His Cypography interview is superb. Utmost respect for the guy. Could've easily stayed at Korda, risk- free on a sure thing after years of hard graft cementing himself in the industry. Instead, decides to take on a huge challenge in his later years and go it alone. Massive respect for someone like this. Love his passion and desire to succeed and the way he has maintained a good relationship with Danny and Korda since breaking away. Could've quite easily gone the other way if it was handled differently.
I'm keen to see what he and his new company produces and what extra innovation it brings to the carp scene. It'll have to be top quality products at competitive prices although I think he'll do well. Or at least I hope he does well. I like the community angle by opening things up to those with creative minds and just his general vibe.
Never met the guy, but comes across well and hope it all works out for him. I'm confident it will with his commitment.
Routing for you Ali

Yep, the interview made him come across very well, im very interested to see what he actually has planned for an already over saturated market.
I still hate Rob Huges though.

I'm not a fan of his on screen persona. However he is good at what he does and is a shrewd and determined businessman. I hope his company can come up with some new and top notch items. He said he doesn't just want to churn out copies of what's already out there in the market. I really wish him well. It will be interesting to see what develops on the Television front too.

Going to be very interested to see what is left to create for the Carp market, All been done to death for me, But that's probably why he's a top marketer and business person and i'm not
I thought he came across well, always liked him. The interview was quite vague though with no real insight (understandably he wants to keep things under his hat)
When I first heard about this I thought there was no space in the market for him and he would struggle, but knowing his backers, I think he is much more likely to have some success. I do worry that the market is very overloaded already though.

Is there honestly that much left that hasn't yet been designed for the carp/coarse market.....
Can only reinvent the wheel so many times....
Time will tell.
Many companies have, and still are, doing very well, copying other companies products or improving stuff that was released early for the paying public to 'field test it for them' then bring out a Mark 2 later on, made properly

Most orgs would just carry on as normal. And especially in this scenario where Ali is going off to do his own thing in the same industry. All it would do is give him more advertising, raise more awareness to his new brand and add to the PR like this Carpology interview was aimed to do.

What do people make of Tom Dove being made a director 2 weeks ago, just days after Ali left? I thought that was odd. Maybe trying to ensure he didn't do the same thing? Bit of a kick in the balls to ali if that's the case.

Well if the other rumours are true that the real reason Ali left was due to a fall out because Danny and Damian wouldn't give him a Directorship then giving Tom the same is a proper two fingers....
To be honest there's only 2 reasons that you would leave a job like that if you are Ali Hamidi.....ambition or greed..

The timing is somewhat interesting. Definitely has something to do with recent news re: Ali. He likely warrants it being head of PD and must have brought a lot to the table to get a directorship.
Can you see anyone leaving (not necessarily Korda) to join Ali?

I think that he wanted equity in the business rather than “just” a title.
Good luck to him but I'm not sure that he will make as much as he did at Korda and it will be a lot more work than being paid to make tv shows all over the world!

Ali is very close with Tom Dove. Imo that's why he got the directorship - to stop him joining Ali.
But if they'd made Ali a director in the first place he'd likely have not left.
Good luck to all of them anyway.

you can also have Non Director share holdings

I mean that the setup specific to Korda requires a set number of directors. It's quite common for businesses of a certain size to maintain a set number of directors, not to comply with any external regulation, but for their own business reasons.

Being a director doesn't mean jot, more for business reasons rather than actual ownership.
I know one bloke who is a "director" of a Match Fishing Company. Never cast a float or held a pole in his life nor works within their offices. There must be some form of money reasoning behind it, and that's what this all boils down to. Pound notes.

My personal opinion is that his ego is huge and this is the only way to keep up with it. He comes across like he is the reason for much of Korda's success. I am not sure there is room for another tackle brand and the products will have to extremely innovative for them to succeed.

In the interview hes very open that everything he makes, whatever is is, will be made in china. So he really is just making the same as everyone else.
If youre making the same as everyone else you could at least seperate yourself ethically. Or make everything in the UK.
Id bet if you can bring out a range of eco friendly terminal tackle, or just use much less plastic, there would be a market for it. Not right now, but i think in the next few years attitudes will change and people will want eco friendly and British made.

"Innovative" these days seems to be creating a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Innovation is also creating an alternative to a product that works perfectly fine, but you choose to add one more aspect which does not improve the original idea in the slightest.
That's Korda and a few others in a nutshell.
Aside from the Spomb, we have not seen anything new of any relevance. So that's what.... 15 years of stagnation?
I guess you could argue retractable rods have made an impact, but i've only ever seen them used on local park lakes and ponds. Fashion over Functionality.

