As the title says, just wondered how you record information on a venue you're fishing. Stuff like swims, identified spots, how many wraps out, baits used, times, catches etc.
Is there a decent App that can do this or do you use word/excel on your mobile phone or good old fashion Quill and parchment paper.
I'm generally really Carp with this sort of thing on phones so any help would be extremely helpful.

Likewise, all stored in the old grey matter. Can't remember anything else in my life (birthdays, dentists or hospital appointments, what I need from the supermarket, etc) but have an excellent memory for fishing info.

Is it because you fish the same venue all the time or are you able to remember for numerous venues? I used to note everything down in a small book I carried with me but thinking of just storing it on my phone but not sure of the easiest most convenient way of doing it.

I have a good old fashioned notebook and pencil.
After my dad died I found his old notebooks. And sat for a night reading through them with a decent bottle of red as I found some of the dates and venues where I could remember being there. A mobile app just wouldn't be the same

You're absolutely right mate. I had similar in my barrow bag which listed a good 5 or 6 years of what I regarded vital information from a couple of venues I was fishing at the time. Unfortunately it when when I had everything stolen from my garage. I just thought I might try and be a bit more up to date with the technology but it's probably just as easy to use the old book again.

Putting it onto the documents on my phone just doesn't seem as satisfying

Multiple venues. If I look at old photos from the late 80's, I can say with 100% confidence what swim and approximately what time I caught the fish. Weird because like I say, otherwise my memory is crap!!

I'm the same, although my fishing doesnt quite stretch to the 80's. I dont think it's that uncommon to remember lots about a session, dont forget you are in a swim for hours upon end, certainly distance, features and bait are the normal things for me to remember, even 20+ years ago, and more so if you walk into a swim you've fished before, things start flooding back, well, it does for me anyway

Mainly from memory but I always use the notes on my phone. Each swim gets a photo taken and marked up for what to aim at and where to stand to cast. Plenty of notes typed below it.
Most of the time it's done from memory but having the photo and notes as a backup is always a good idea.

I'm with you on this. Like others have said, I can remember most things, like time of day, rig I was using, roughly where I was fishing even from 20 plus years ago. But this was all before the use of distance sticks etc. When you note it down in your phone, where do you log it. Do you use something like word or Adobe. I'm truly crap with phones so debating whether to use my phone or just go back to good old fashion pen and paper.

If you don't like phones just write it in a note book.

The thing is, if you do forget things, how do you know you have forgotten!

See here
Fox Swim Mapper
Interface is good, albeit limited by the 'width' of the photo your phone can create for the swim in question (you could 'knit' images together or insert a widescreen variant) Placing markers in your swim can also be a bit clunky / annoying but with patience doable.
Used to be limited to 5x 'swim' credit with in app purchases for more so I didn't really bother with it (always historically used manual notes) however its now free and if you register you can log unlimited swims and share them (if you wanted to!) Think I might be giving this more of a go in future as its a nice 'visual' aid as much as anything else . . .
Nice one Fox - a freebie at last

Simple Excel spreadsheet. I have recorded all my Wasing sessions on the same spreasdsheet since 2008, giving me a simple reference document to note when, where, weather conditions etc etc.

I use notes on my iphone as you can quickly insert a picture and it's relatively basic and simple.
Android must have an equivalent?

Never remembered one of my pub chucks they all sound the same, so long as I hear a splash in the dark I know I'm in the pond.
In today's world of technology it's as if the old pen and paper never exists.

I fished Taverham Mills and Earith Virginia Lakes, although I drew maps of the venues, I can still remember the lakes very well.
I wrote a complete breakdown of Taverham swims from the meadow all the way round some 10 years after for another forum.

A bit old fashioned but note pad and pen, every swim has page with the tree line sketched (badly!) and distances marked.

Little notebook, always used one for recipe ideas(I was a chef) and carried one in my back pocket of my jeans incase I thought of something while out and about my fishing one is slightly bigger though
I use fox swim mapper. I know it can be a little clunky but for what I need it for and to record info it is great, and I love the visual aid when trying to find previous spots, rather than just 'tall tree on skyline' 🤣🤣

Google Earth is such a vital tool in this. I take a screen shot and blow it up so it fills a whole A4 piece of paper. Because of the dark green colours, I get a vivid silver or gold gel pen and stick the swim numbers on the piece of paper.
If I want to go one step further, I use the measurement tool on google earth and give approx measurements to where drop offs and plateaus are, or prominent weed beds.
Any other data is stored on the notes section of my phone.
As long as you're not fishing a mud puddle, you can see a lot if/when the aerial photo is taken during the summer on a bright sunny day. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case.

Fox Swim Mapper App is good for swims, spots and locations. I also use a small leather bound notes book which stays in my bag. Keep notes on weather, moon, spots, bait, rigs etc.

I kept a notebook when I was a teenager, then transferred that to Excel at some point. Nowadays, I still maintain a spreadsheet, just adding a new sheet for each year. I record date, venue, weight and bait. I use a simple formula to data match and add in the moon phase to each sheet - as that's proven to have a bearing on things when I started to analyse the data. When I am on the bank, I just record the catches on my iPhone's notes App - transferring the data manually to Excel at a later date. No way could you remember every weight of every fish, well I can't anyway. A few weeks back I had 23 fish from a club lake in day session, weights from mid doubles up to 28. If I hadn't put them into the phone, I'd struggle to tell anyone how many or how big by the time I got home. I don't record singles and if I estimate a weight of a double (no point weighing them really), I just annotate the weight with a E in my notes. As to everything else, it's watercraft and my brain still works, so need to makes notes (yet).

I use the app "my shift planner" basically a Calander that you can create your own special purpose shifts, so I have specific colours for days I blank, Days I caught and you can do a write up in that particular day, its not a fishing app but as a calander notebook its worth a try.
