Why bother!? All it does is attract dickhead comments which results in arguing. I see it every day and wonder why people do this.

Much prefer to keep it private on my own feed and not public.

There's some real neg heads out there in the carp angling world, almost on the same level as abusing footballers based on their race

Why is this?

Equally as bad is naming venues or having a specific "urban" background which ruins the fishing for others when it is ultimately recognised by the chancers.

Got to keep the sponsors happy...

Unless you're a field tester, consultant, or hoping to become sponsored, there's no point in posting on social media. The negativity from some people just isn't worth it.

Just enjoy your fishing and make good memories. To hell with all the neg heads

Social media = keyboard warriors

It's the difference between typing things in cyber space or saying things to peoples faces and getting their teeth knocked out, the later does not happen much, it's a shame really

The cyber generation

The sad thing is that this is what carp fishing has become, a peaceful pastime to where every cock end in the country is trying to be famous from it, usually at the expense of others, boring *******s

That's the way forward for me, it's would soon level off all this bollox

People would be fishing because they love fishing, not to try and get a £1 off a kg of bait or a free packet of hooks

I'm saddened to say that this is very much a carp thing in my experience, although the pike anglers can be a bit strange as well.

I post loads of pics of fish, I'm fortunate to be able to travel the world fishing, ( well I used to ) and have a vested interest in people booking trips.

I can honestly say I have never received a negative comment in thousands of comments. I don't catch many carp nut something inside tells me that I probably wouldn't share them if I did.

My club water has a no publicty rule..... My syndi has a dedicated FB page and its as much for the chap running it to keep a tab on new /old fish progress as it is for the members to have bragging rights... In the two seasons ive been on there I have yet to see a negative post.. 👍 No one has an ego in need of a boost. From fly caught rudd, to pike, to any carp caught.. Theyre all welcome 😉

I only joined Facebook this year since I started selling a bit. It's certainly been interesting. I have to admit up until this year I think I must have wandered the world with blinkers on. I had no idea that there were so many absolutely prize Hamptons in the world. Some of the comments I've got from complete clowns have left me speechless. It's made me realise how many damaged people there are in our pastime. Its an absolute pleasure to get a message from a normal person these days. No wonder so many well known anglers just don't bother with it. Can you imagine Terry Hearn putting up a picture of a 50 and getting streams of comments that he needs to cut his hair bruv or mate that's not a 50 and you need to learn how to weigh them etc etc from some coke head who started fishing last year and knows everything.

I've said before there is a sub species evolving, we're now into the third and fourth generation's, the people you talk about are sending their kids to school aged five and six that only know how to crap on the floor, God help us. Twenty something parents that cant read or write correctly but can sign up to Sky TV and live within the confines of FB, carping is a tick in their box in this brave new world of theirs.

Similar for me. My syndicate pages are all positive, catch reports, updates and a bit of friendly banter that has never got out of hand. My club does attract a different kind of person though and there is a bit more negativity on there but the guys running it do a great job of trying to clamp down on it. I only use FB for fishing and I am lucky that most of the group's I am on do not get the negative or abusive comments I often hear about. FB can be positive though, I was struggling last autumn wth work and general stresses of life at the time and then had a session at my syndicate cancelled as Wales was out into another lockdown so I couldn't travel. That is when I found the club lake so went down there and caught a lovely old mid 20 and I posted that on my timeline (very rare I post) and I got a lot of very positive comments from friends (many of which I only know via FB, some I do know from fishing) and this really did give me a boost that was very much needed. So yes, a load of 🔔ends use it for abuse, but there are also plenty of positive uses of the platform

Yep , bang on
Carping is sadly a far cry from what it used to be , I've taken to hanging the rods up now in this country as it's either too rammed or have idiots either side of you on some cesspit unless you have of course a lovely syndicate to retreat to .
I've never published any of my foreign fish , some from lovely big French waters far from the usual camping drinking brigade , as I feel that it would only provoke jealousy and hatred but sadly that is the world of carp fishing as it is today

I never agree with people who say this. There are hundreds of quiet lakes and rivers in the UK. Many on a day ticket. Forgotten lakes, ones with mystery stock. Sure british carp fishing is awful if you follow the crowds to those cess pits, but there is plenty of fishing away from the circus left.

