Well worth a watch on youtube. Got to be one of the biggest captures of big fish from a French public water captured on video ever. Just.Wow.... I now John's vids have been mentioned on here in the past. You'll find this one on CCMoores channel.

To be fair to JT, I'm still only up to his 2018 films and the bait plugs are only relevant to him explaining the reasons as to why he is baiting the way he is. If you're using two types of baits to avoid crays/chat etc then I think it makes sense to mention why you're not using fishmeals.
It's not as if he's rubbing a live system wafter around his nipple whilst looking seductive for the 'gram

I'm going to answer this simply.
It's Johns film - John posts here. John didn't name the venue - as it's his film, etiquette would suggest that would be the correct thing to do, not name it on a public forum such as this.
Phil, these are your first posts and you seem to have a bee in your bonnet over naming venues - would you be happy to name all the venues that John and others have been too then? John often mentions in his films that he's not going to name venues out of respect for the locals, which seems the right thing to do.
The venue itself is well known, it's on other vids, Korda, a french Fox one, loads of pics on the web. It's pretty safe, not like M or GL, but it can get very busy at times.
Keep it to myself? Doubt it, I haven't been since summer 2014, when a certain fish died, and that was the last one of the original big ones we'd not had.

Tbh this is a forum talking about carp fishing, naming a lake in another country, that 99.9% of carp anglers wont even bother to venture to, didnt really need suppressing. If he wanted to keep it a real secret he wouldn't have put a video up at all....

My point would be if John didn't want the venue to be named then he should not
Post up the videos of where he fishes.
At the end of the day he had a trip to remember which he shared on media so why can't people name the venue for others to potentially fish.
Fox,Nash,Kev Ellis etc etc to my knowledge have never not named a venue

This is a bit short sighted in my view for two reasons.
1) 99.9% of carp anglers aren't on my club water. However, with a little effort, IE sticking your name on a waiting list and several hours of driving, 90% of carp anglers in this country COULD fish it. This is no different to lakes in France. Naming a venue in France because you believe 99.9% of anglers won't fish it could possibly inspire 2% of anglers to research, find videos, find forum posts, pictures, write ups and eventually be inspired to actually visit. A handful of anglers then turns into several dozen. I've seen this happen as a direct result of posts ON THIS FORUM. Heck, I even recognised a couple of them in the latter years.
2) Believe it or not many French, German, Dutch etc etc anglers can read English. Many have access to google translate. Many travel to France to fish. They have far easier car journeys to France than we do. As above, even 2% of that 99.9% number have the ability to change a water forever. I don't speak French, however during lockdown I amassed a list of around 30+ public waters in France, with night fishing, and found youtube videos, forum posts etc. to confirm there is stock worth catching, that it is safe etc. This is because people cannot help but name waters and show off what they caught through selfishness and with an aim to be recognised. These posts and videos are no different to self promotion here, usually with a plug for a garage shed swivel firm, and with Aldi bite alarms in the background of the picture, plus pods angled as if they are about to launch a V2 rocket into the post office of a village in Kent
Sorry if that sounds sarcastic, but we believe we are in our own little bubble at times. Until you give a Dutch kid a hair rig to catch his first carp because he was inspired by English anglers on youtube, you tend to forget that 40 year old blokes in Berkshire scratching their arse on the sofa aren't the only ones with access to youtube and google watching "eggy lad"...

There are levels.
It would be impossible to stick the lid back on when it comes to certain venues, especially those which have an active online presence and do not have a publicity ban. There are also certain venues which are still free of the watchful eyes of social media. Sadly, a few of these fell foul to furloughed, who wanted to find a "freebie" when many other waters were either absolutely rammed or closed due to paranoia.
I know one "freebie" which had angling banned in it's entirety because the handful who kept their nut down had their angling ruined by anglers who just could not help but start posting on forums and social media about what was in there. It's selfish. simple as that. I'm sorry, but as someone who has spent most of their life fishing these kinds of waters, it seems irrelevant to name a water until its YOUR place of solace that gets ruined due to naming them.
There is a reason Pike Anglers (worth their salt) will not name venues full stop.
People seem to forget that many pay lakes made a mint from pillaging French public lakes and rivers, so is it any wonder that both english and european anglers who want to enjoy the stock wish to keep these lakes quiet? They also seem quite content naming French waters they don't fish/will not fish anymore on public forums yet would not dare to post their pics of their "syndicates" just incase the world and his wife sticks their name down on a 7 year long waiting list...

Why is it short sighted? This is a fishing forum isnt it? Why cant lake names be talked about? It's like we are still living in the 80's where everything is secret squirrel. If people dont want the lake to be talked about, then they wouldn't advertise them in the first place. If you do then in my view it's fair game. I genuinely wanted to know the lakes name, not to fish it, but to cross reference the korda video.
If we cant talk about a lake in a completely different country, which involves hours and hours of driving to get there, then what can we talk about?

