He seemed like a decent guy tbh, he is well aware that Grenville is not exactly Colnemere. What does it matter? The fish are English so no harm done.

Same Ian.... I thought he came across as a decent bloke, who at this point in time is fishing a water with some giants in. Its not like he's an instant carper either, having already done well on quite a few other waters (Monks, Bundys, Elstow etc etc).

that's right, call a guy out you don't even know and slag off a venue you have never even fished, sounds just about right for the "kids and modern anglers" eh.... 
I have fished Grenville in the past and believe me, it is far from easy. Yes there may be a huge stock in there, (it's a bit less than 1700) but there are large areas over 40ft deep in the 72 acres, that's a hell of a lot of water for any amount of fish. In addition there is a huge abundance of naturals and the rules mean you can only fish certain methods and baits, (owners prerogative).
It's certainly a marmite water for sure and not everyones cup of tea but respect to those that fish it, you pays your money and makes your choice...

You missed out making out they like doing their own thing and staying private and away from the scene when really it was because their big ego was hurt from not getting the big fish from certain waters whilst others did.All the while keeping a fish in a sack all night in a river because they were so desperate for the publicity shots in daylight.Disgusting behaviour that would see you banned on some waters

Anybody would think you weren't all fishing for the same species stocked for sport and wasting precious resources from the ocean feeding them. How many fish is it permissible to stock before it's beneath the big dicks, and I don't mean those with large appendages.
Dress it up however you want, those fish are stocked to catch wether there's 1 or 1700 of them.

Grenville... simply put IMHO if you build it, they will come.
Simply a Long term plan/investment by the owner, all to make something that is nice and will bring a decent Financial return.
Big carp = big money nowadays.

Grenville may have a lot of fish in it but its a big, deep lake where the rules make catching them difficult
Most people could blag a fish or two but to haul on there, fishing well at mega range with smallish leads and fairly small hooks isnt easy
Its like brasenose 1 at linear with half the fish and 3 times the amount of water and you cant use the most successful method
Quite enjoyed the podcast tbh, he comes across as a decent bloke

As for comments on Grenville. “Can't you guys see they deliberately feed those fish to be the biggest in the country and run the lake well so you idiots will pay for the pleasure of angling there”. Sorry... am I missing something?

I suppose that's a matter of interpretation, and I don't suppose you'll be backing down on it, but plenty seem to think you're slagging him off.

I got offered a ticket on there some years ago, i turned it down as my head was all over the place as my eldest son had just been posted to Afghan with the Royal Marines 40 commando and couldn't concentrate on fishing for all the worry his tour was giving me.
After explaining this to the owner, he got grumpy with me and said "what difference does that make to you joining here"
I was a little taken back by that comment and put the phone down

I've met Ian a few times and in real life he's quieter and more modest than he comes across in the podcast. Not that he comes across badly IMO.
Grenville, what a water. Fish stocked as singles now going 60lb+. What a vision the owner had and the gumption to carry it through. Hats off to the guy.

I tend to agree, each to their own and all that.
Grenville doesn't do it for me personally but to other crack on if it does.
Sort of similar to cars, some like them low & slow others like them tall & loud - doesn't mean one is right & the other wrong, all about personal preference

Interesting !! especially comparing Grenville to Holme fen? Same sort of lake in my opinion . But he sounds happy with his angling and that's the most important thing.

Loves fishing, has fished lots of proper waters, is honest about what he paid to fish some of them, and doesn't attack anyone else for what they do. Even admits to using other companies' gear whilst on his employer's podcast.
As for Grenville, he's honest about not wanting to fish a low stock pit for a couple of bites a year. It doesn't sound like my sort of water but it sounds like it has been run “properly” with known breeder fish, stocked at small weights and not put in a small puddle.
I think that there are people on this forum that would attack Chris Yates for being commercial if he went on a podcast

It's really hard to please forum members these days. I only know Ian through a few of his mates and they all speak highly of him. He has caught massive carp from various venues so he's not just a one lake wonder. Cut the lad some slack as there are way more helmets in carp fishing these days who catch way less and puff their chest out much further 🥱. It's Christmas so be nice 😛

I know a bloke that bent the rules to knock out the odd extra 30, he got banned from a water where those 30's are now 50's, basically because there was something wrong/missing in his life, that's all it is, grown men trying to make up deficiencies in other parts of their lives,
Viagra would probably sort a lot of problems on a lot of waters, for the man in question on my water he was about a foot shorter than he wished he was.