Agree. Listening to most guys on here you'd think decent carp angling just doesn't exists any more, and that the youth of today are all *rseholes. It's not the case. There are waters out there that are still nice to fish if you can be bothered to find them, and the young anglers I know are all as keen and respectful as any I've known for the past 25 years.
Yes some day tickets can attract a dodgy crowd. They always have imo. Just avoid them.

As for negativity over pics on social media, I think that's just FB. I see beautiful images every day (not just captures) on Instagram with no negativity whatsoever.

Exactly mate👍

The only place I see anything like the negativity I see on FB is on here. It's ironic really. Guys so in love with carp fishing that they visit a carp forum daily, then spend that time having a pop at "modern carp fishing", young anglers, sponsored anglers, carp tackle, carp films, carp waters... basically anything they can think of related to carp that they can have a pop at

Opinions are good, that's what a forum is for. Being a **** is not

Couldn't agree more Yonny. Take the time to find a good lake with nice fish, give social media a wide berth, take the nonsense you read on a fishing forum with a pinch of salt...

Then carp fishing is just as good as it's always been.

The thing is, social media does have an effect on angling around you. You can never step foot on social media and still have its influences impacting your angling. My local pond come renewal time was littered with kids armed with 6ft dwarfs (biggest oxymoron ever) and a staffy. I counted 8 of them the first weekend on a pond barely an acre in size. The local mumsnet tribe has been moaning about the increase in birds getting catapulted at or dogs chasing the geese into the pond.

Mumsnet are also talking about this gang all dressed the in the same green tracksuits, laying about the pond wearing polaroids, muttering **** about "barrel bomb business" and getting "half a wrap", so they're getting nervous about a potential crime epidemic.

Anyway, Had a walk around it yesterday and normal service has resumed. Completely empty apart from an old boy using float big enough to trot a whole Mackerel for Tuna in the Ocean. Much less of an eyesore

Hell yee. We can't deny the enormous impact of social media, especially nowadays. Everybody is online; everybody wants to become famous; everybody wants to feel part of a community. I believe in the power of communities. I have one on my Instagram account. There I share beautiful pictures with my fish. Now, I have almost 20k followers. I thought one year ago that it would be a great idea to buy instagram followers. Why not? Everybody is doing that. I hope in the future to make money on it.

I never experienced fishing the "glorious" 70s or 80s. But it always sounds awful to me. Very clicky, people going out their way to not help other people out. I've never liked the sound of the eliteism in groups such as the BCSG.

We read stories written by people who were within the click, so of course they make it sound great, but id imagine as an outsider or a keen youngser was far worse than it is today.

Theres a difference between trying to protect your sport and just being an arse.

I would disagree with that I was lucky enough to get into the BCSG about 20 years ago and I have met some amazing people and anglers. I don't think it has ever been elitist . It's just most experienced anglers can't be bothered to fill the form out or join and have the interview. It also produces the best magazine in carp fishing and any member can put pen to paper.
I also met some great anglers on the bank in the 80s that were only to happy to help a youngster starting out.

I think a problem with social media these days is far to many anglers are overexposing themselves.... Nothing turns me off/become indifferent to (talking Insta here) Someone who is constantly putting up shots of all and sundry every other day.... Mainly sponsored types ,which i get, but i just scroll over them asap or delete altogether ...Not knocking these blokes and using as an example Jules Cundiff has over five and half Thousand pics up (had to delete sorry J if your reading this.),Dave Levy was up every moment,Shelly is forever putting up Scaley F'ers from the Woolpack, now Bartroop is on there i'm sure all of his shots of same fish will follow suit.(Bit jealous tbh..!!) but you get my drift...Less is Most defiantly more....At least Oli Davis has a nice scenic every now and again.... The whole pic thing has become very stale imho and i'm drifting away from/no longer motivated by carping altogether after countless years....