I agree though, there has and will be very little innovation. It's over implicated as it is, what other angling discipline ‘requires' so much paraphernalia and home comfort?

Yeah, but can a rowing boat be sent out wirelessly via GPS to the exact spot that Hendrix has been caught from 7 times on a Turbo Ronnie German Reichstag rig (camo) with a Fluro Pink ball of Semolina (non camo) all researched after hours of casting a Sonar, one which could detect a Jap two miles down the Pacific Ocean?
Absolutely not. Therefore sir, you can stick your bright yellow Decthlon Kayak up your Samantha Janus.
Sod it, stick a drone up whilst your at it. Mine can destroy a wedding party in Iraq from 500m up with a payload of 500g cluster munitions in the form of air dried Nash Key Cray Cray.
(Meanwhile, the vast majority of other species records that I would sell my kids to catch are readily caught on double maggot on a size 14 trotted down a river, something I suspect most kids these days don't have a clue how to acheive)

If anyone is unsure how fickle these Carping names are now look no further than Mr Hamidi at the moment.
The resignation details all over social media were cringeworthy, I almost thought Boris Johnson was going to call a national day of mourning........the way he was bleating on it was like someone had died.....he left his employer for a new venture, big bloody wow....
And now he's posting clips using Fox gear and saying how fantastic it is after years of nothing but Korda, Trakker, Daiwa and Delkim being the best of the best.....
Lets have it right, most "name" anglers will change their backers at the drop of a hat if they are going to get a bit extra, there's some that have had more sponsors/partners than I've had hot dinners......but the sheep will always follow.

I think it's his mate Zamora who is sponsored by fox so he was probably the conduit to Ali getting the free fox stuff.

Weird. I'm sure this is an argument that's been had on here a thousand times. But he's paid to use / promote certain brands, so that's what he does. Nobody ever calls it fickle when F1 drivers change teams or tennis players use a different make of racquet. I don't understand why you think it's fickle. It's literally his job to promote tackle so that's what he does.
Please don't take this personally, as I don't mean it to offend, but the only reason I can think of for you to bemoan him is that you are subconsciously jealous of the position he is in?

jealous....not in the slightest mate.... I can fish for Carp just like Ali Hamidi and use the same gear he does, absolutely nothing to be jealous of....apart from he gets it for free of course!
And your comparison to F1 drivers or Tennis players is deeply flawed, yes they drive for a team or use a certain racquet but it is their image that promotes the brand, they are not expected to preach to their audience how wonderful the products are. "Name" Carp Anglers will tell you that one brand is the best since sliced bread one week then say exactly the same the next for the brand that has paid them few quid more.....that is fickle in my opinion.

I say a big fair play to the lad, firstly he's a RED so I can never dislike him ,but also he's got himself into a position in a specific field where he sees a business opportunity and makes a break for it ,surly that's common day practice in all industry ,the ones who take the risks are the ones who can (not always) make a brand a success and I'm sure Ali can and will ,as for China ,isn't most of it now made over there or places similar ,business is business ....and lest be honest if your employed most of us think our boss is a cnut...so why not be your own boss ....

For the risk of being banned I will keep it clean.
I wonder if the top job was ever in discussion?

Think it's been well rumoured that he wanted a Directorship and Shares but was told no...

Top job? No chance.
It's God, then if he decides to pack it in, then it goes to Jesus, then his deputy if you check companies house is someone called “the Holy Ghost”, which is a bit vague, can't find out what he does really.
So I'd say Ali was probably better off going it alone as I think he will be waiting a long time to get that gig. Seems like they like to keep the power in the family.

You say that but literally days after Hamidi resigns they make Tom Dove a Director.....now that's either to retain him and stop him going with Hamidi or it's a massive two fingers salute!

One massive Ego is more than enough on any board of directors!!

I'd say the former rather than the latter, In my experience the latter very rarely happens in business (i speak from personal experience).
It's all about the money, AH has gone done and dusted they may or may not of considered him a loss. Stem the flow and make Dove a director, it's all about ego's these days. Every man and his dog is a director these days, no place on the board, no shares no skin in the game, just a name on a business card that really means that person is earning at least 10k pa less than he should be but hey they can tell everyone they're a DIRECTOR lol

Completely agree with the "Director" statement, I am exactly that, my firm dishes out titles that mean sweet FA....
....and having been a "proper" Director in the past it is so embarrassing that I don't refer to myself as anything as such!
Mind you, a competitor firm give their senior sales staff the title of "Vice President"........I kid you not...

I gotta say I feel I'm missing out.
Perhaps I should call myself the head of galactic operations (Milky Way division)
