1 someone selling flavours for a living saying buying old flavours from ebay is pointless isn't exactly a surprise

There great flavours in the 80s seafood blend stunk my kitchen out for weeks and monster crab if there ok and catch why not if there good enough for mr Hearn there good enough for anybody

Got to say, find this thread a tad hypocritical Gerry. You're normally the 1st to say if people want it that's up to them, not looking for a issue, just a general observation over many years like you on the forum.

well as the saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink
it was a post to try and stop people wasting their hard earned cash on stuff thats mostly oxidised and nothing like it was when it was produced and pay ****ing silly prices for it
I have huge respect for John Baker who is one of if not the best bait experts around I know he and Hutchy used to help each other out and when John says something its normally based on solid facts
now its entirely up to you what you spend your money on if you want to pay silly money for **** crack on
oh and he makes very interesting videos too check this one out

I dont believe everyone is buying these flavours to use. I think theres probably people who collect old deadstock flavours for sentimental reason. Why they would pay upwards of £400 pounds for a bottle I dont no. There money there choice I suppose.
Seems to be a few companys springing up selling pop ups made using old deadstock flavours. Why anyone would think something 15- 20 years past it's best is a better catcher of fish than a bait made with fresh ingredients needs to give there head a wobble. Or again is it purely a nostalgic thing. Or a sense of one up man ship on the guy fishing next door that your using something he is more than likely not.
Why do some anglers believe flavours produced back in the day are so much more effective than what's available today. I no that some of the ingredients found in these old flavours are no longer available but did they really make them flavours more effective.

I use a desktop pc but it does have speakers and I just use the volume control but your not the only one my mate watched it on a laptop and said he listened to it with his headphones plugged in as he found it quiet too

I used to use nouvelle fizz and autumn harvest a lot in the nineties as they were doing very well on the north west waters and also caught very well on them for a good number of years.
When i heard the flavours were no longer being made i did buy a couple of each but over time these have deteriorated a couple far worse than others to the point it is very obvious just by the smell, but baits made with these are no longer anywhere near as good as they once were. i would no longer choose them over some other hookbaits i have

Flavours and other liquids deteriorating has always been a problem even if kept in glass bottles.

Maybe instant carpers buy it, carry it with them, casually drop it into a conversation, then pull out an old flavour from their pocket and viola!, the instant carper has become a seasoned old skool carper

Does whiskey deteriorate over time?
Not too much difference to alcohol based flavours, as long as they are stored correctly.
But anything oil-based, or high in meat/fish derivatives (I'm thinking Monster Crab, Compound TF etc) unless frozen from purchase, will have oxidised by now.
Just because someone in the bait industry says something, don't take it as gospel. Consider vested interests. Think for yourselves.
However, the prices are bonkers, utter madness for sure.

Madness what people pay for stuff. All a fad, like gs reels going for over £3000 a set, one day you'll wake up when the market falls on its arse and wonder what an idiot you've been.
On the flip side I still use old flavours, I have over a litre of original ritchworth double strength tutti aswell as squid and octopus koi rearer, my understanding is they had bits go into it which under eu law is now not allowed, I'm still yet to find a better flavour for summer or winter than those 2 and I catch my fair share using them still, and for the record I paid £35 a bottle about 10 years ago, just a secret stash of my own. Maybe i ought to cash in.
Thing with bait, it's a pretty cut throat market. Whilst I respect the opinion of baker, he's not going to encourage the use of it all when he has a range of his own for sale. I use the plum he makes, fantastic flavour, I guess it's up the individual to decide at the end of the day.

People are still catching on the old flavours so they do still work,They may not be as good as they were when bottled but they still work
I'm sure the fish that are being caught on them today won't remember what the originals were like anyway.

I know Gerry, that's one assumption, that people are actually going to use it, but there's also the other way of looking at it, that people are prepared to pay silly money buying old stuff just because they want to buy a piece of Carp Fishings' history.
As you know you see it all the time with Solar gear, people just collecting, no intention of using it, just the kudos of owning it. Not for me but there you go

I was given a couple of pots of pop ups with some old hutchie gear in it

I have some old Nash monster crab that haven't been opened and some old solar ones lol

I wonder if they actually paid that...having said that you won't see another one in a hurry. Perhaps we're all missing out on good investment opportunities, who would have thougth it at the time

But it's a pop-up so is it the visual attraction and nothing to do with the flavour ? Zig foam catches with zero flavour. At £18 a tub for pop/ups they'd have to produce 3x as many fish to be worth while and I just don't see it .

For one of these custom hook bait rollers £430 for 50ml is possibly a worthwhile investment. They can bandy the old bottle all over their marketing, put the flavour in the ingredients list and only need to put a couple of drops in a £10 pot of air balls as nobody will know.