The way I see it is that if you don't want to name/promote/whatever a venue out of respect for the locals, other anglers or whatever then don't make a video about it and post it on YouTube. People are bound to do some digging and asking questions and that's fine. If people don't want to share that info then that's also fine but you can't moan at the people that do share that info

Korda have a video on YouTube fishing the venue. It's not a secret club water.
That's KORDA on YOUTUBE
I reckon they may have a wider audience across Europe on a slightly bigger platform than a few hundred overweight Englishmen on a rickety old forum.
The moderation on here is highly questionable at the moment.

Not sure deleting a public waters name is the way forward myself either , I found out about it by accident when researching another water north of it , and a friend told me that this lake would be an option if others were busy . I see it from both sides , but the majority , in fact the vast majority on here will never travel that far , certainly with only that lake to target without a few back up venues to go to if it's busy .

Didn't think removing a venue name would cause such a stir to the point that some users have even crawled out of the non-carp section to post in here.

Definitely a strange thing for someone to do that described the location of, and asked for info on, an Essex water that is kept well under the radar.

Plenty of publics on HERE for anyone feeling adventurous, my opinion if its in print on the internet it's hardly a secret "HINT" the lake in question is on this site not too difficult to find although the information is dated, anything info past 10 years and your taking a gamble of what remains as it's probably had a vindage and all the big carp sold at the auction in Paris and bought by private lake owners, although those left or restocked with smaller carp can still make for decent fishing as they don't take long to munter up.

You all know the name of the lake I'm sure by now..
Its name is common knowledge if you are a regular visitor to France. It is also featured on at least three French "Where To Fish"-type websites, on one Dutch site and a further German one and there may be more, I didn't do a deep search.
If you know, you know, and if you don't know then find out by doing your research as John will have done and as most pioneering anglers will also have done.
Incidentally, it is my understanding that pike will not take to being caught too regularly, whereas carp often get caught several times a year and still come back to a hookbait. We had a pike down here in a Cornish ressy that went in at 32lb. The news quickly spread, and it was caught three or four times in fairly quick succession. It was later found dead, possibly as a result of the stress of the multiple captures.

exactly right
when in 2014 a huge fish came out in an enduro the world record 34,9 kg mirror carp, captured during an official fishing enduro competition in France and the public water was all over the place and its easy to see ? its laughable that its a secret ?
bit like Rainbow shall we keep that a secret as well or Cassien etc

In my opinion naming the lake is a complete lake of respect. If people know they know.
I live a few hours away and have fished it a lot. It's obviously not a secret lake but encouraging more foreign interest is only going to lead this venue down one route.
Last year alone saw more damage to anglers cars than any of the previous 3 I've fished it. Naming the venue and potentially encouraging anglers who aren't experienced with fishing venues with hostile locals is negligent in my book as the car damage etc is certainly rising.
Tight lines Dave

Great film i really enjoyed it so much i watched it twice ,,well done JT . But ref nami g the location and having experienced a lake i fish in the uk being plastered all over youube by one of the most famous carp anglers in the county, it went from being very very quiet to a circus almost overnight and does cause a fair bit of resentment. towards the new anglers, who would never have heard or thought of the place and the angler that published the youtube film . So out of respect to the anglers fishing there , you just keep it quet..

He fishes a public water, put the video on a public platform, then posted on a public forum like I said in my earlier post he or anyone for that matter should not post their video(s) ups if they don't want people to know where they are fishing.

Posted up on for all to see , keeping the name quiet seemed what he wanted , but surely people can't moan about anyone trying to track it down, as I did after the Korda video , it's in our makeup as carp anglers 😁. Then as someone names it , surely then people can't be surprised . Both examples were an obvious outcome once it was released , respect or not , it's the way things are .

It strikes me as a complete lack of fishing etiquette how would you like it if we as English where lucky enough to have a free fishing lake that was local to you with great fishing and big fish a plenty then all of a sudden because a foreign angler started naming the place you couldn't get near it because the masses descended on it. Simple fact is you wouldn't know one would so do your homework or go and find your own piece of paradise and respect other peoples freedom of choice not to name places.

I think the point is that they go out of the window when people start making a living out of making fishing videos. Let's all be honest, that video was a promotional video for a bait company. The video will have a far greater affect than a few names on a forum. Anyone with half a brain can figure out the waters.
Just my opinion, but we would all be much better off without these videos. They are 99% either self promotion or commercial promotion. It's all bulls***.

But when the person making the video expressly says why he doesn't name the water it shows a lack of ettiquet to then name it. The guy who did made a profile on here just to do that. And then all the people saying that behaviour is fine. It shows just how downhill the angling world is going.

Probably would of fallen off the radar by now if people didn't make such a big fuss over people that did name it

So would it have been expectable for someone to post in the foreign section
(What was the name of the lake that John fished in his last video)

Again , although he did not name the water , what on earth did he think , or others on here , would happen when a big catch including a 70lb carp from a mega cheap open access water get put out over Europe via YouTube . Yes it makes him feel better not naming it , but carp anglers will be carp angler etiquette or not . I'm not even sure it will increase the pressure on the lake that much in the end , as I researched it a long while ago , as part of looking around areas where you should have back up waters to move to should things go wrong or get too busy , so it's a fair distance and foolish just to travel for that lake .
The big question really is should it be moderated / deleted on here , applying the etiquette of John and his wishes to posts made on a carp post ?