Sorry for the rant, just getting old...

Regards Tad.

Have to agree, I unfollowed pretty much everyone who solely posts capture shots.
When I catch a nice fish and want a photo it's exciting... constantly looking at what someone else has caught... not so much...

I quite like Dave Lane on insta, posts are quite varied...

The best platform you can use today for posting photos is Instagram. It has become more popular than Facebook or Twitter, with more than thirty million users. Also, you can use Instagram not only as your main social account but also for business. I have an online store, and I use Instagram to promote it. I make different posts every day using the https://megafamous.com/ig-line-break-bio-caption-spacing-app tool for spacing out Instagram captions and also, and I invest a lot of money into advertising. I bought about three thousand followers and liked it for my account.

I am only on Facebook as far too old for the others, and what stuns me is the names with doubles and twenties with accurate weights and preaching fish care, the best fish care is unhooking in the water and releasing, not dragging every poor 13lber up on the bank. I am not disrespecting any size but does it really matter? I get fish from tricky venues, lookers but the names with 15.04 common, one of 14 today is in my opinion ridiculous. Give me a shot of the lake, tell me you had a few, but don't put your woolly hat on and show me some poor little fish in blistering conditions.

Even with friends on a syndicate if I want a photo, I will do it before weighing and they ask why - because it's a nice fish, a good looker and when / if I weigh it on the way back does it actually matter?

If I post a picture I would never include a weight (my syndicate page is different) as much as I like my friends 29.15 or 30.02 what do they care? They see a lovely fish.

I post a few capture pics now and again nothing like I used to more so because I cannot be bothered as much anymore.

I will document a few in a little over a weeks time as I'm fishing a friends lake in France for the first time, he has had it a few years now and it is mostly his European kinsmen visiting, as it is basically not really known about much over here I'll pop a few on here if were lucky enough to catch some its only a shortish drive from Calais of two and a half hours.

The fish look like something out of a UK Estate lake.

For me this thread is relevant to FB. FB brings out the worst in people. So much toxicity, so many ****s. Most of them would be nice as pie if you met them on the bank. It's a very sad state of affairs.

BUT...... Instagram is different imo. I share images on Insta and check it almost every day to see wonderful images from others. It's a fantastic platform imo. Can't recall seeing one single row or insult on there tbh (but I tend to follow individuals rather than the group accounts where the toxicity seems to manifest).

Well back at work this morning following a week at my friends newish lake in France he's had it since 2018 but was due to open March 2020 after stocking and feeding program as you can imagine he lost most of that years bookings and we were going June 2021 which turned into June 2022 because of covid restrictions, he also had to do some works to the track and swims remove tons of bramble bushes and trees etc...

Five of us fished as a group from the UK as one lad caught covid the week before and never made the trip he was supposed to fish with his mate who hasn't had a lot of experience at fishing from boats etc..so my mate fished with him in swim one which also meant they had all of swim two's water as the other pairing opted for swim four the other end of the lake which meant I had swim three near the facilities in the middle with about ten acres of water to investigate, on arrival my mate Kris greeted us as he had just done a week with his buddy from Belgium he said it had been fishing very difficult with the fish seeming hard on the naturals they had done a couple of fish all week, we all managed to catch although not fishing well still for our week I managed five with one of the pairs in swim four managing nine or ten between them and the boys in swim one managed five between them, it was fish on the bank so all were happy.

The carp in the main are German/Croatian crosses and very young stocked in winter of 2018 at around 6 to 8lb I believe these are mostly averaging anywhere between 30 to 40lb one or two have done better than that, they have been successful at breeding in the lake with plenty of 20lb C4's and doubles at C2/C3's he also stocked some French fish from a local fish farm at between 30 to mid 50's the one common was caught in 2020 at 35lb then again 2021 at 50lb and so far this year hasn't been out they are piling on the weight.

