Why is it so popular amongst carpers now and who started it all off. I'm not having a pop I'm just curious as to where it all started.

I was wearing an olive drab beanie hat in 1973. Does that make me a hipster or trendsetter? I don't think so. The wheel of life goes around and around. Not much new just not remembered. That's half the problem with society in general today.

Not then, but I have sported a beard in the past, and I do have a small tattoo...like I said. Nothing new just not remembered.

Still wearing my beanie hat today and it was 20 odd degrees, hipness comes at a cost.
Pretty sure beards have just been around since evolution left the hair there when we (mostly all) transitioned from primitive apes to the koi sleeve tattooed vass disciples of today

I think some of those in the beard and beanie hat brigade are adjusting for going bald.
The hat hides the hair loss and the beard compensates for what's missing under the hat. Next time you walk past one whip the hat off and check.

Every single person I've ever met who wears a hat religiously is insecure about going bald. You can spot them a mile off because when they finally take off their hat, they usually immediately run their hands through their hair as if fashioning a comb over.

We used to wear them pigeon shooting back in the 70s as part of our camouflage to hide our faces from above.
Still got the same one now and wear it fishing when it's sunny. Apart from shading eyes they protect the top of your ears from the sun, (prime spot for skin cancer).

Oh I like tats Joss. The problems start when you have half a dozen blokes who have the same tattoo, sort of goes against the whole thing of marking your skin to be individual.
And bald people wear hats.... Of course they do, there's little to no hair to protect the sensitive skin from the cold or uv, still it's an excuse to mock somebody's physical appearance so dive in

Yes, sorry boonie in the summer to keep the sun off and pigeon shooting, beanie in the winter to keep my ears warm, worn both from the 60 / 70s. My mate calls them both beanies so I guess it's rubbed off.

I had both my sleeves and shoulders done free hand...so they are a bit different.
I said to the wife "what you think, brill tatts hey!"
She responded
"Yes, they are very good, but not on you, you look like a chav now"

I designed all apart from one of my tattoos myself.
Not worn a beanie for years. I used to wear a 'trawler' beanie in winter, although I have now gone to a traditional flat cap instead.
As for the beard, it was a goatee, until my niece refused to let me have my Christmas present until I promised to shave it off 2 years ago. When not working I do go clean shaved, then let it grow for a week or so, itch time. When working its clean shaved every day.