Expectable? Do you mean acceptable? It's one thing naming it from your own trip or whatever, but when the guy made a point of keeping schtum, and his reasoning then no it's not acceptable,it's a ****ty move. It's not carp anglers ettiquet that's going to pot, it modern carp anglers. The sort that talk in wraps, spod out munga, and "run" rods.

lol he did commercial video, put it online and that is the end of story... putting name of lake in video or not, same thing... but this lake is not unknown especially not after korda video which just shows that them not naming the lake didnt help at all it exposed the lake totally so why on earth would you/him think his video will not do the same??

What part of keeping things 'schtum' involves producing a video to promote yourself and your sponsors bait and putting it on Youtube?
If anything is taking carp angling to pot it's people using it to try and turn a few quid. That may be whoring yourself out for free tackle and bait, promoting your own products or just begging for views and likes on social media.

Odd arguments in this thread:
1. It's ok to name a venue because someone made a video there (and didn't name it)
2. It's ok to name a venue because i don't fish there any more.
As mentioned it comes down to respect. It may or may not be difficult to find out what lake it is but show the anglers who fish it the respect of not naming it. If people really want to know they can do the research and find out themselves.

He didnt keep schtum though did he. He didnt have to mention any names like Nick Helleur or Korda, or name any of the fish that was in there. He could have just said it's a public water in France, but after reeling off the information he essentially named the lake, so if you want to carry on down the etiquette route, maybe the issue should be with the video and not someone on here naming it, because let's be honest, without the video there is no arguing.

Ah yes, good old carp angling etiquette of years gone by; illegally guesting on lakes, breaking rules, putting out extra rods down the margins, fishing out of bounds areas and into others anglers water.

But it's not though, if I put a video out and fished a large lake in France, then went on to say as an example, that I'm fishing Ellis point, and was after a fish that Spooner had recently caught in a monster carp episode, most people would know where I'm fishing, but because I didnt name it, then it's ok?

But I would guarantee alot of anglers would know exactly what lake it was, without me actually naming it. This is EXACTLY the same but on a lesser scale.
So going back to my original point, if I wanted to keep it hush hush, if I didnt mention Ellis point, or the Korda video, it would be a hell of alot harder for people to know where I'm fishing

No it's not.
So all of you, if you had a piece on info you decided to keep quiet, then someone else took it upon themselves to decide to disclose it anyway, you'd all be fine with that? Because if so, you really do need to have a word with yourselves

What makes one persons decision not to name somewhere for whatever reason the basis of prohibiting any one else from naming / talking about it?
Is one persons decision enough to overrule everyone else's?
It's a public water, PUBLIC
Ps maybe those that think they have more entitlement than others should take a look at themselves rather than those that just get on with life

If I had a water I wanted to keep quiet I wouldn't drive there, video myself fishing there then release it on the internet to plug my sponsors bait company.
I don't understand where you are struggling with this one?

Well the bloke who named it after jt decided not to is the one showing the entitlement, and you lot are defending that. So that makes you as bad.

Is this the same etiquette as Tel had when put a video out on the Blue Lagoon and named it, and the same etiquette as Dave Lane has when he puts a video out and names Kingsmead, or more recently Yateley??

Nonsense. People asked, someone answered
As bad? Well, as it's not a bad thing to be sharing information about a public water on a forum for sharing information that has both a uk and foreign venues section, then that's not bad at all.

truth is you aint gonna get hoards of people going to that place in a million years !!
the reason is its a tiny few that would actually go there as you cant rock up with a motor stuffed full of larger that 90% of UK people think is the way forward
they aint gonna be happy just turning up to day fish ??
its only a very small % of people that would even consider a public lake with zero facilities and no night fishing
the folk that are liable to fish it already know about it be honest ?

I watched this after all the talk on here.
Am I the only person who found it boring? I've never heard of this guy before so maybe you have to watch his other stuff. His session looked insane and obviously a good angler, but the whole video is just "here's a fish I caught, oh, here's another one, *shot of rods clattering around* here's a fish i caught"

I'll agree JT's videos that I have seen always strike me as pretty chaotic, usually there has been a bit of drama with something not going to plan, a little rule bending here and there on occasion a big bit of rule bending which in my opinion only is when he looks like a rabbit in the headlights, but he obviously puts in plenty of effort and catches his fair share.
So long as he is enjoying himself aye.

With the greatest respect to John, who I rate as a grafter, this type of scenario isn't what he is really good at. Dropping in at a going swim and winching them in is something anyone can do. Fishing a bank of rods, while risking losing all his tackle to the Rozzers, baiting three waters, fishing one during the day and another at night, off a bicycle, 700 miles from home, during a weekend session is what makes him a one in a million character. I sometimes feel he just likes to be up against it for it to be interesting for him. He is starting to mention his increasing age and I hope he keeps fit so we will have more of his cheeky, friendly style for a.few years yet.