Facilities are serviceable for a drive and survive with toilet/shower/social area all running on a 3000w solar system which was also charging our 12 volt 110ah boat batteries phones etc.. the social area is basically a covered outside space so is never going to be spic and span as its the outdoors under a covered roof space with BBQ and fridge freezer, the cost reflects this at 1600 euros for a complete lake booking which will accommodate eight anglers on four swims fishing in pairs, Ideally I would say six anglers fishing as we did would be perfect with all swims then getting a good eight to ten acres to play with, there are crayfish but I think they are getting smashed by the carp as we didnt really get bothered the odd hookbait nibbled but still came back in after 20 odd hours with most not being touched.

Edit: If anyone wants the details I can PM you the website it was a 2.30 hour drive from Calais, some will probably know the area from the picture of the building the other side of Kris's lake.

What really is grinding my gears of late is the social media ‘stars' posting every last poor little fish.

I like and understand big fish, personal milestones, lookers but I won't name the worst offender but do we really need to see every 13lb common with a sponsors name on the hat? If that good fish care, especially in the recent heat?

Once you've caught a few, I believe you, if you say you've had 6 doubles, 3 twenties - well done. Unhook them in the net if possible (barbless waters it's a dream) lift it up, have a look and the best fish care is about understanding the stress of net to mat-mat to sling hoist up on scales, hold up and photo - sling then home!

The couple of things of late made me realise how shocking some of these guys are. Firstly I had a good fish and wanted a photo, so gave my phone to another angling and asked for a quick pic - he said weigh it first - I explained that I never do as find it quicker and easier to unhook - photo - in sling weigh and home. Digital pictures are free, not like the old days, plus if it weighed 29 or 32 there would be no difference the actual outcome.

The Sunday I had a fish that I thought was around 18-19lb the owner had netted it for me - when I bent down, slipped out the hook and let it go he said - what? You've just let a mid twenty go I reckon - it may have been but I loved the experience just as much as if I had a slimey t shirt and drying out carp.

Sizes, and captures are different for all, but I am talking about anglers who really should know bettt that putting every last scamp through the ringer.

I totally understand where you are coming from, although in my case I don't photograph every fish, even though I will weigh it.

At Nazeing I caught a 28lb common, Friday the 13th of all days after an absolute nightmare of a day at work. I had a mate do a series of pics, happy days. Later I had a 23lb common, weighed and returned unphotographed.

I don't need pics of every fish, even if I weigh it.

That's fair enough - I'm talking social monsters who post every darn fish, I just don't get it, scenic shot of the lake and good day, a few doubles, means more to me thay some 12lb er that's out in 90 degree heat to convince us to use green split shot and size 6 fangs....

One word, desperate

Posted a while ago, my mate was fishing a water and a lad came running round to him, can you take me a picture, it's only a 12lber but I'm sponsored by x bait company and I need a picture, my mate said, **** off, being a genuine kid he would have helped him out no bother

It really is a sad state of affairs and I question why a lot of people are really in the pastime, the image?

The only good news, there is always some secondhand tackle for sale.

I fished a chain of pits in Kent some time ago, enyway our future super hero stooped so low in his pursuit of greatness it was cringworthy, he had his merry followers cheap bait and a t shirt, stroke puller , he turned up Friday night regular and wanted to double up with enybody in a good swim, lucky enough I wouldn't be seen dead on such lakes now, lm lucky

I don't get the need to weigh and/or photo every fish. I will just guestimate a rough weight of most, and photo a particularly nice looking one ,or my first fish from a new venue. I get when your a newish carp angler weight might make a difference to you, but when youve had enough fish of a certain size you can guess what it weighs to within a reasonable amount. Exceptions may be for keeping track of how stockies are doing
