Been looking at the add on rod line clips available.

Has anyone used the Gardner Tackle Sensi Clips (Rod Line Clips) - Any good or not?

The Delkin ones are probably better but much more expensive.

The 0-Rings on the Gardner ones tend to go walkies.

I've tried a few different types and agree with Goose, the Solar ones are by far the best.

Solar ones are fine but can be a pain to get line into when hands are cold and position you use them in is limited by your rod blanks thickness. The Delkim ones are great if you don't need a clip that holds the line tight and fit anywhere on the rod. I use both mentioned and prefer the Delkim. Don't think £15 for a set of 3 is over the top tbh...

Cant say what they're like as I've never used them but Cygnet do some similar to the Solar clips with isotope slots pack of 3 for around 6/7 quid

I've used the cygnet ones for a couple of seasons, they were OK, did what was asked of them and at the price you can't go wrong.

I use the solar ones , they do the job. With the delkims I found the line can catch on them when casting as they protrude a bit.

Do Defiant still do Spiro's? Twist around the blank like a coil and clip line under the end. Brilliant idea!

easy fix...rotate them so clips on opposite side of blank. Ive been using the Fox clip on clips. no sharp edges and grip the line nicely.

I remember those,spiral plastic in any colour you wanted.They are actually identifiers for poultry farms,put on a chickens leg

Yep defiantly the best Rod line clip there is, totally faultless

I actually give them away with Indicator orders FOC, until the bucket full of them runs out that is.


~ The Chicken ones are way to big a diameter for Rods (Unless your using old Beach Casters that is) Off memory they are the Quail ones.

Problem is you have to order in the 100's, many keep asking me to start selling them again.


~ I even have them fitted on some of my highly valuable vintage Split Cane Rods, I would not trust any other line clips on them.

Been using the Solar clips for decades, perfect for me. Never had a issue with them being difficult to get the line under, just slide them down the blank a bit, but I can imagine some blanks being a bit 'inbetween' clip sizes.

There's actually a massive gap in the market here for a proper clip that really grips braid firmly. I use the Solar ones, which are OK, but being as they're plastic, lose grip over time. The best ones are those built on to some of the ESP rods, they seem partially rubber like and don't lose grip over time.
I've tried those spiral ones.. They're OK but again just weaken over time.
Come on Keith, you have an inventive mindset... Maybe something like your bobbins with the ball bearing clips inset on a small black cylinder with a firm rubber outer to attach to the rod?

I've just got a set off eBay, I got them because they're the set that used to be supplied with the Aircurves, they're exactly the same and do the trick as you'd expect. “SET OF 3 UNIVERSAL LINECLIPS, CARP” etc in the search bar, £4.95 for 3

Same never had a problem with them ,use on thin barbel rods to thirteen food distance rods, only exception my heart's as they obviously have them as standard.

I was going to say that the ones I got with my Aircurves are pretty decent being rubber and grip the line very well with no chance of causing damage

I love mine ...so simple and unobtrusive, the line run through them so you can adjust the bobbins
over the last 2 years two have come off, so it might be an idea to buy two packets.

I've got both Solar Strong Arm line clips and Delkim ones, although my current rods have line clips built on them, so I haven't used the Solar or Delkim ones for a few years.

The Delkim ones are very good, a couple of ways to clip the line; through the middle or a twist at the end. The rubbers do perish, BUT, Delkim replaced them for free after contacting them via their website.
I know a few people did have problems with them catching line on the cast. I can only assume they had the clip up the rod well towards the butt ring. I used to have them only just in front of the reel seat.

Solar, they grip the line, basic, but good, they work.

I looked at the Delkim ones, but I don't want the line free running for what I do tbh. Clever design though. I guess the 'wings' are plastic. The fact that it requires 'banding' does disturb me.
The Solar ones, yes, what I use. Good, but not perfect. I use braid and quivers, and sometimes the tension will pull the line out of the clip. I still think the perfect design has yet to be made, but I would say that what might suit braid may not suit mono as there is the chance of damaging it if it is rammed into a tight clip.

I use delkim clips and solar ones.
As already said what suits a thin braid may not suit a thick braid and or thin and thick mono and also depends on how you are fishing IE with tension or slack.

Bit like different rods for different situations.

I use Solar ones but I put a bit of 3mm silicon tube on them to reduce the possibility of line damage.
