod and it would be very quick to setup.
My rod pods appear to come in a nice small wallet/bag but will require putting every single piece together, not what im after....

I have the Chris Brown 'pod' which is called the Phil Andrews Set up.
I leave banksticks on bars with all alarms and indicators, just lie them flat on my unhooking mat on my barrow. Then if needs to be a pod I grab the 2 support sticks out of my holdall, screw onto bank sticks and you're away.

RP1 has to be the quickest . . . failing that and whatever pod you choose why not just keep the whole lot assembled and bung it on the top of your barrow? Lots of keen 'quick overnighter / turn up at 6pm disappear by 6am' types on my lake do exactly this . . .

Have a look at the Defiant MPS Panther. I've the Titanium version, it can't get much simpler than adding a cross bar. The link below should work, I'm in a poor signal area so can't post pics at the mo. Quite a few manufacturers have similar designs now, some very cheap.

Jag RP1 by far the fastest pod to set up. Plus you get the added benefit of easily removing middle bank sticks if fishing a margin etc away from your main rods.
I dont rate it as the best pod on the market but certainly the fastest,compact pod going. I find mine staying home mostly these days using my solar worldwide as just easier in all conditions for versatility. Pain to setup the worldwide level though takes ages to align all the individual legs.

Orginal solar sod pod from the 90s still probably the best. I've got a fox one lightweight that's not bad and a nbrice ss one ******* impossible to get it anything like level. And I use it on grass flat swims.

I've got an old Solar Sly Rod Pod, not many bits and quick to put up.
I've still got my original Cygnet pod from around 92 and I don't think it's possible to beat it on simplicity and quality. I'd imagine you'd struggle to find one for sale though.
Just buy a small square ish bag - one of mine is an old foil Linded wychwood bait bag, another is a ground sheet bag, then any quad type pod leave front and rear sticks, bars and bobbins attached, then splay base and away you go.
I bought an RP1 after comments on here and find it brilliant, would certainly not look for wider, longer as this suits my fishing to a tee.

Hi. I can leave my P1 worldwide pretty much together.. its just a case of swinging the 4 legs into place and as buzzers/ rear rest are swung upside down/90 deg when not in use, it doesn't take up much space and takes seconds from 'not in use ' to ' in use'

Have to disagree with that, the assembly for use with a Solar P1 is a pain in the arse. Rock solid when together but to many twists and turns, adjusting anything on the buzz bars or legs is fiddly to get it right in my experience. Just my opinion as I know loads people love them.

I agree with you 100%. I own both the worldwide and the RP1. Prefer the versatility for different ground conditions and water conditions (weedy etc) of the worldwide but boy to set it up is a pain in the arse. Every leg is individual, the main frame twists takes forever. Great pod but defo not a quick setup

Im still using my KJB 3 rod pod that a bought back in the late 80's, so simple to use 2 ends go in my bedchair and the main bar goes in the rod bag

IMO.. its not a PITA to move four legs & a couple of buzz bars,esp when compared to trying to get sticks into rock hard ground etc.....

Each to their own pal I wasn't commenting about your experience with the pod I was commenting about my personal experience.
I also added that I rate the pod highly enough to use it over my RP1. In my opinion regardless if you keep the legs screwed in its not nearly as easy to setup as the rp1. Each leg slightly out by one rotation makes the pod squint and depending if you want to fish tips up or down you have to move the central bar position for reels to sit correctly away from leg support.

I modded my sod pods, you can knock the boss ends off the centre bar. I left the ends set up , 1 with small tri post, meant you only had to add the centre bar for set up.
My worldwide was much the same, leave the ends set up in the mat attach bar etc.
I prefer my Defiant panther as you can use the stick separately, with the sod or ww I always carried extra.

Pelzer Phaser Rod Pod, just got to open up a few screws and fold everything out.
You can even leave the bite alarms on. Fish it low to the ground, highpod, hip height, everything is possible. I shorten the buzzer bars on mine, came as 5 rod Version.
Got a second one used as a backup. Its the best pod for me and i got hrought a few over the years. Always got back to this one.
Ist heavy enough, so you dont move it when taking up the rod, no wiggle at all and its sturdy as hell.

This makes sense to me more now than last time you shared it, and I've got a spare boss too so might give it a try.
So it just knocks off, no rivets or such like to get through and goes back on tightly too?

Jag rp1 is the quickest i've ever used and i've had a lot of pods over the years. This one is perfect for me.

The centre bar on the 2 pod I converted were just a tight press on, no rivets or anything else.
On 1of the pods it would just push back on fairly easily and would have been fine just like that due to the length of the peg on the boss meaning it wouldn't come apart easily, but me being me I drilled a 2mm hole through the centre bar/peg and used a 2mm drill bit as a peg, inserting on set up and removing for pack down.
The second pod wasn't as friendly, the centre bar was too tight making it difficult to assemble/take apart, I got a friend to turn the peg down slightly on his lathe, that sorted that!
The pegs themselves are a press fit into the boss iirc and can be knocked out.

Can't you just get auger sticks instead and wind them in with Tommy bars? Be a lot quieter as well.

I'm going to give it a go, worst case I hash up a centre boss which only cost 18 quid anyway 👍.
I have thought about glueing the boss to keep it a fixed length and more importantly preventing it twisting, maybe some kind of pin could do that too 🤔

No worries, I hope it goes as easily as my 1st.
Just hold the centre bar vertically and do small taps with the hammer on the boss, rotating the boss after each strike, if it's not moving you'll know to add more power into the strike, just be patient. It's worth removing the hinged feet threads before you start too, you'll need a allen key for that.
If you don't they'll jump back up into the 'legs closed' position and get in the way of the hammer
